Problem is that central europe govs are experiencing hightened threat levels through terrorism. This is sadly as is as a situation, being instrumentalized (fear) in order to drive the narrative that such actions are needed to prevent said events in the future. Most people are uneducated when it comes to privacy and therefore likely to comply. Sad thing is that we hear very often that the suspects had already been under surveilance of the intelligence service but weren't able to prevent the event from happening anyway. Conclusion: Blame everything bad on Immigrants (some parties) while the people in power erase privacy under the false conclusion that it equals more security for the people and the people will cheer for them... Thank you for your video; it was incredibly informative. It's crucial to understand what the future holds for us as individuals and developers, as well as what to expect and how to navigate potential political dangers. In my opinion, the EU is becoming increasingly less protective of privacy, contrary to what they claim. The direction things are heading could lead to situations reminiscent of the oppressive surveillance seen during WWII in Germany, which poses a significant risk for everyone. It's essential that we stay vigilant and ensure we're not hindered or penalized while working to develop a privacy-focused messaging app. ✌️

Thanks Sam, you're doing GOD's work. It's unfortunate that most of the people seeking anonymity are doing so to commit crimes. Indiscriminately providing anonymity as a service is not a crime, but when someone uses your service to commit crime, that makes you an accomplice unless you explicitly state that the service is not intended to protect criminal activity. Even so, the authorities want the provider to enforce there users and the only way to do so is to spy on them all and report threat actors. The only logical way to move forward is to found a global order, and that entity can either decide to allow or disallow anonymity to settle the matter once and for all. Neither anarchy nor globalism are acceptable. I think the current state of affairs is as good as it ever will be. The only way forward is down, and I'm afraid. We all should be afraid.

That’s the dystopian future we're heading toward. AI-driven surveillance makes encryption feel like a small shield against a massive weapon. It’s why we need to keep pushing for stronger privacy protections before it’s too late. Using encryption adds an additional layer. Your right about no security being bulletproof (if I'm understanding your drift) but at the same time I would point out that just because there is a master burgler doesn't mean that we should all just leave our doors unlocked. I really liked the alternate POV thank you for commenting!

I share your concerns regarding privacy and authoritarianism. However - there is something that you mentioned near the beginning of the video that hints at a key point in this whole debacle - You mentioned that Telegram chats are "semi-private". As I think you're aware, when you get past their horribly misleading marketing, Telegram states on their site that 1 to 1 messaging and group messaging are *not* E2EE. There is only an opt-in encrypted chat and there are *no* provisions for E2EE group chat whatsoever. Most use the defaults, falsely believing their chats are fully "private". This is what made Telegram such a juicy target for LE / governments - they know there's incriminating data on Telegram servers that's potentially accessible to them. I also don't think Durov made any friends by launching a campaign to malign & discredit Signal, which was pushed hard on social media and amplified by Musk. To be clear - as much as I think Durov is an asshole, I don't think he deserved to be arrested but by choosing to prioritize a snappy UI over using default E2EE, he dangled a huge carrot in front of the authorities.
