In case anyone missed it, the monitor extender app that goes on the tablet is called SPACEDESK. You install the app on your tablet. And you install a driver on your Windows PC (not Mac or Linux, unfortunately). The tablet and Windows PC have to be in the same LAN (wired network) or WAN (wireless network). The app waits for the PC, and then connects. One addition to the setup... There are Firefox and Chrome extension plugins that allow you to flip your screen. So, if you want to see the Zoom or MS Teams meeting the right way round in the teleprompter screen, you can use the flip function to do that. Thanks for this excellent video!

I have a similar setup. I have HDMI out from ATEM Mini going to a HDMI 2 channel splitter and one channel connecting to an 11 inch Lilliput monitor. This outputs content being recorded in eCamm Live or Zoom to the teleprompter so I can maintain eye contact. I find that using a teleprompter makes for a better overall video production, so many virtual meeting recordings I watch seem like people are not engaging. It is challenging because the person moderating is usually queuing up content or operating a stream deck or some other device to change scenes.

Sounds like a great setup Gary. It can be challenging producing a live show while hosting a show at the same to make the camera cuts as you mentioned. It definitely takes some practice to make it look smooth!

Hi Gary, therefore PPT Mirror tool could meet your demands, I present my videos using Powerpoint slides in a teleprompter, so I mirror-flip the slides with PPT Mirror software (using a bluetooth remote). Helps me record videos keep eye contact with viewer and I always have my whole concept in front of the camera so I don't have to read word for word, which is the good option that levelled up my video quality, especially talking heads.

While this is a great solution, it is also quite a bit more expensive as it needs a separate tablet, tripod, shroud, DSLR camera, and glass... this may not be a problem for a larger business, but really is a burden for smaller business or average user. A better solution might be to build a dark box shroud that fits you monitor with a quality webcam pointing down onto a 45° glass... no extra tablet, much cheaper webcam, no separate tripod, and using mostly existing hardware and software... just saying... with many businesses struggling, it might be very hard to justify the expenditure of several hundred dollars just to achieve "eye contact"... especially when far less expensive and reasonably effective solutions are available with just a little effort.

ATEM is a hardware option and great for connecting multiple cameras to your computer if you'd like. You can also check out SparkoCam which is a software option for connecting your camera directly to your computer via USB port.

I used what is called a PTZ camera. PTZ stands for Pan, Tilt, Zoom and I can preprogram the camera where pan, tilt, zoom to. Then I just click the button associated with the setting and camera automatically move there. It's a pretty slick camera but I'm not totally happy with the video quality of it. It's called a BirdDog P200.

Hi, thanks for a great video. I would appreciate more information and clarification about the flipping of the image so that when it is flipped again by the mirror, one can still read text properly. Is it this space deck application for windows that sends the image to the tablet, that also does the flipping ? I haven't played with the flipping part using Zoom, but there are telepromter applications that allow you to flip the images as you'd like. I don't have any info on building a teleprompter but there are tons of DIY videos on KZbin!

@@Simplebizsupport I do like it. I have a small 'operation' in a startup. I cramped Ham Radio and also now A/V studio. My camera is c100 mk1. Got a refurbished Samsung Tab a7 lite (refurbished $50) with NEEWER Teleprompter (free). And in ZOOM sessions using SpaceDesk (free) as screen to reflect so I see their faces while talking with them. If I get more involved, it is easy to setup/breakdown in its own case! Using a HD SUB cam I got away with eye misdirection. The c100 is unforgiving (which is good), so the x12 and a7 works great!

Hey Chris, not sure which model of Gldegear I have and yes I've run into widen angle lenses catching the edges of the hood. My solution is to push the camera forward as much as possible where the lens in almost touching the glass. Hope this helps!

Glide Gear TMP-100-V1, and it is amazing. Has large, aluminum plates, with lots of holes to mounts things. The hood is a little stiff and it is a trick to keep it out of the way, but it can be done. I have that exact one and really like it. I also commented above that you can get a cheap portable monitor for around $120 that fits perfectly in that teleprompter. Maybe I shouldn't advertise this, because I don't want the supply to be eaten up, but... Instead of using a tablet as the monitor for the teleprompter, I use a cheap 10" portable monitor that has HDMI inputs. You can get them for a little over $100 on Amazon. The one I found fits perfectly in the Glide Gear teleprompter (same one you have). I could not find a good solution for the image reversal you talk about, so I bought a cheap little HDMI splitter device that sends the external monitor HDMI output of my laptop to both a larger second monitor and also to the teleprompter display. (The large monitor and the teleprompter monitor have the exact same image, so use the large monitor to line up the teleprompter.) That way, you can use the big monitor for mousing around and once you have a good setting you can then look at the teleprompter. Having eye contact is great.

I don't know specifically as I didn't test. I have a 7" monitor that I tested but it was too small for me when you get more than a couple people on a call. While there is some latency using the iPad, I didn't find it noticable. If you test out the 10" Lilliput let me know how it works out for you.

Yes that is a great option for having bullet points availible, thank you for sharing. I'm testing out a teleprompter app called PromtSmartPro that has very good voice recognition software so it automatically scrolls as you talk. If you pause, it pauses. I'm tried some other versions of this but found the voice recongnition aspect wasn't very good. It does take some talent to read from a script and sound natural.

A real teleprompter has to allow you to both see the audience and the screen. Normal glass wouldn't let you see the screen bright enough. This glass cost more than normal glas. But on the "Zoomprompter" you do not see through the glas, as it is dark there anyways. So normal glas will do. You might know this if you have a HUD in your car: You have to glue foil on your cars front window to see the HUD at day clearly - but at night it works well even without the foil. So no need at all to buy a teleprompter with it's special glas to make a "Zoompromter". You can build your own by using the cheapest glossy glass you get. This solves some problems: - No need for a tablet, you can use a normal monitor. You are not limited in size. You might even use a 50 inch TV if you have an old window to use as the mirror glass. Of course you need a lot of space and a room large enough to keep a proper distance than... - Most modern graphic drivers allow you to to output the image upside down, rotated or mirrored. So if the "Zoomprompter" is connected as a monitor, you can solve the mirroring problem simply with your Nvidia or AMD driver to flip the image. By the way: the same principle of using a mirror is also used not only for camera+monitor, but also monitor+monitor as a professional 3d setup. Infitec made such monitors years back, with two interference filters (same as "Dolby3d", which was actually licened from Infitec), one in front of each monitor. Extremly priecy, esp. made for CAD on designing cars (Infitec was a daughter company from DaimlerChrysler). If you ever get hands on such an old monitor, you can simply swap one of the monitors to a camera and have the perfect "Zoomprompter".

I haven't tested, but I'm thinking that if you setup dueal display on Zoom, you could make the telepropter screen the gallery view and make your main monitor the speaker view giving you easy access to Zoom controls like share screen. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks for the idea! If you had a projector and a blank wall already, you could fire the projector up at the wall behind your camera which is a thought I just came up with reading your comment. Also, others have mentioned using an old flat screen tv and mounting that on a wall behind the camera for a similiar effect. If you come up with a better solution, please share with the group.

Yes.. and No! It’s the Horizontal flip that is the problem. I’m trying to set this up right now and it’s almost exactly like yours, though I’m doing it for a client to read his ppt and then jump over to his Zoom feed and then back to stats he can use to answer questions etc. Now, the problem is the screen is backwards, so he can’t read. I use similar software (DUET, basically Mac to iPad 2nd screen app and pretty good) Has anyone found a way to H flip the iPad or the Mac feed?

Thank you for this video! I already setup something similar: a newly released small prompter from Ikan for mirrorless cameras. Using my smartphone--which is what it's designed for--works fine, but I decided I wanted to have a more permanent installation with an HDMI connection to a small monitor. I connected a 7" monitor designed to be used on a camera in the field. The monitor, brightness, and connectivity is PERFECT. However, this monitor noticeably washes out the lens inside the full shrouded prompter. I'm not sure why my smartphone did not have this issue, but a purpose-built video monitor does. The other HUGE benefit to the on-camera monitors is that many come with mirroring functionality built in, making it super easy to fix the issue you mentioned of having everything backwards, including mouse direction. I'm not sure if the new monitor is just so much brighter than a smartphone that that causes the problem. I'm about to try adding a circular polarizer to the camera to see if that helps. P.S. I'm using this smaller prompter and smaller screen with a camera only four feet away, shooting on a 35mm f/1.8 full frame Nikon Z6. With the camera being that close, the ability to see what I need to from a small screen is still good.

nice - but WAY to complicated unless you already have a teleprompter. Get an external webcam - smaller is better and a little table tripod; the video quality is better, and you position it where you need it. Yes - it is a bit in the way of the screen but with a big screen - and you need a big screen anyway - you can adjust the position easily. Logitech 1080 cams work great - there is a software that allows you to adjust the camera as well (light, zoom)

Hi, great tutorial. Thanks! I have a question. I was setting this up to shoot some remote interviews. No crew (because of COVID): I have to send in a kit. I was trying out a teleprompter/ipad (on Zoom)/phone shooting at 4k. On the host side we’ll shoot with a full frame dSLR. My problem is that the iPad camera on the teleprompter is pointed up at the ceiling -- so the signal going to the other Zoom is useless. I thought I could attach a webcam - but iPads don’t allow a webcam input. I’m afraid to send a computer to mirror on an iPad because the guest may not be particularly technically inclined, and simplicity is key... quarantines are vexing.

I'm using the iPad as a second monitor on my computer with a separate camera camera and microphone. As another viewer mentioned, you could use a small monitor instead of an iPad also but the key for me is that I'm not using the iPad to host the Zoom meeting, just using it as a monitor.

Far from simple, the solution of a tele-prompter like device is obvious but not simple. Simple would be putting a small Logitech type webcam literally in the middle of your screen by using a small support. That is simple, but you lose some screen area. The trade offs are not bad compared to the complicated tele-prompter.

How hard would it be to DIY a teleprompter with a 24 or 27 inch monitor? That's what I really want.

@@Simplebizsupport @Bendirval : Note that some of the "cheap DIY" videos recommend starting with a picture frame because it gives you the frame and the glass. And this setup will indeed show a reflection, because the space behind the glass is black. But you are likely to run into double reflections which make the image blurry - that's what happened to my (small) cardboard/hot glue experiment. Then I learned that you need to buy "beam splitter" or "teleprompter" glass. That is not exactly cheap (at least here in Germany) and at that point, I stopped to give other parts of my home office setup higher priority.

I thought about the DIY approach a number of years ago ended up buying an inexpensive teleprompter that looks like it was made from picture frames with a short metal rod that propped it open at 45 degrees that I still have.

Ya want simple? I just unhook my webcam from the top of the monitor and let it hang down about 6 inches. Works like a charm.

I tried that too, but I have not found a webcam decent enough. Any webcam small enough to be used like that would certainly have lousy quality. IMO

Yup! The dangle method IS clever. A good stand alone webcam is WAY better than the camera on most computers, but never as good as a DSLR or Mirrorless camera.

I might try that with my GoPro hero seven I have connected via HDMI card. I’m not sure I totally trust the spacedesk software and I do virtual training for my company. Getting it at just the right position without damaging the screen is also important. I’m also trying to work out the best angle. Back to experimenting!

Mid day I need extra lights to balance out the sun coming through the windows. This only works because I have heavy (dark) tint on the windows. Hope this helps!

I'm with Ed. There needs to be some direction on using a teleprompter with, both, ZOOM and MS Teams. For example, the teleprompter camera needs to be selected in the device settings of these applications. Are there other settings to be made in those applications? If you should create another video that instructs as Ed suggests, you will be the very first which could put you into a category of your own, especially if it covers the settings for both ZOOM and MS Teams meetings. I liked this video and was ready to share it until it fell down at the end, just like every other video I have viewed on use of a teleprompter for ZOOM. Thank you.

When you say feedback, I"m assuming you're talking about an audio loop which is caused when the sound from your speakers is loud enough to be picked up by the mic causing feedback. The best solution is the one you're using - wear headphones. Another solution (but not as good) is to turn the volume down on your speakers.

Possibly use the DSLR menu to turn down the audio input on the DSLR's built-in mic.

The idea for using the teleprompter for Zoom specifically is so that you can see the people you're taking to while looking into the camera at the same time. You can also use a teleprompter for podcast or production also.
