I tend to agree, I always wondered why and I talk briefly about it near the end of the video. That's the one logical idea as to why they changed but maybe they just fell out of interest and found a comfort zone that they prefer to operate from. That said, their reputation precedes them.

Technically, that's the X3 Pro but it has some other quirks.
@AXL398Ай бұрын
@@GameTechTalk Apart from the quirks, there's also the form factor. The X3 looks like a beefy X2. A lot of people have described the g8 like a regular Xbox controller but with a space in the middle for the phone. I want that... But with a cooler. XD

As far as iPhone compatibility goes, have you tried the old trick of iOS Settings -> Accessibility -> Switch Control -> Switches -> Bluetooth?
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
Ahahaha, someone knows a cheat code! ;) It got me through so much Apple Arcade in the early days of the service! I did try it, it didn't work sadly. The problem is not so much the iPhone accepting the connection, but rather having drivers/API to support Android HID, which the controller only operate as. Unfortunately, it didn't work. :(

I love 8bitdo, and was kinda excited to see this come out... But am disappointed they didn't use the d-pad they are famous for, also it would have been nice if there were more input methods like you mentioned.
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
Agreed, it's a bit of a mixed bag with this one to be honest. With that said, I like the product nonetheless but I get it that it's not a "no brainer" for anyone like I assume many people would've taken for granted, be it that 8BitDo has an excellent track record.
@justjoshp8581Ай бұрын
when i first saw this product i did want it but after seeing the review i think my opinion has definitely changed. i feel like a 8bitdo controller is cool but i also feel a little late to the market. and if they make more revisions to it my opinion could change as they add more features but i do think it is kind of pricey for what they offer considering you have stuff like the gamersir g8 thats only a little bit more and can fit more devices
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
Fair, I hope they don't take too long for a v2 but I can understand some people wanting to sit it out until there is at least more feature parity with some of the newer options.
@jedstuhrАй бұрын
considering how 90% of 8BitDo's controllers are compatible with the Switch, I feel it was a missed opportunity to not include that feature
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
100%, if anything, that's the biggest missed opportunity. I can forgive the lack of gyro or rumble, though I would've appreciated both but the Switch support would've made this a pretty sweet added purpose!
@muhdzaidi3051Ай бұрын
Thanks for the teardown! Like I said, using ribbon cable is a big no from me...I'm not taking the risk of potentially having a half-dead controller within a few weeks/months. Hopefully for those who are interested, they will add more modes via firmware update like Gamesir did with the X2s bluetooth (it has switch support now). Having touchscreen mapping would help too
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
No freaking way!!! That is AMAZING, I had no knowledge of that being a thing for the X2s BT! I'm looking forward to seeing the software, I think it'll elevate the product overall as 8BitDo does have amazing software overall!

Are there ANY telescopic controllers that you can put your phone into vertically? So I can use for DS emulation/split apps and horizontal for everything else
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
Yes and no. The G8Plus, the BSPs is what you're looking for. However, a phone is too narrow in portrait so you need to have packing foam or something so that the contraption tightens on the phone. With that, you'll get the result you're looking for.
@antonioortega8352Ай бұрын
@GameTechTalk Appreciate the reply! Tried it, not my thing. Have you heard of the FLYDIGI Wee2T? It's a telescopic Bluetooth controller that came out a few years back that offered portrait and landscape use. I just dig the smaller footprint and functionality. If its been done before it can be done again! Check out their telescopic design, it allows for a wide range of devices while being compact in its non stretched state. More moving parts but yeah more companies should look into this design! Thanks for being so comprehensive in your reviews.

In a different video I commented that a "nice" D-Pad for you (Easysmx M05) probably was good for old fighting games, slow paced ones. But not suitable for fast modern fighting games like Dragon Ball Fighterz, KoF XV, SF6 or even Marvel vs Cap 3, where you need to pull combos super fast, and the movements have changed in the past 30 years since Street Fighter 2. I've tested the M05, X2pro, X2s, Galileo G8 and I am still looking for a suitable fighting D-pad in a small telescopic controller. I do get why you gave a good ranking to the M05, but I am trying to tell you that testing these D-pads with a 30 year old game is not a proof of how they will perform with modern games. I hope you can test them with more recent and faster games. All of these controllers do actually work really well for anything else but fighting games. Even a retro handheld like RG35xxH has a way better D-Pad for that purpose (faster fighting games) than all of the ones I have tested so far. Is this 8bitdo telescopic controller D-pad similar to the SN30 pro or the SN30 Pro 2...? (still have the first one, I sold the second one). I do wanna try the SMX M10 Dpad... a huge issue for us that we live in places where all of these controllers are imports... not cheap, not easy and hard to find stores where to get them. I hope you reconsider your testing methodology choosing modern games like Celeste, SF6, KoF XV, Cuphead, Shadow of the NInja Reborn or any modern 2D game that require faster and more precise inputs. Thanks and keep up the good work man... so nice that you were the first one reviewing this, I was waiting for this video.
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
You make a compelling argument. I need to find a solution that I can bring everywhere as sometimes I test on Apple, sometimes on Android, sometimes on a handheld PC. Any title that you have off the top of your head that I can consistently test everywhere? Modern emulators are out of the question. Thanks!
@locomax2082Ай бұрын
@@GameTechTalk Thanks for the reply =) Ok, so looking trough the catalog among the different platforms (Steam, Android, iOS) there are some games I would suggest to test D-Pads. Disclaimer: I do not think these are the "best" games per se (the best fighting game, or GOTY platform, just saying in case somebody thinks I believe KoF is the best fighting game of all time): - King of Fighters 98 (iOS, Android, Steam, Switch) (good for testing hadoken like inputs, Iori's moves need to do this up to 4 times in a combo, so with a faulty D-Pad you can't chain the combo due to bad diagonals) - Marvel vs Capcom 2 or Dragon Ball Fighterz (steam, switch) ... (it gets as crazy as it is) - Celeste (Steam, Switch) (on the top of my head is Celeste due to the fact that you need a good diagonal D-Pad for those advance and B side) - Dandara (iOS, Android, Switch, Steam) (the mechanics of this game are like pointing a pinball in a Metroidvania game, so you need a good D.pad) - Hades (iOS through netflix app, steam, Switch) (and I quote from the app's comments: "It's an absolute nightmare without precision controls.") - Dead Cells (iOS, Android, Steam, Switch) (fast 2D action) - Shovel Knight (steam, Switch) (within the game, Specter Knight game is so good for testing diagonals just like Celeste) - Sonic Mania (iOS, android, steam, switch) (you don't require of those diagonals, but good if you want to test input latency across multiple systems, same with fighting games) Anyhow... the hardest part was checking those games in the different stores and stuff hehe. Maybe there are more games out there for sure... the hardest part is the multiplatform aspect of things. I hope I contributed with something. Thanks =)

@MrGonz801Ай бұрын
I dont necessarily like their approach. I feel like 8bitdo is kinda becoming lazy because gamesir has also made a name for themselves particularly in the mobile gaming controller market and they give you the option to go Xinput mode, PS Spoof and Native Switch support on their latest Bluetooth telescopic controller. I would probably get an 8bitdo one if they added Xinput and made it in the style of the pro line instead of the ultimate line BUT the truth of the matter is I already forked over an arm and a leg for the backbone one gen 2 about a year ago and aside from the asymmetric sticks im pretty happy with it
@GameTechTalkАй бұрын
Having just one would have greatly improved compatibility, especially with iOS now supporting more controllers. If they had just given us one spoofed mode, you'd have support on Android and iOS and possibly more. I can appreciate what they brought out but I totally understand your stance, it feels like such a missed opportunity that it's difficult to not feel like wanting them to have done just a smidge more as that would've made this controller that much more appealing.

When a usbc controller with both charging pass-through and an sd card slot?
@GameTechTalk28 күн бұрын
I don't know that we'll see that if just because it would greatly affected the latency of the controller. You'd be better off finding a hub to put in between the controller and the phone but you may suffer the same latency issue whenever there is heavy reading/writing to the SD.

I keep asking myself the same question. That's why I think their success is what is at cause. Having MFi certified products in their range, they might have contractually locked themselves into a deal that prevents them from "circumventing" Apple's "security" measures. A contract that include: "You do this, we sue you." kind of ordeal. It's very common in the western world's corporate approach.
