As the COVID-19 global pandemic continues to create new challenges in our daily lives - both personal and professional - many therapists have been wondering what they need to know and do to provide teletherapy to children.
"Teletherapy: Keeping Kids Engaged," was produced by Kelly F. Jackson Counseling LLC on March 15, 2020. Video moderator is Jodie Jackson, joined by Kelly Jackson, LCSW, and Natasha Myrick, a full-time ESL instructor with VIP Kid. Natasha's students are all in China. She is Jodie and Kelly's daughter and she live's in Atlanta where public schools are now conducting classes online. It's possible that Columbia - where the Jacksons live - might not be far from implementing similar, drastic social-distancing measures.
No matter the uncertainty, what is certain is that children currently involved in therapy rely on the connection they have with their therapist. That's the motivation behind producing this video.
How to prep your virtual office, discussion and permissions to get from parents or caregivers before starting, and how to deal with your kiddo becoming distracted during teletherapy are some of the topics of this 27-minute video.
Your feedback, observations, questions, and encouragement is important. Please share your thoughts in the comments and/or via email at kelly.jackson.15@hotmail.com.
Thank you for watching. And THANK YOU for the work you do with children and their families.
