I really appreciate the fact that you differentiate between “I don’t personally like them, I never got into their music “ and some reasons why, and saying “I hate them they suck their music is terrible “ So many people on the internet don’t know the difference. THIS! Agree 100%. Baloff was "bad" but it "worked" OK... but he was a disaster of a person with the drugs and all the related drama. Bonded By Blood is a classic right up there with Kill Em All... but yes the vocals are a weak point but they were passable. Zetro... well I think he was great on the Legacy demo (before they became Testament) but don't really like anything much after that. To be fair he has gotten better on some of the later albums like Tempo Of the Damned. Totally agree on the nasal sound and I don't like the politics of the lyrics. I saw him several years ago do some AC/DC covers at a benefit show for the former bassist of Y&T and finally realized after all these years he is basically trying to do Bon Scott... love Bon... doesn't do it for me with Exodus. I do like the KZbin interview show Zetro has been doing. Rob Dukes FINALLY was the vocalist Exodus always needed. The kind of aggressiveness that perfectly matched the riffs. Every album with Dukes is awesome! That being said I did see a show with Dukes where he was non stop spitting on the stage and it was absolutely disgusting... but he still sounded as good as the record.

Gotta agree with a lot of these, man. Great vid. As a fan of Anthrax, I actually got into them via their more groove metal 1990s albums with John Bush on vocals. The Sound of White Noise and Stomp 442 are utterly pummelling and much different from the Balledonna stuff. Motley Crue’s self-titled album which they recorded with John Corabi instead of Neil is also pretty stellar, with much less vapid songs and a far heavier, dirtier sound and darker tone (because 90s grunge, but still). Like with Bush era Anthrax, it’s basically a different band so shouldn’t be dismissed sight unseen. I’m guessing you’re very aware of these, but just thought I’d mention them.

The thing with classic Anthrax is, you have to be an oldschool metalhead (because of the 80s speed metal style vocals) and have some appreciation for 80s hardcore punk (because of the overall vibe). That's why so many late-Gen Xers, Millennials, and Gen Zs (who probably grew up with Pantera and Slipknot) look down upon the band.

I was a huge Metallica fan back in the day. Three of the four walls in my bedroom were dedicated to them, like literally covered from floor to ceiling in posters and pages ripped out of Kerrang. I waited outside my local hmv the day ‘justice’ came out (much to the puzzlement of the staff) and was lucky enough to see them on that tour but when I first heard the black album I was so disappointed. With each track I was anticipating that smack in the face as they kicked into gear and with each track my disappointment deepened when it never came. I was absolutely gutted. By the time load came out I didn’t even recognise them anymore, they had become everything they had previously claimed to hate. I’m over it now of course but sometimes I do wonder what they might have done if they’d retained their artistic integrity, I think they still would have become one of the biggest bands ever but I guess we’ll never know. Also, yeah fuck the offspring and Coldplay.

I got into them when Ride the Lightning was their most recent album, and like you, waited outside the mall music store to get their new album (at the time Master of Puppets) on release day when it came out. I found myself really only liking about half of Justice however, and when the Black Album came out, I was completely let down. I liked a few tunes on Death Magnetic, but overall, it's been extremely hit or miss since then. Mostly miss, if I'm honest. And for fuck's sake, can they pleeeease stop with the Unforgiven sequels? They had a hit with the first one. I get it. But enough already.

The general consensus is losing Cliff Burton completely changed everything. They bullied Jason Newsted and grew increasingly paranoid over future albums to the point where they imploded, Jason quit, and Rob Trujillo joined and restored peace within the band. They obviously will never hit the heights of those first few albums with the new stuff they put out, but at least they still tour and embrace performing the olden goldies.

Half way through the set Joey starting pointing menacingly at people not having enough fun, and his arm swung in my direction, I didn't react thinking he couldn't possibly be pointing at me as the crowd was massive, but then he jabbed his finger again, I pointed at myself in a questioning sort of way and he nodded, equally menacingly. That pretty much sums up most of the artists on this lise for me. I would love to be able to get into them but I just can't

Agreed with every band you mentioned, except Crue. Yeah they've sucked for a long time but I loved them in the 80's.

Id say I agree with 95% of your assessment. The one I disagree with is Anthrax. For me, it's their live show is great. Some people like Belladona more and some like Bush more. My 2 fav albums are P.O.T and Sound of White Noise..so 1 for each. Manson was ok back in the 90s but is just a mess now. Coldplay could just got eff off...

Slipknot and baby metal for me as well as most off your list tbf. I would say try Bush era Anthrax-that’s many peoples fave era including myself. I do love Joey though. And Rob Dukes era Exodus. A far better singer than the shrill chalkboard tones of Zetro. 🤘

@ I tend not to listen to any other exodus because his voice is fucking awful. Baloff stuff is bearable- just!
