Great initiative and a success! Let's make FM on 10m great again!

Well done James. Looks a nice spot to activate from the car. If there is a repeat of this event hopefully I can get the day off work and join in. 73 Chris M0RSF

Watch this space!!! Yet to be decided but a suggestion of doing this again on 6m FM has been uttered!

Thank you for organising. Nice talking with you. 10m AM next? :D
@AmateurRadioUK5 ай бұрын
Thanks Neal. 10m AM is an interesting idea. There's plenty of other bands which could do with seeing some activity.....6m FM, 4m generally to name two. I've only ever heard contest activity or repeaters on 70cms. Barring the very occasional SOTA S2S by two activators with handhelds on adjacent summits, I've never heard any activity on the simplex FM channels on 70cms. There's a few things we could try if we get enough people interested to make it work.

@@AmateurRadioUK I've been GM beaconing on 29.250 C4FM for a few months with interesting contacts. I'm also itching to try C4FM and DSTAR on HF.

@2m0rot No C4FM capability in my arsenal unfortunately, but I'd love to try my Icom 705 using D-STAR on HF! Let me know if you want to schedule something (email on QRZ is good).

Well done James. It seems you achieved your goal by "creating some noise". Let's hope it's the start of a regular event to create interest, although it's a little sad that it takes something like this to motivate people! I guess it's because operators feel they have a good chance of having a contact with an organized event. Could be the start of something good!

Hi James. Unfortunately, I was unable to participate as we had an event pre booked to run a station at a local museum, however it's great to see that you guys on the whole achieved your aim. Like 145alive, I do wonder how many will forget about the other available bands until the next event 😢. We'll done and full marks 👍

It was certainly something a little different from the norm but unfortunately I think you're right. If I tried 10m FM any other time it would probably be as dead as a dodo!

I hope this becomes a regular event. Sadly, I failed to participate as I was missing an Allen key! I had modified an Albrecht 6290 CB radio for 10m at 15 watts. My intention was to tune an 11m Hamstick antenna for 10m. Without the Allen key this was not going to happen. The receive was good, although I couldn't achieve a satisfactory SWR for transmit. I was able to hear Edmund, M0MNG, who was on the beach to the west of Worthing, having a QSO on 10m FM with a station in Turkey.

What a shame it didn't work out for you. Maybe next time. I'm very happy to have worked Turkey on 10 FM though.

I am on my second Nissan Leaf. Still cant find any way of fitting an aerial other than a mag mount. Have you found any way of fitting a VHF antenna to the car?
@AmateurRadioUK5 ай бұрын
I've not really looked into it if I'm honest. It's a lease so I don't want to do anything to it that will leave marks. I also don't use radio in the car often enough to justify a permanent installation. In my previous cars I have either had roof bars to mount the antenna to, or on one of my cars I drilled a hole in the roof for a permit mount! Depends what you want I guess.
@GordonHudson5 ай бұрын
@@AmateurRadioUK I have used hatchback mounts and that type of thing, but there are no edges on the Leaf unfortunately.

Did anyone try any 10 m repeaters???
@AmateurRadioUK5 ай бұрын
I don't think so. We were really going after ground wave on this one. Unfortunately propagation wasn't particularly favourable for DX. I only managed one contact outside the UK.
