This isn't an Iowa turkey, it isn't a Missouri turkey,
it isn't a huge mid-west cornfed Gobbler, this is
a East Tennessee Mountain Gobbler.
One of Matt's best Gobblers in
30 Years of Turkey Hunting.
He traveled to EAST Tennessee, on the border
of VIRGINIA, TENNESSEE, to hunt a few days
and found this GIANT of a turkey.
A true Silent Stalker,
who would make any Turkey Hunters season.
Matt's never had a turkey mounted but
this one is at the Taxidermist now
and will be looked at many years to come.

I've been seeing turkey in my field where i deer hunt now I'm pumped up on getting me a big gobbler this April , my first time or first real turkey hunt but it's going down here in southeast N.C. can't wait to call one in with my old box call , what size shot do y'all normally use ? My first day out was tough! 15 - 25 mph winds. Birds were quiet no talking/gobblers. Made adjustments moved to an area i’ve never scouted or hunted due to every other piece being already being hunted. Ended killing a tom around 10am

LMFAO you could see the Life and the joy just slide right out of Dale’s Eyes the second the Land Owner/Camera man said he didn’t get the kill shot on Camera lol. Little did Dale know at the time, he didn’t get but maybe 10 seconds of footage the entire hunt of that bird lol. But to be fair to him, he isn’t a camera man, he’s a land owner that just had a camera thrown in his lap and told to film it, and he also Clearly told Dale he can’t get that Joker on camera maybe 7-8 second before Dale pulled the Trigger. So it won’t his fault whatsoever. Dale was tryin to act just fine, but you can tell he was fuckin PISSED that it won’t on film 😂😂😂😂😂he was just about to take his high five back when he heard “that damn tree was right in my way” “you didn’t,kill you didnt, get the, you didn’t , no film” stutterin he was so damn PISSED!!!then he tried to non chalantly say man I hate that we didn’t get it on film lol and had to edit out whatever else he was sayin at a few different places after he heard the kill won’t on camera 😂😂😂 Hey Dale, that for sure sucks that you couldn’t get the bird of the decade on film, it ain’t every day that you kill a 4+ year old bird, and the fact that you run a KZbin Channel, I feel your pain to just barely miss the killshot on camera but 2 things..... #1: I’d rather miss it with the camera than miss it with the 12 gauge 😜🤣 and also #2: id rather the feller filmin do exactly what he did in that situation and just clearly tell you hey man I can’t see him, I reckon in the heat of the moment it either didn’t register in your mind what he said at the time, or you just flat out didn’t hear him. With that bein said, I’d rather the feller filmin just say that he ain’t on camera yet and hold up on the shot if possible, instead of him movin around and making a racket in the brush and leaves tryin his damndest to get the shot on film, and potentially give yalls position away and flush that bird. Specially that old smart clever bird, if they feller had moved a damn muscle to try and film it, just think would you be more pissed to have it on film but not have a bird in the bed of your truck, or would you rather have that Spectacular bird on the way to the Taxidermist and not exactly have the perfect killshot on film?

I killed one in 2021 that was 25lb inch and 1/4 spurs with 7 freaking beards. I couldn't believe it when I first laid hands on him. That's my best bird yet.

Wow! What a tremendous gobbler! What Dale says about coming back to known spots is 110% correct. By far the majority of turkeys I’ve killed over the years have been after 8-10am, very often from spots where I knew they liked to hang out. This tactic works equally well on those mornings when they roosted close but fly down and go somewhere else or when they aren’t actually nearby first thing. If you know they’re around, chances are they’ll come through eventually.

He plays illegal checkers. He was hunting on top of a lot of old corn. He killed my bird illegally. I did not hunt that spot because the numbers were not there to eat the corn before the season started. But this Dale guy hunted right on top of corn illegally!

@@joshuaduzan3095 Yes, he was not hunting where he said he was. He was hunting on a spot that I had permission to be the 1st person to hunt this area in over 20 years. It belongs to a friend of mine since kindergarten. He shot this bird off North Mohawk Road in Western Greene county in East Tennessee. The guy that told him about this bird cuts small cedars from underneath fences, he clears fences out. My friend called me the day of the kill to taunt me that I waited too late and someone had shot it from my corn pile. I told him I was not going to hunt over all that corn. I have a $2,500 shotgun and did not want it taken by TWRA. He sent me the site and video on KZbin. I am a legal beagle, never did anything to get in trouble. The land owner, my friend was mad, but his neighbor showed him where to go he owned around 4 acres. The video showed him in a small set of woods which did not belong to him. Small dead cedars, old one and two strings of fence slightly descending, open field beside the small set of woods, and listen to a train coming by. I thought at 1st my friend was messing with me until I viewed the video. 100% my spot on top of 300 to 340 lbs. of corn. I did not hunt there because the corn had not all been eaten. I was leaving it alone because it was illegal to hunt there. I swear to almighty God himself.

Season just opened up this May and it ends the 31st. It’s a awkward time for turkey hunting but they’ve been unusually quiet in NYS. They’ve been moving from field to field so hopefully they’ll come back in the next couple days to a week

Seems like I've had them run from and to decoys. I'm in east tn was able to to get 2 this last one is kicking my butt. I really thought I had it in the bag by the first week then started messing up lol. I really think its a older mature bird like you said. My plan is to set all day not call. Use a breeder hen.

I harvested my 1st double bearded bird last year, I was told it is a genetic disorder that makes them grow extra beards. Up until P.A ppl harvest birds with5,6 beards. From what gather it's like a doe with antlers. My buddy killed a monster 10pnt doe 4 years ago. Our game warden advises against eating any critter with genetic mutations. To each their own and amazing bird brother. Mine was 28lbs 13inch beRd and inch and 3/4 spurs.

Congratulations. And thanks for all the great lessons. My first time out was day one up here where I am. I got out later than I wanted to. But the second I got out of my car there was a loud heavy gobbler gobbling like mad. I walked in some and he had jumped the roost and gobbled off away from me about a hundred yards. Me being a newbie I didn't think to try and call him back. My thinking that he knew if he had just left that area there wasn't anything there. But I wish I would have tried. Should I have? I went out much earlier two days later set up early and called as the light was coming up good. But I heard nothing. One very faint gobble I think I may have heard a ways off but I can't be sure. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of going to an entirely different plot a few counties over. Should I keep trying that same first area? Close. Got a 27 pounder in Oklahoma a few years ago and I’ve killed a few inch and a half but never one with two 11 inch beards It’s definitely the biggest one I’ve ever taken out of the Virginia Tennessee southern region

Lol I still won’t carry one around just because of how I hunt. But I’ve always said sometimes they help you sometimes they hurt you, just depends on the turkey. They have hurt me more than help in this case they helped. But I’m not against them just rather it be me and the gobbler

@@kevinwimmer4159 sometimes you find subordinate gobblers that come in hot and then shy away from a decoy . So when I’m working a gobbler for 45 minutes or an hour and get him 70 yards and do all that work just to have a decoy screw me up when he sees them , yea I’ll take my chances without one. Evening hunting I will use one every once in a while. When I’m still hunting more

@@daleoutdoors17 i have never called a turkey in that i was sure he didn't like a hen decoy. Now Jake or strutter I have seen the subs shy from. But honestly i hunt without one more then i do with. Not bc i don't like them, its just less weight to carry. But if going to sit in blind let's say on rainy day field edge. I'm definitely taking decoys if I plan to do any calling. My best success is with multiple decoys. Hen and strutter. I also believe the better quality decoys are big game changer then the older non realistic decoys. My 2 cents. Nice hooks!...but that isn’t a double bearded bird. It’s one thick beard. I shot one two days ago that had two beards. They were almost an inch apart from each other with a skin in between them. One was 10.5” and the other 7 1/4”. I have it in game camera with several photos of it. I also shot a tripple bearder back in the 90’s all with half inch or more space between the beards. The beards again were all different lengths. Your beard is one big thick beard that is spread out and probably looks to you like it’s two. You can see right in your video it’s one thick beard. That’s why it’s all the same length. You’ll be able to tell pretty easily when the feathers are pulled back. Guarantee it’s beard is all connected together. Still a trophy bird! Great job!

Actually it was a double. He had two separate beards back under the feathers. Plus the taxidermist confirmed it and can put a spacer between the beards to make it show better. Two 11 inch beards. I’ve shot a pile of double beards in my life so I know lol. But yea he was a big one for sure

The one mounted on the board was 12”... that means it was 2, 12” beards because they separated??? If so I’ve shot countless double beard turkeys castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?424303-Broke-in-my-1873%92-Charles-Daly-today!&p=5179791#post5179791 It’s pretty easy to tell if it’s a true double beard bird. There is loose skin between the beard bases and the beards are completely separated from each other. I have shot and seen quite a few harvested as well. I would have like you to show a video of the the actual beard(beards).

He just showed a Shawna video of that beard up close if you’re claiming it’s a double beard because it sure looks like one big thick rope to a blind man. Not trying to pick on you but I can spread many of my thick beards apart and make them look like they’re doubles. I love your videos regardless. They helped me out with turkey behavior the other day. I have been turkey hunting since the early 80’s and still learn new things every day. Keep up the good work!

Hell the Pace I’m not now I’ll be finished by the End of the 2023 season, which will have me done at the age of 29. For those of you Viewers that Don’t know/are new at Turkey huntin, the “Super Slam” is to kill a Spring LongBeard in all 49 states of the continental United States and Hawaii. The only States that Turkeys aren’t native in surprisingly is Alaska. But yea anyhow The rest of this Spring im goin to finish off the east Coast/NorthEast. Next Spring is goin to be my West Coast/Hawaii/South West hunts. As of Today I have killed in 27 states, got 3 more states planned the rest of this season, hopefully will kill in atleast 2 of them states, so I reckon I’m on a pretty good pace. congrats on a heck of a bird Dale, you ought to consider gettin that sucker mounted. There’s a Younger Feller in West Virginia that I’ve got my Biggest Eastern to Date, my first Rio, my first Merriam’s, my first Osceola, and My Gould’s Gobbler that I was blessed by the grace of God to kill in Arizona, that feller Mounted all of em for me and I won’t go to anyone else for mountin Birds. He is one of the best in the country, he’s got fair prices, takes his time but has em back to you fairly quick, and overall is just a great guy to work with. I can email you his information if need be. But anyhow, because I Killed that Gould’s in Arizona, I’ll be beyond blessed once I finish my Super Slam, I’ll not only be in the Very Small Super Slam Club, but I’ll also at the same time be in the EVEN SMALLER Royal Slam Club (must kill 1 of every 4 subspecies in the US, finish the Super Slam, and also kill a Gould’s Turkey, which is mainly a bird found in Mexico, but you can also find em in Arizona, New Mexico, and southwest Texas)

Past Jake spurs, Spur length and or beard length have little to do with age. I've killed huge birds with short spurs in rocky terrain and young turkeys with long spurs in field areas. And visa versa!

Just to prove you don’t have to have them to kill turkeys lol. Just sit still I wear a mask when I got it but half the time I forget it in the vehicle and I ain’t going to go back for it. I’ve killed more without a mask then with it and I’ve shot them at 12 steps
