In Denmark our Christmas dinner consist of both whole roasted duck and a whole roasted filet of porc with the cracling on. And sides of braised red cabbage, potatoes browned in sugar and regular potatoes with gravy. Dessert a rice pudding with almonds, vanilla and whipped cream called "ris a la mande"

Thank you for the delicious, easy recipe, Shinichi! My mom used to grill something very like it on a hibachi. For Christmas we had roast turkey with chestnut stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed asparagus, and homemade cranberry sauce and spiced peaches. Mincemeat pie for dessert. Now I have just the vegetarian bits. ツ I hope you're going to have a celebration, whether with friends or just the two of you, for your 20th anniversary! Twenty years is a testament to your love. ❤❤❤

Hi, this looks yummy! I'm Japanese, and just FYI, usually this type of meat rolls / 肉巻き/ nikumaki is made with pork (if you google, you'll see). Also, there really is no need to use toothpicks, the rolled stuff won't come apart without them. 😉
@shampoovta5 жыл бұрын
My mom started making a Crown Roast for Christmas and we carry on the tradition. You have to order the Crown Roast from a butcher ahead of time. You get little boots with the meat. We put stuffing in the center of the roast. Serve with a sweet mustard sauce.

We do eat slowly braised (over the night) rabbit for christmas, it's maybe just a thing at our family because normally in Switzerland it's cheese fondue / cheese racclette. Or more luxury with meat, it's fondue bourguignonne or fondue chinoise (kinda shabu shabu) But as we know the rabbit breeder since three generations, since my grandmother always got them there, we have bunny. They are the best and tastiest rabbits, because they have a happy life in just a small group hold in the garden, eating good food, so it's something very special and I appreciate it to be able to eat this ^^

Happy 19th. Meal ooks good. Another idea is to add 1 cup beef broth and heat with pan drippings. You can then add a mix of water and cornstarch to the pan to make a gravy.
@VeryCherryCherry5 жыл бұрын
For Christmas we have a roasted turkey with lots of sides: mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables (like carrot, parsnip, turnip, and sweet potato), sweet corn kernels, peas, stuffing, buns, gravy from the turkey drippings, and cranberry sauce. It's not always the same; sometimes more and sometimes less. It really depends on how many people you're having over for dinner and preferences and allergies. My parents are divorced so I go to two dinners. Dinner with my mom's family usually includes several more people (sometimes there's like 20 people that show up!), and so we will also sometimes have a ham and tourtière (since my mom is from New Brunswick) which is a French Canadian meat pie that usually uses beef, pork, and veal, but my mom only uses beef and pork.

I have to try this recipe, thanks for sharing! Here in Finland we have a christmas meal. It includes joulukinkku or 'christmas ham' which is a large piece of pork (3-12kg). It will be slowly cooked in oven for several hours and finally coated with mustard. It is so good!
@VeryCherryCherry5 жыл бұрын
That sounds fantastic. What kind of mustard? In Canada both turkey and ham are popular for Christmas. We usually get a spiral-cut ham with a brown sugar glaze. 😋 In addition to the turkey. 👌

This recipe reminds of "negi maki" at several Japanese restaurants in our area. Beef rolled around green onions or asparagus. Would "bulgogi" style meat work? At Christmas we in Virginia we eat turkey, ham, oysters, and sweet potatoes, traditionally. My family does a breakfast casserole like a savory bread pudding for Christmas breakfast.

What a deliciously simple recipe! Thanks for sharing! I think if the green beans were traded for asparagus, you could even get away with passing this off as a "fancy" dish. And I love your decorations. Merry Christmas, guys!

Yeah I don’t like peppers either but tbh it’s the beef I’m caring about ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️ Edited to answer Satoshi: usually turkey (or roasted goose/duck/beef) with mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, peas, carrots, sage and onion stuffing, gravy, Brussel sprouts, sausage wrapped in bacon (pigs in blankets) and sometimes other vegetables to accompany. Further edit to say...... Satoshi seemed semi impressed. Aw 19 years. I’ve only been with my wife 21 years. Very sweet ☺️☺️

For those who can't find mirin, try looking for it at a chinese food store by the name of Wei Lin! It's a staple ingredient in chinese food too, so you should have no problem finding it :D We usually have roasted beef, also, since I'm from Galicia (north of Spain) seafood is mandatory!!

Beef is expensive here too. But the quality of beef in Japan is so much better. I love this dish, but I have always problems making it since we do not have thinly sliced beef here. I have to slice it myself and it always turns out too thick. Other fillings that might work are some julliened green onions with the carrot. And perhaps kabocha. And you can make a nikujaga niku maki (meat roll up) with parboiled potato and slices of onion :) I like almost all meat but usually eat either chicken or pork since it is the cheapest. Here traditional it is grilled chicken or turkey, but nowadays for Christmas you can eat what you want. Many eat game meat, or a rolled up piece of meat called rollade. gourmetten (cooking at the table with small pans on a special hotplat) is very popular as well. With my parents we have this year turky, but not a whole grilled bird, that's too much hahaha.

Sugoi brother! Oishisou! I will definitely try this recipe soon! I’ll have to use pork though.....Josh does not eat beef....Don’t be surprised, if you see a picture of this at our Oshogatsu table, side-by-side with our Osechi dishes. I’m going to attempt to make your Datemaki recipe again. Wish me luck! Any tips on how I can make it moist? It turned out dry for me last year. 😩 Our traditional Christmas dinner consists of homemade Tamales, rice, and beans, however, time got away from us, and we didn’t make any tamales this year. Instead, it’s going to be a ham dinner. Thank you for sharing yet another fabulous recipe! ♥️

Xmas food for me (in the US) is mostly the same as US Thanksgiving...turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. Meat preference depends on the preparation, though lamb is a little too gamey/rich to me and I get sick of it after 3-4 bites (kinda like anko ;-) ). Weird that people say they can't get mirin because it's been in normal grocery stores everywhere I've lived in the US.

Actually on the 24th everyone would be busy preparing for food for their families to eat together on X'mas eve. There'll be spaghetti and or pancit (rice/flour noodle dish) fruit salads with many other special dish they prefer but it wouldn't be complete without X'mas ham, quezo de bola, and of course lechon!! And even if you dont cook much your neighbors will be more than happy to share theirs with you👍👍

This looks delectable and very easy!!! *question* I have sakes called “Konteki Tears of Dawn Daiginjo”, “Takatenjin Soul of the Sensei”, and another that’s mostly in kanji, I think it was a holiday plum one? Can I use any of these as cooking sake or is it different? We eat crown roast pork for Christmas dinner. Christmas Eve we have Swiss Fondue with a nice fluffy bread with a crunchy outside! Love the cooking apron!!! Favorite meats are beef and chicken (tied for 1st) then pork and lamb (tied for 2nd)
