There are well over 5 million grandparents raising their grandkids due to addiction. I am one of those grandparents. The numbers and the stories are heartbreaking. I ended up adopting my grandson as soon as parental rights were terminated. There is a lot to his story, our story...too much to even attempt to explain here. I know there needs to be laws put in place to (above and beyond what there is now) to protect these babies and to support them as they grow. My son is a success story. He is 9 1/2 now and I am proud of him everyday. He is amazing. His last report card was all A's.

@@whoasked9938 it's her story as well and she has every right to share her story. She didn't include any personal information regarding the child, no way of identifying the child. You should never silence another. Not to mention it's rather hypocritical of you to say how it's that child's story to tell yet your watching a video regarding 8 other children and seem to be just fine with that. The moment we take these children into our homes our story intertwines with their own, sometimes it's temporary and sometimes it's forever.

@@vixxxenfoxxx3660 To be fair, the OP's gave away a lot of information. Their YT alias is "Eastern Washington Resident"...So, we can narrow down where the kid might live. We know the child is adopted by a grandparent, has an addict parent, is male, is 9.5 years old, and made all A's in school....That narrows down the pool even further.

Way back in the way back, my sister knew a girl who did this. She just had baby after baby, at home, because she was a drug addict! Too high to go to the hospital. She was able to keep some but not all of her children. It was appalling to me that California allowed this happened time and time again. I have no idea whatever happened to her or her children. I'd like to think the state took them all, but it's California so I didn't hold out hope...

Completely agree! No one forces you to get pregnant or have a baby, so if you choose to get pregnant ( yes getting pregnant is a choice. We all know how babies are made and how to prevent them) you owe it to your child to allow them the chance to be born as healthy as possible! Charges should be filed against any woman or parent who continues to use drugs while pregnant or while parenting!

I suppose if the books were balanced they could offer a chuck of change a month for women in addiction with previous cps removals who consent to depo contraceptives and attend timely for thier administration. It costs far more to have these poor baby's in care and born in withdrawal to boot. I used to work in community mental health, now work in substance misuse as a nurse, I had a lady in mental health care who was unable to look after herself but refused to stop having babies and having them removed, her medications caused babies issues and in the end a court enforced a contraceptive depot and if she refused it she would be sectioned, it was an extreme case where she had had 13 children all removed at birth because she was so mentally unwell even when compliant with medications. She didnt really have the capacity to be in the community but we dont have long term inpatient care for people in the UK anymore unless theyve committrd crimes or also have physical health issues severe enough to warrant a care home. That was the only time I've seen anything against someone's consent around contraception.

My birth mother, even though I never met her, is dear to me. she knew she couldn’t care for me, so she made what must have been a truly difficult choice. After watching this, I realize how grateful I should be for her care for me. I was born strong and healthy. That was in 1967. In those days, that was brave of her. She gave me life and a good start. I am an addict in recovery, sober for 2.5 years and I cannot comprehend how people addicted to drugs just pops one baby after another out. Drugs are not an excuse. My last drug of choice was crack cocaine and I didn't behave in that fashion. There are ways to stop a pregnancy from progressing and there are even more ways to prevent pregnancy from happening in the first place. Drugs are not an excuse. You know the life you're living, I knew what kind of life I was living, even in the very end of my own addictive horror show. This man and woman are not this way because of drugs, they're simply bad people. They get sober and they'll just be sober bad people. This behavior is God damn disgusting and this judgement is coming from a former crack head. I just don't get it. When she has the pipe to her lips for the 9th time she never stopped and thought about what the hell she was doing? He watches her take a hit with her big round belly and he doesn't pause for one second? The answer is no, no they did not and that's because it has zero to do with the loss of control associated with addiction and everything to do with being a fundamentally garbage can of a human being. *Rant over*

Product of the Florida foster care system. From 2 years old til the day I turned 18. I bounced from home to home til I was 12. Then placed in an all girls home. Think of it as an orphanage for girls whose parents didn’t want or could not care for them. Went to regular high school. My friends had to have background checks to hang out side of them home. That place was the best part of my childhood. And I’m thankful and my life turned out good.

Your friends had to have background checks to hangout outside of "them" home? That makes no sense whatsoever, but if you're trying to say your friends had to have background checks to hangout outside of THEIR home, there's no way that's true and it still makes absolutely no sense. Background checks cost hundreds of dollars and have to be done by a background check company. Thankful every day that a judge terminated bio parents rights. I went to my foster home at 10 weeks old and my adoption was finalized at 3. I got the best family and we celebrate every year on November1st. Yes. I get 2 birthdays a year (I will be 50 in June). So many people would love to adopt but courts are reluctant to terminate. By the time their rights are terminated many children have been in and out of foster homes, back and forth to family members who are often no better than the home they came from. Blessed every day and never take my family for granted.

That and so many are not terminated and then you see the cases that we see all over social media of dead children because parents abuse them. A big one that I'm seeing is meth parents that have hurt their babies in the most horrendous ways. It's like these systems need to be protecting these children instead of going after the ones that have minor things that have happened or nothing that's happened and you have spiteful people making calls. Something needs to change and stop all these kids from falling through the cracks

I’m signing up to be a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster kids. We are an unbiased supporter of the child and build a relationship with them and interview all the adults in their lives and give reports to the judge in charge of their case. Kids statistically have a much better outcome and quality of life when they have a CASA assigned to them. Definitely look into it in your area if you want to help but don’t think being a foster parent is the right path.

I like to mention this to those who speak about NAS, as it is a very important topic and a chance to further educate those who can pass on the education and make a difference in children’s and families lives and safety long term. One important thing to realize with NAS, is that it is treatable today, and the reason this is important to realize is because most substances that cause withdrawal cannot safely be stopped during pregnancy, and have to be switched instead to a maintenance medication, such as Methadone. There is a much lower chance of NAS with this, 40-50%, and the withdrawal symptoms for the infant are much more mild than withdrawals from illicit substance use, and studies show that babies who do experience withdrawals post birth from a MAT pregnancy (Medication assisted Treatment) are extremely unlikely to have any negative long term effects of both the NAS and the MAT treatment in utero itself. The reason this is essential to know is because currently the leading cause of mothers in recovery jumping off of MAT while pregnant and relapsing (or the baby encountering severe issues or death due to withdrawals in utero) is from the stigma and misinformation surrounding NAS, the assumptions that mothers should stop use while pregnant to avoid NAS post birth, and anything other than that, anything that could lead to NAS is bad parenting, uncaring mothering, and selfish-it’s a very big problem. The issue is that if someone becomes pregnant while chemically dependent on a substance (such as opioids), then at some point the baby WILL withdraw. This is why MAT is the only safe option for a pregnancy while chemically dependent, because opioids are a unique substance (the main substance that causes NAS as I’m sure you know), in that the substance exposure itself is not what causes issues unlike other substances, instead the risks come from the withdrawals, overdose, consistently changing doses, and exposure to unknown dangerous agents within the substance used to cut it. MAT is necessary because continuing to use illicit substances Carries obvious risks, including worse NAS symptoms, and inducing withdrawal symptoms while in utero is extremely dangerous, the fetus is under developed, more susceptible to seizures, organ damage, placental abruption, spontaneous abortion, etc, and medical professionals have way of intervening, treating the NAS symptoms or monitoring the fetus while in utero. Therefore, MAT treatment, taking an opioid replacement medication throughout pregnancy, allows the fetus to receive a safe, regulated dose of the chemical it is dependent on, which prevents fluctuating levels, overdose risk, and withdrawal risk, it is time release meaning the levels stay much more regulated through the day, rather than a high peak that drops, it lowers the risk of NAS, as well as minimizing the severity of symptoms if NAS occurs post birth, and the risks of both the medication and NAS from the medication have shown to be extremely minimal, much less than things such carrying a child while or overweight, underweight, or diabetic, with most children who were exposed to properly used and prescribed MAT treatment having no long term issues. It also lowers the chance of illicit substance use from pregnant mothers by more than 60%, a very high number in comparison to the alternative.

I have been a foster parent to 5 children. After that, I was a member of a Citizen Review Board that reviewed foster care cases for the judge. It was important work (volunteer) but it was absolutely heartbreaking. When I would come home and hug my son tightly, he would say "oh gee you were in court again." Children are our most precious gift and we were only able to have one, so it was especially hurtful to have to listen to parents who obviously did not want to work to get their children. Many parents stopped showing up to meetings when they saw we were seeking termination of rights. Good case worker.

If only family planning and 5 year Norplant injections were common conversation topics and if only the “parents” would give their children up for adoption at birth. I see how many unfit parents the courts bend over backwards to re-unite with their children only to outright beat the children or starve them to death . I don’t believe the “parents “ who’ve shown so little interest should be given so much time and consideration for reunification. That child would die in their care .

I've seen some attorney's really go at the caseworker and question their allegations, show the CPS' bias, and challenges supposed contacts. Honestly, if the CPS worker REALLY wanted to find the mother to give her a heads up, she could have found her. But, I get it - she's super busy and she seems to have a soft spot for the baby/foster mom. I am almost 4 years clean. However, I live with the guilt that I had a child placed in adoption due to me being on drugs, followed by me being sentenced to a year of jail time for possession. She's wonderful, safe, loved and nurtured. After I got and stayed clean, I got married, bought a home and have two children now. Neither of which have had any drug exposure, ever. I was afraid the guilt of my addiction and consequences would make it easier to stay a drug addict until I died. However, here I am. My local cps is very supportive of my recovery and have made a huge positive impact on my life. With surprise gifts, letter of praise and face to face hugs in public. Addiction is hard. But if you want the help, it's there. Just gotta fight for recovery as hard as you can as if your life depends on it. Because it does.

Back in the day, I saw a verrrry pregnant 'woman' smoking meth. I was in a drug house, without really realizing it because there was a full family living there, grandma in a rocker and all- no one looked like they were selling meth. I casually asked when she was due (I was about 19, not trying to get caught up in a scary situation). She was a couple weeks from delivery. If I remember right, she was 21- and it was her 5th child... all had been taken at birth. She said, seriously, "My kids are all tight. They have each other's backs." Uh. The oldest was probably 5. What I didn't understand was how SHE wasn't in custody... I think about her now and then.

The few states that do criminalize drug use during pregnancy have seen dire results, it has increased the risk to the babies, mothers are less likely to seek help to get sober out of fear, more likely to try to hide and have a home birth and avoid prenatal care out of fear, so not only did it not “deter” the issue, but it far worsened and still does worsen the issue. It is a massive failure. That’s why. We can be mad and upset and uncomfortable with people using substances while pregnant all we want, but if our goal is ultimately to help the children, we have to move our intentions from punishing the mother to what will truly help the child, because often the two don’t align

@@sarawoods7874 I have 3 sons. One moved in and became ours at 16yrso when his methed up mom decided she didn't want kids anymore. He was abandoned by his dad as a toddler who chose drugs over him too. Between the PTSD and his autism, it's been tough. He's doing okay. I have 2 other sons that are adults also now. I worry and pray about one of them and the decisions he's making every single day. We love them, instruct them, and try to show them God has a great plan for them ... but Mama at the end of the day we have to love them enough to let them go be adults. You did right by him. I'm so sorry he lost his battle but because of you he won the war. You made sure he was well loved. He remembered that in the end. You did good Mama. Our children are whoever God sends us, no matter how they arrive.

I’m 37 years old and just had my first baby 6 months ago. I’m almost 3 years clean from a 20 year heroin and crack cocaine addiction. By the Grace of god there go I! My baby is the biggest blessing and the absolute love of my life!!!! I worked my ass off to get where I am today and it wasn’t easy at all! But it’s definitely possible and I fought so hard to get here that the devil himself is not gonna take this away from me. With that being said- everything happens for a reason and I’m glad that I didn’t have any babies throughout my addiction, but even so, I cannot fathom the idea of not wanting my child. It breaks my heart into a million pieces just thinking about it. 😢

Gotta feel for Mr. Radcliff. He's got a tough job trying to advocate for THESE "parents".... he had nothing to work with and I'm sure he knows the children shouldn't be with those parents but legally he HAS to do everything possible to try and keep the parents involved. That's gotta create internal struggle.

After watching several of these hearings, it seems so ridiculous how much legal recourse these dead beat parents are afforded over the babies and children they've harmed, abused, or neglected who have zero power and rights to their own lives but grown adults can continuously screw them up and over repeatedly and still given legal representation and rights. It's ridiculous and only continues to harm the babies and children.

I wonder if the parents walked away because they knew it was in the best interest for the child. I like to hope that’s why, I can’t wrap my head around it being any other way. I’m very happy for the adoptive family but I’m heartbroken for the child to grow up to learn about this, that’s just so unfair. I hope all nine of those children are living the best life they can ❤

As someone in recovery, some women think pregnancy will get them sober. They may have stopped during previous pregnancies. However, the more children and age of the mother make this less likely. The addiction keeps going, and the affects on the children are more likely the more babies born. Pregnancy is like a geographical cure for some women. They just bring the addiction with them, and now they're affecting another innocent human being.

All my brother's kids were born with drugs in their system. But yet cps did nothing. It's so sad. Just found out they are about to have number 6 soon. 🤦 They are living in a basement of a small house with 12 or 13 people and the kids sleeping on the floor. I swear if something happens to those kids I will make cps accountable. They've been called on many times by me and others.

From what I've seen, CPS goes after parents that care, makes them jump through hoops, and finally signs off on them. The parents that don't care quickly fail the process and the ones that don't care at all are relieved to have the children taken away. CPS is the absolute worst with falsely accused parents. (Hospital called with a false positive* because they gave mother wrong medication during labor!) Harass, threaten, demean, belittle and bully into some admission of guilt before finally closing a case and exiting. *Zantac shows as a false positive for amphetamines until sent to the lab. Complete urinalysis and bloodwork would eliminate this false positive but since patient had grounds to sue the hospital, cps was called in to intimidate patient from seeking legal recourse.

Does anyone else find it odd that they didn't specifically mention the drug/s in question? "Drugs were of concern", "Drugs test results were concerning", "illegal drugs". This is a court of law, why did they feel the need to not mention the drugs for the record?
@floursandroses
@floursandroses Жыл бұрын
I think it may come down to a HIPPA violation, maybe because the court is Livestreamed. Plus, the judge and all attorneys would have the actual drug test evidence that states what drug it was, so there is no need to mention the actual drugs. That is just my guess. I was questioning the same thing, and that was all I could think of. I could be wrong.
