Terrell Owens joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004. Terrell Owens left the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005. His beef with Donovan McNabb caused a rift in a team coming off of 4 straight NFC Championships, and 1 Super Bowl appearance.
It was about money. It was about power. It was all beef.

One thing not really mentioned in the video was just how much the Philly sports media absolutely hated Andy Reid - and by extension, McNabb. That crowd who booed him on draft day was organized by the local radio clowns because lots of people in Philadelphia wanted to draft Ricky Williams at running back with their first pick. If it ended there, that really wouldn't be a problem. But the radio, TV, and paper fools (that call themselves pundits) doubled down and continued to pile on both Andy Reid (whom they thought was a stupid man) and Donovan McNabb (because he was not "rebelling" against either the coach nor management). The other important piece of the beef is Drew Rosenhaus. For years, Rosenhaus had been trying to "break" Joe Banner and the Eagles when it came to negotiations of veteran contracts - the Eagles practiced big time cap management and drew a hard line when it came to contract numbers for older players. Rosenhaus had failed getting the big contracts for players like Hugh Douglas and Jeremiah Trotter (both All-Pros), and Rosenhaus believed he had one of the two players who could break that mold in Terrell Owens and Brian Westbrook. Owens and Rosenhaus fought the big fight with Banner, Reid, and Lurie, doubling-down and going to big-time (and unnecessary) extremes, egged on by a Philly sports media that saw this is a possible opening to get both Reid and McNabb booted from the Eagles.
@coachwane
@coachwane 3 жыл бұрын
That a great God damn point. I would also add that T.O/Drew actually signed a brand new Contract when arrived with the Eagles from Baltimore worth 49.7 Million for 5 years. So the question comes to ask, T.O if you wanted more money why sign a long term contract that made you top 3 highest paid in the league.

@bigdinlaca
@bigdinlaca 4 жыл бұрын
@@rob7216 I think you missed the point. McNabb said in public that he doesn't get involved in negotiations between front office and players. Yet, it was reported that he went to the F.O. to make sure Westbrook was taken care of. That meant he lied and T.O. found out he was a partial QB when T.O. believed McNabb wasn't. Now, it is easy to say Westbrook is this and that but the reality is in that system every running back was good. Think about it, Staley, Westbrook, and McCoy all were great under Reid's system. It was plug and play as long as you can catch out the backfield. However, it didn't get them past the Conference Championship because the team relied heavy on short passing and defense. T.O. brought the vertical passing and defenses couldn't really stop them as long as T.O. was on the field.

Terrel Owens had beef with all his quarterbacks. He said Jeff Garcia was gay in San Francisco. He said McNabb got tired and much more in Philly. He said Tony Romo only threw to his friends and insinuated this was partially due to racial issues. Owens was a club room cancer and narcissist. With his body and work ethic he should have played till he was 40 but no one could stand him. His last year in the league he had 983 yards, avg of 13.7 yards per reception, and 9 touchdowns. Solid number 2 receiver stats and boarder line number 1 receiver stat. But no one could stand the guy. People say he didn't drink or get in trouble with the law so it's not fair that he couldn't get a job and people that were getting arrested could. But the point is if you can't get along with your coworkers at some point you're not going to be employable. You don't have to be buddy buddy but kill the drama. Also when you earn that reputation in a 32 team league where coaches move around and are friends with coaches on other teams you don't just poison the well on 3 teams...that type of thing ripples out to other teams.

The way the organization handled this was probably the worst blunder in Eagles History. 20TD’s in 22 Games!!?? During this time TO was the difference maker in our offense. This caused us at least 1 Super Bowl for sure.....TO coming back from an injury to play in the SB showed his toughness & he never should’ve been able to walk away from the team. Probably caused McNabb to not make the HOF either.

Like every beef, there's blame on both sides. Two immature babies. McNabb gets more blame because he didn't produce. Not necessarily my stance on the matter, just telling you like it is. Philly fans like Owens more. And that's because Terrell was elite and played in the SB on a broken leg. McNabb still cries about not being liked right away and routinely came up short in the playoffs. Neither player was a championship player.

@logicaldude3611

Vick was at least a guy that was exciting and revolutionary, McNabb was wildly inconsistent, inaccurate, and was carried by his playmaking ability and his team's defense. But for some reason (well, we know the reason) people wanted to act like he was Patrick f*cking Mahomes out there. It was extremely annoying and irritating. When Rush made those comments, that was coming right off the first couple weeks of the year where McNabb was SUCKING IT UP. I mean REALLY bad. But it was the same thing over and over, people acted like the guy was a walking gold jacket or something. This was a guy whose poor play and inadequacies were not allowed to be talked about in the media (and again, you know why). There was a narrative to uphold. If you watched games objectively, you saw right away that he was not a great passer of the football. Dirt balls constantly, each pass was really a crap shoot. Either hit his target or missed wildly. The only thing you worried about was his ability to extend plays, never his passing ability. The guy never threw for 4000 yards in his career and was USUALLY around 20tds 10ints. I mean, that's okay, but that's about it. After several years in the league his weight started ballooning and he couldn't run anymore, he was more just a guy who could escape a little bit like old Big Ben but with a fraction of the passing ability.

I’m sorry but that rush clip was bs. Mcnabb was a bang average qb and was overrated by the media for the sole purpose of him being black. It’s honestly more racist to overate a black qb because he’s black which sets a lower standard for other black qbs with the implication of black people having less capability for anything let alone quarterbacking
