Observation regarding the strikes... It seems like if it tells you to pay attention and the image is showing grey hands, you can just look back at the road, and it'll be fine. But if the image is showing the red/orange hands and it beeps at you it's way more sensitive, and would prefer it if you apply force to the wheel rather than just look back at the road. So if you want to avoid strikes in the future, that might be the key.
@Buggabones
@Buggabones 16 күн бұрын
Yes. Theres two types of nags. The common nag you can flick the scroll with and get rid of. The stressed nag is when FSD isnt comfortable, usually caused by rows of traffic cones in my experience, it throws up the red hands, and you must torque the wheel. You can not flick the scroll wheels for this type of nag. It wants solid 2-3 seconds of pressure on the wheel or youll get a strike. This is whats happening to him. There is no difference in beep sounds or colors besides the tiny red hands to tell which type of nag you're getting. And since you're suppose to stare at the road like a robot, its impossible to glance down and check if its a normal nag or red hands nag. Bad design, surely it will be fixed.

@@Buggabonesvery annoying, it red nags all the time if there's a turn, sometimes even if your hands are on the wheel because you have to apply an unrealistic amount of force, and the line between that and disengagement is too shallow

It is strange that the new (no hands) system requires you to keep your eyes on the road yet you need to keep your eyes on the screen if you do not want to miss a note that you need to pay attention to the road. They need an audio sound saying to keep your eyes on the road before they give you a strike otherwise one must keep looking at the screen to make sure the car knows you are keeping your eyes on the road.

I think resting your hand on the wheel is still the best thing to do since you get the feedback of the instantaneous steering control which helps ease your mind about trusting it or not and if you do need to take over you are instantly ready for it. Personally I prefer having to touch the wheel and not looking forward to not having to touch it and it wanting me to stare straight down the road the entire time.

Hey Chris, I just want you thank you for the video, and the ride along. I am currently driving on V12.3.6, still waiting for the update to V12.4, and so I got so angry after getting 2 strikes for not having my hands on the wheel, I simply turned it off, as I really took it personally, not that I didn’t deserve the strikes, as I almost never put my hands on the wheel, because that’s the reason I bought the car. I didn’t buy the car so that I can drive it around, I bought the car so that it can drive me around. So again, thank you for all your work, and I really appreciate you, as you’ve been very helpful, in your explanations/presentations in all your videos. Cheers 🥂

@nixter1nixter1
@nixter1nixter1 16 күн бұрын
Between 2019 and 2022, Tesla employees used an internal messaging system to share sometimes highly invasive videos and images recorded by customers’ car cameras. These built-in cameras, which assist with driving, captured content that was routinely shared among employees. Some of the shared material included people in compromising situations, such as a video showing a man approaching a Tesla completely naked. Other footage involved car crashes and road rage incidents. It’s concerning that some of these recordings were made when cars were parked and turned off, allowing employees to see inside people’s garages and private properties. Despite Tesla’s claim that the camera system is designed to protect users’ privacy, this incident highlights the need for better safeguards and transparency regarding customer data.

Since you seem to have the attention of Tesla engineers on twitter. Could you ask them to add an option for safety score warnings. I’ve been thinking it’d be kinda cool if there was an orange-red warning similar to the blue FSD warning anytime we’re braking too hard or turning too hard or following too close and all that jazz so we can more proactively drive safer when not using FSD. Very helpful Chris. I also wear sunglasses on all day time drives unless it's raining. AS I have a 2018 Model X (no interior camera) I won't be able to take advantage of hands free driving. The duration between nags seems much shorter than what you experience. Mineis 30 seconds or so and is really annoying. Perhaps it's longer with highway driving and in that scenario, I tend not to use FSD when there is a lot of traffic. I know that seems counter intuitive but the X notifies with a thin white light on the binacle display and it is easily ignored even when you are concentrating on the road. I lost FSD for 7 days just because of that notification feature which I believe is poorly implemented on this older model Tesla.

This is in addition to the global setting of sending data back or not, there are specific controls for the internal camera footage privacy.

I find this "Eyes Forward - Hands-Free" feature way too sensitive from when there is a 1st warning (for example looking at the Tesla screen to change a setting, drinking a beverage, etc) and staring straight ahead for the camera to confirm your eye position, B-BAM.... strike-out. It would be better IMHO if after the first warning it had a count down timer or next final warning to let you know that it is going to a issue a strike-out. Then, what the heck, one has to STOP the car and re-start, which is silly, since most will do this awkward off/on ramp procedure or worse, stop on the side of the highway which is very dangerous. Best approach would be a time-out period which gets longer each time one gets a strike-out, for example from 1 min for the 1st, 1 hour for the 2nd, to 7 days for the seventh, for each cumulative strikeout, reseting each strikeout every 7 days from when it was issued.

We just watched this video. We are on 12.3.6 with our model X and we are seeing that we have strikes that built up we’ve gotten four strikes and two of them have been because we have sped up through cruise control, but we are finding that they are not going away after seven days, so we currently have we’re currently sitting at four and we’re constantly getting beeped at for stuff that we’re not doing like last night I was driving had my hand on the yoke was watching the steering and it kept beeping at me…. Is this something you are seeing different where the strikes go away after seven days? With 12.4.1?

In my area, 12.3.6 doesn't see the 70, 75 mph speed limit signs. It also still wants to run off the road in the same spot. I guess it is depending on mapping rather than using the cameras. I hope 12.4.1 will fix this.

The camera is the primary tool to monitor the driver, however the wheel nag is not removed. Ill never use this unless they change something. The blue flash stays on way too long even after you've looked ahead. There is zero difference in warning sounds. There's actually two types of nags, I'm sure you know this. The basic nag you get every 1-2 minutes, but the other nag is when its in a situations its not comfortable (traffic cones arounds you), it throws up red hands and you HAVE to torque the wheel, you cannot flick the scroll wheels for this type of nag. The problem is, you're getting the red hands nag and it still says pay attention to the road. That's wrong, it should say there touch the wheel, and you're getting strikes because of it.
@BigBen621
@BigBen621 16 күн бұрын
_it throws up red hands_ The red hands is not a nag, it's a requirement to take back control immediately, which is consistent with SAE Level 2 requirements.
@Buggabones
@Buggabones 14 күн бұрын
@@BigBen621 No, not the giant red steering wheel that takes up the entire screen.. Thats the take over immediately. Theres a nag with small red hands. In normal FSD, thats what beeps at you. Regular nags dont beep. The problem is, with eye tracking, BOTH nags now beep. Impossible to tell if it wants eye contact on road, or hands on wheel.
@BigBen621
@BigBen621 14 күн бұрын
@@Buggabones OK, thanks. I guess I haven't watched the details closely enough to make the distinction. I'm certainly familiar with the giant red hands and steering wheel; but I probably don't look closely at the different icons that go with nags, and just take the action required by the text of the nag.

The problem is these instant strikes where you get very little warning. The old version would give you much more warning before a strike. You might say you get five strikes, no big deal. If you have Tesla insurance, each one of those strikes significantly raises your insurance premium.

"Is the benefit worth letting them see you" Them? No human is actively watching you. The FSD computer is the "them". You can opt out of data sharing if you don't want any video clips shared with Tesla (which they would use for training and improving the driver monitoring software). So no need for any privacy tradeoff to benefit.

Dude, I've been watching your videos, how have you not picked up on the fact that when you get the RED symbols on the steering wheel prompt, you MUST then apply pressure to the wheel. That's why you keep getting strikes. Elon said this, it was on twitter by some other people, and it's easy to see in your videos. Just trying to help out.

@BigBen621
@BigBen621 13 күн бұрын
_when you get the RED symbols on the steering wheel prompt, you MUST then apply pressure to the wheel._ No, you're mistaken; it's the text of the nag that determines what action must be taken. For example, at 8:26 he gets the nag "Apply slight turning force to steering wheel", so that's what he must do. Similarly, at 3:57, he gets the nag "Please Pay Attention to the Road", so he must return his gaze to the road ahead. But your comment did bring up an interesting issue I haven't been aware of, and haven't seen a comment on. For both of these nags, the hands were gray, or as close to that as my deficient color vision can detect. But at 4:35, he gets the "Please Pay Attention to the Road" nag, but the hands are red; and shortly thereafter, he gets a strike. This suggests to me that you at first you get gray (?) hands with either the attention or the steering wheel nag. But after you get repeated nags, you get red hands; and very shortly thereafter you'll get a strike if you haven't cleared the nag. So apparently getting either nag with red hands is in effect a final warning; keep it up, and you're getting a strike.

Sorry about your brain injury; but you're no worse off than you were before the release of v.12.4.1. When you wear prescription sunglasses, you'll just revert to steering wheel nags. You can still rest a hand at about the 4 o'clock or 8 o'clock position of the steering wheel and get *no* nags; or interact with the steering wheel once in a while when you get a nag.
