@Kevin Smith I understand the difference, I have an AWD. :) It boils down to same hardware, nigh indiscernible handling differences, +25% more torque up to about 40mph. From there the HP gap tapers very evenly towards only a sliver of difference at 140mph, where the AWD's governor limit is. As long as you don't have an early P w/o the PUP (20" tires, brake calipers, suspension tweaks that lowers it about .4", some-day-we'll-ship-it spoiler) you'll have those small differences, too. But that's nothing compared to Track Mode.
@aoeuuaoaou
@aoeuuaoaou 5 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Smith More important question; Have you reached it, yet? ;) I've not gotten anywhere near it. No idea where I'd test it out around here, really. Breezy to hit 100mph when passing, but need a lot of room for that last leg. I've never had any car up that high, actually. I've had a motorcycle well up past that but that's a different thing.

If you want to take a Tesla on a track, you really need to take a Model 3 Performance (with "Track Mode"), which is designed for track use. Regular Model 3s are meant for driving on public roads for daily driving.
@aoeuuaoaou
@aoeuuaoaou 5 жыл бұрын
For circuit track? For the hottest of hot laps Track Mode is helpful in keeping the drivetrain cool longer. However $300 for new front pads and DOT 4 brake fluid swap, to keep from cooking your brakes, plus a set of Sunday tires to swap into, and the AWD is entirely ready for a very enjoyable track day. Or if you're switching to summer tires from all season anyway, buy a set of the Michelin PS4 tires (roughly $1100 for a set) and run those all the time. If you follow MPP you'll see what they have done with just the RWD, they've got it lapping at stock P times.

Politicians don't know what the hassle is to own and run an electric car because they don't own and maintain a car, someone else does it for them. The world needs to give up on this unattainable goal of going zero emissions because it's not practical to many people. There are environmentally friendly ways of manufacturing carbon neutral gasoline. These new carbon neutral fuels should be promoted. Not promoting electric cars.

You know about that comment where Thomas said he felt the street more in the Model 3 than the M2 in that specific corner, I think it is about the silence. Not only do you hear going over gravel, leaves, or imperfections, but the lack of engine noise also allows your other senses to feel more. At least that is what I speculate, I doubt the suspension setup really is better in the Model 3, I think its the lack of noise thats the main difference.

Looks like both are great cars, and after watching this excellent review, I get the impression one's choice between the two cars comes down to one's personal preferences of driving style. If you're one that loves the sound of a growling engine, the engagement of switching gears at that perfect RPM, that cockpit of dials and gauges, that astonishment of how all those thousands of parts work in perfect unison, then the M2 (or other fine ice cars are for you). But, if you just want to get from point A to point B is a calming environment listening to a great sound system, don't care about all those knobs and dials but still have all the functions, leave home every morning with a "full tank", get instant heat on those cold morning with out waiting for the "engine to warm up", are astonished by how just a couple of moving parts can instantly launch you with so little sound, are excited about a greener future with less dependency on fossil fuel and all the politics that go with with it, then the Model 3 is for you.

Calling b.s., Basel. Just because Elan swapped the drivetrain into a Lotus at the dawn of the company does not mean that later cars benefit from some sort of 'Lotus-ness'. A Model3 weighs over *1000lbs* heavier than an Elise - and is not seam-welded. Welded chassis' feel anything BUT similar to a Tesla. Even the M2 is in a completely different league, and it's sold as a 'motorsports-derived' auto (although a legitimate homologation M-car hasn't really been mass-produced in over 20 years, but that's another matter).

And yes, I've driven manual shift vehicles all my life and modified my vehicles. As someone who has test driven and raced in mexico Tesla's are very quick by all means but they have the 0-60 times they fall off at high speeds. Also any car enthusiast cant let go of the rumbling and screaming of a inline 6 or a V-8 or a V-10 the sound makes the car 10 times better. Turbo spool supercharger wine you name it that's what makes cars fun. Another thing is those electric cars are at their peak performance you cant just put bigger turbos and make more power they are what they are.

Have the publication outlets like Consumer Reports not driven the Tesla? So we can either take your word or that of the scientific method used by CR.

It's amazing to watch people react for sure. I have an 05 supercharged (~300hp) lotus elise and driven it for 6 years. Got a model 3 performance a few months ago. Completely different cars, of course, with the tesla being awd, instant torque, and weighing twice as much. Still, on my first AutoX last year, I placed 35/70 on a dry day in the elise (I know, I suck). Yesterday, in the rain, I placed 8/70 my first time running the model 3. The car is an absolute joy to drive, and take it from someone who is intimate with "drivers cars" - it is a joy to drive around corners. Is it the same experience as the Elise? Heck no. If I had to choose one to drive to work AND to autox? The choice is clear.

I love the out takes and the chemistry you both have. As an E 39 M5 owner I really am nervous about the future of lost combustion engine "soul" and the disappearing manual gear box. What gives me some positive outlook is that many of the top performance auto companies are entering into this arena like Audi, Porsche , Bmw etc. Musk was a visionary disruptor. Unfortunately I think once the major auto groups ramp this technology up he will struggle to compete in all facets of the driving experience. Keep the vids coming you're spot on.

This is one of the best Tesla reviews I've seen, and I've been watching all of them over the past few days. I currently drive a 2022 Civic Si, but I just spent the last week driving my friend's 2018 Long Range AWD Model 3 and it was honestly a revelation. I expected it to be numb and appliance-like. It wasn't. The steering is full of feel, better than any electric power steering ICE car I've driven, and the car handles amazingly well. The power is on another level and the delivery is very intuitive. Regenerative breaking is also great once you get used to it. It works like really strong compression braking, which I like. I'm currently searching for used Model 3's and will probably buy one within the next month once I'm done researching them.

As a Model 3 owner and with all the loyalty that inspires, while I would've preferred the Model 3 to be everyone's car of choice, I am still happy at how close the cars were. I talk to a number of petrolheads and I swear, I can't go a month without someone expressing their displeasure (tactless, in my opinion) at my purchase. "There's no enjoyment in them", was what someone told me last week. If there's one thing I wish more people would realize, it's that you can still have a lot of fun with an EV. As I myself am not a petrolhead, saying the Model 3 feels fun means very little. Hearing car enthusiasts say that it's a satisfying drive is exactly what I need to help folks keep an open mind. I wonder if Tesla would consider adding a software tweak that would allow you to choose from a number of different engine noises that would be tied to the actual acceleration of the car? Having driven a performance Model 3, while I loved almost everything about the car, I too missed having some kind of audible feedback which I, as a driver, like to use to gauge my speed without having to look at the speedo. Personally, I'd use either the sound effect of the USS Vengeance Transwarp Drive, or one of Pod Racers from Star Wars ;?D

Who tf thought that mounting the front license plate like that is a good idea?!
@aLn12301
@aLn12301 5 жыл бұрын
It's the law to have a front plate mounted in some places, most people don't like the look of a license plate anywhere in the front but they still need to have it there to not get pulled over for it. Some cars don't have mounting holes in the front bumper so you'd have to drill into your bumper to put it in the center like most cars. Cars like the M2 have a front tow hook mount that do not require drilling holes into your car and can be easily removed or installed in less than a minute. So you're able to keep it on while on the road, and you can easily take it off for a car show or taking pictures of the car.

It's inexpensive to run as long as you don't have to fix anything. When something does fail, be it a $0.50 wire in door handle assembly, Tesla will charge you $600+ to fix if it's not under warranty. And from what I hear, they'll "fix it" by replacing the entire door handle assembly with a new one that has the same wire part that's just waiting to fail. Fixing it permanently requires a $20-30 3rd party repair kit that will void your Tesla Warranty.

I account for looks, interior and other factors but efficiency is where Tesla is destroying ICE vehicles. Electric motors make barely any noise which some don't like but it's quickly forgotten when you're hitting 60 in less than 4 seconds.
