@@paulpark1170 No they don't. Well, the sportiest cars when pushing on track make some awesome engine noise, but first of all it doesn't drown our tire squealing (what a stupid thing to even think), and second of all overall ICE engines in normal use are super quiet. So much so that so many car manufacturers have to put fake engine sounds playing through the speakers into their ICE cars, and for example Rolls Royce found that their cars got too uncomfortably quiet and had to reduce the noise insulation in certain ways to get noise levels back up so that the car doesn't feel unnatural and uncomfortable. Also for example when Auto Motor und Sport tested four different versions of the X3: gasoline, diesel, gasoline-electric PHEV and pure EV it was _not_ the EV that was the quietest! The EV I owned was nowhere near as quiet as the bottom-of-the-range BMW I then rented for a few months. Same with Tesla: it's nowhere nearly a car that can be said to be one of the quietest, even of far cheaper classes. I wouldn't be surprised if a base Mercedes C-Class diesel is quieter than all Teslas, at least with the optional added sound insulation package, with which it's still a small fraction of the price of a flagship Tesla. An E-Class certainly is far quieter. Don't believe the propaganda that cultist websites, blogs, and also commercial 'car testers' spew. Remember that bloggers, you tubers, car magazines get PAID to advertise car manufacturers' products. Tesla bloggers probably all make money off Tesla's skeevy Multi-Level-Marketing scheme of customer referrals, and also most own stock. 7:35 with 1000hp and that straight line acceleration is anything but impressive. If this Tesla was a 600hp petrol car with the same weight and handling capability it has now, it would have done a 8:10-8:20 lap. This laptime just proves how bad the Tesla chassis development is and how poorly the car handles, because in a straight line it literally is quicker than almost every hypercar, yet, on track it posted a slower lap time than BMW M5, Porsche Panamera or the GT63 AMG, all of which have around 600hp and actually weigh more than the Tesla.

So after all the hype, the Plaid, rather than being faster than any ICE car, is in fact slower than most of the familiar players we know and love. Heck, you could go out and buy a big Camaro ZL1 1LE and spank the Plaid on a road course. That's a lot less money if fast is what you want. The old Taycan Turbo is plenty fast for an EV sedan, so what if you could go a few seconds faster? The Taycan also did it with far less power, because it's better at a lot of other things. We fanboys are loving it because the EV takeover is accelerating so quickly. A decade ago there was nothing competitive in the EV world for consumers. In that time Tesla has made models spanning a good part of the consumer spectrum. Now they look good, they have good range, they are high performance, they are affordable to a large demographic (not necessarily the plaid, but model 3, model y, etc. ) Now we've got a battery EV, with a back seat, tons of storage, rear screen, video game system, autopilot computer, nearly untouchable in a straight line, and puts up good numbers on a difficult track. And the cost? Comparable to its peers, and a fraction of the price of its straight-line competition. So yeah, we're pretty happy. It is heavy. Batteries are heavy. But you know what? This is the beginning of EV battery technology. In another ten years there won't be a single ICE car on any race track record list. Batteries have a long way to go... I mean that. Batteries have a lot of potential ahead of them. ICE is at the end of its life. All the tricks are exhausted and there's nowhere for it to go. Tesla should be very proud. In a decade they snuck up behind everyone and embarrassed them. That's why we fanboys are so giddy. I can't remember the last time some ICE car has made any advancement to be proud of. How many years has it been since there was something revolutionary out of the ICE community?

On drag strips you require max power from the battery for only ~10 sec and have time to cool the battery in between runs. On the Nürburgring you basically require either max power output on the straights or partial power output in the corners for over 7 minutes straight which constantly heats the battery, almost no time to rest...and when you rest the battery while braking, the car regenerates power to the battery, basically charging the battery which again induces heat into the battery.
