If you want to lighten it, there is probably a lot that could be done. Have you thought about starting with the lead acid starter battery? 4 little lifepo cells in series can replace that, either briefly or perhaps permanently. You could buy 4 20Ah A123 pouch cells at 500g each. 2kg battery. The built in one might be 10kg or more. It's unclear if the car's electronics would age a lifepo cell too fast because it thinks it's lead but you could start with just 4 little 26650 A123 cells. Those are only 73g each. 300g total. That might be too little to function well in practice but could be an experiment to see how long they live in the car.
@DanFrederiksen8 жыл бұрын
And I figure that if you have money and time to spend, you could shed hundreds of kilos from a Model S. Although those would be serious modifications. The car is a fatass with a lot of dead weight that could be shed. Some easier than the rest. But at 500kg lighter it could be a fast mofo
@Spirited_Driver3 жыл бұрын
Neat! I heard the reason the P100 is faster in the 1/4 is because it launches harder, but the MPH trap speed is an indication of relative HP output. So here we have proof that the actual output of power is close to the same but somehow the P100 always gets off the line quicker.

Have them on my P100D on a 20x10.5 inch wheel, nothing exists in stupid 21 inch wheel world. Sport cup 2's for daily driving on 22 pound HRE's and Nitto NT05r's for track.
Jas Hrizzo Love the stance of the car with those wheels/ tires. Do you know the weight of the wheels?
@jhriss8 жыл бұрын
Hey bud. Yes, these are the HRE P101's they run about $2500 a wheel but they are well worth it. www.hrewheels.com/wheels/series-p1/p101 They are suppose to be close to one pound per inch, plus then you have to add the hub, so they are 20 pounds and a few ounces and add the hub and about 23.4 pounds a wheel which is massive reduction over 38 pounds plus hub on Tesla turbine wheels. Plus let's face it, nothing is made for a 21 inch wheel besides those awful PS2's by Michelin that are slippery and hard compound as can be. Drop to 20's and you get 20 tire choices plus! Also on 21's they are more wheel so more weight but the biggest thing besides tire choices which you NEED, is that with some more added sidewall you get more sidewall flex under torsion when launching to help it conform, stick, and stay in contact with the surface you are one. If you go up to 22's to get more tire options, you'll ride like crap and have nearly no sidewall to flex. At least go Pilot Super Sport's for sure, they are same compound as the PS Cup 2's only more water channeling and far less contact patch and not as aggressive side wall etc. Hey I don't expect more than 3k miles out of the period. Front tire/wheel size: 9 inch wide rim by 20" tall diameter, with 5 x 120 bolt pattern and 30 offset. Rear Wheel/Tire Size: 10 inch wide rim by 20" tall diameter with 5 x 120 bolt pattern and 32 offset . Now for daily driving with passengers in the back, bumps and so on, run these: FRONT: 255/40/zr20 REAR: 285/35/Zr20 . Now if you want to go up to 265's in front and 295's in rear like I did then for daily driving you would need down to a 30zr in rear and 35zr in front you could fit for daily, but may rub on bumps with people in the back or parking turning in if you hit a bump. So I only run 295's and 265's for racing cause just me no parking and no bumps.

I kinda miss the manual steering, naturally aspirated V8 put together where you had to shift, not flood the engine, and sometimes beat a better car. With the Tesla, it's done by the reaction time: floor it, put the electrons, to the coils, to the wheels, to the track. All good things come to an end. I'll be getting a Tesla, while thinking about building a muscle car with an LS. The stands are empty for a drag race now. It's just a diffrent era now.
@avexusdev21767 жыл бұрын
electric drag racing is still young, i'm sure there'll be ways to tune it and make it more interesting. i mean, literally nobody is looking forward to having no customization over their car's performance over other similar cars. there just isn't any competition for tesla yet :) but i have plans to become the ceo of my own E.V. car manufacturing company, so tesla is bound to have rough competition in the future. for now, don't be too apprehensive about it. EV racing won't be as boring as it is today when tesla is actually pressed for performance against my own or another industry, its just that theres sort of a monopoly on EV technology at the moment.

This takes pretty much the excitement and randomness out of drag racing, on traditional cars that rock combustion engines, you can atleast slap some aftermarket performance parts and see if you get faster, you could have the same engine than your opponent but different pistons and that could make a difference. On Teslas, what you're going to do ? slap some lighter wheel on it ? you wont be changing the engines for sure. On tesla its like Wait...Pedal to the metal and thats it, you win if you win you lose if you lose, but on ''normal'' cars you can be like ''oh, i lost, well better go and dismantle the engine and get better parts so i may win next time''
@petea73238 жыл бұрын
Rotming plug it into 400,000 volt national grid, that might make the motor spin faster?
@Rotming8 жыл бұрын
Well if u do that u wont be doing much drag racing
@avexusdev21767 жыл бұрын
the electric industry is still young. there's still technological developments to be done. all i know is that electric and petrol are on two different calibers. when u run electric motors u really have a lot more flexiblity in terms of design and electric motors are just outright simpler than complex internal combustion engines. there might be ways to "tune" the car. Saleen has already demonstrated this but all they really added was a screeching noise and some basic improvements over the regular Model S. but when serious electric drag racing becomes the norm then im sure there will be ways to tune them, similarly to how you can modify and overclock a computer. i dont think anyone's looking forward to not being able to tune or customize their cars racing preformance.
@Rotming7 жыл бұрын
AvexusDev Yeah sure in the future when the technology becomes simpler so to speak. But even then it wont be same as increasing the clock speed on your CPU. But for now, putting 2 Teslas on the line...meh, its clear which is going to win. btw, you have alot of flexibility when it comes down to design on traditional engines, or are you talking about overall car design ?
