SAE autonomous level 4 driving is on well marked roads, in decent weather. Level 5 is capable of unmarked roads and in bad weather. To get level 5, level 4 must be achieved.

The crazy thing is that no laws anywhere in the world would make it illegal to add everything from the FSD to the regular Autopilot via OTA. It is "Full Self-Driving" that makes the lawmakers intervene. For a good reason, since FSD implies a lot of driverless cars running around unregulated, and we are still not ready for that. However, the enhanced autopilot can never be illegal, just as adaptive cruise control and lane assist have never been.

Wow! I can now have chauffeur and not worry how I'm going to pay him. A car I can hop into, say "Home James" and my next stop is my front door. Door to door service and the only thing I'd have to do myself is open the door. Plus I wouldn't have to worry about parking the car.

In San Diego, FSD has been driving me around for several weeks on v12.5.6.x in a 2024 HW4 Model Y, completely hands-free, with only 2-3 disengagements-all of which were initiated by me to choose a different route than FSD chose. It's like being driven around by a professional chauffeur, with my hands in my lap or on the armrests. It even does limousine stops at every stop, a skill I've tried unsuccessfully to master. But for now at least, I do have to drive into and out of my garage, although of course I could use Dumb Summon to do this, as well.

Words of Advice for Readers: If someone has a HW3 car with FSD and you want to keep your car for more than a couple of years then just sit tight. However if you have HW3 and expect to buy a new Tesla within a year, I would recommend taking advantage of todays deal where you can transfer your FSD license to a new HW4 Tesla before the end of the year. There is always a chance that they will drop the license transfer next year. If they perfect FSD they may stop transfers all together... which is Elon's stated intent. Then you would be locked into staying in your older car even though it might have HW4 upgrade.

As usual we have not been given an insight from Tesla on its own definitions of critical and non crital safty interventions and how many per 100km say occure over time. When we understand the definitions and the data and stats then we can assess the procress independently of Tesla because there are clear conflicts of interest here. The above needs to be shared with regulators at least and then formal certification of autonomous cars needs to be developed, tested and rolled out ( State or Feferal). This will also drive the insurance market for autonomous vehicles since Tesla can not be the only one.

Further, critical disengagements are worse than useless as an indicator of safety, because everyone who reports to the tracker has their own threshold of what constitutes a critical disengagement, and some might be biased one way or the other in their reporting. Finally, only about 200 owners report disengagements to the FSD Tracker, so only a tiny proportion of the half-million or so Teslas with FSD are represented in the numbers.

So this is super exciting news, and I can’t wait to get my upgrade to the latest iteration of FSD, as I think that Tesla has cracked the code to get us to the next level, which is a fully autonomous driving vehicle. So I’m on my 2nd Tesla, having just purchased a 2024 Tesla M/S, with H/4, and so I am super excited to see FSD get to this point, and so kudos to the Tesla, AI team for staying focused, and also kudos to Elon Musk for instructing the AI team to go all in on autonomy. So think about the possibilities here, every appliance that uses electricity, can be reimagined, and utilized in a different way, for instance, imagine your refrigerator, having the ability to analyze itself, to be able to actually talk to you, and so instead of you opening the refrigerator door, which wastes energy, you simply asked the refrigerator if there’s any orange juice left in the bottle, or maybe before you even asked that question the refrigerator has already put a re-order in on your shopping list for orange juice, and so just imagine the possibilities of what that means in cutting your overall cost of energy, so rather than making an unnecessary trip to the Supermarket, you already know what you need to buy long before you even get to the supermarket in fact that list has already been uploaded to your online local supermarkets website, and have them either deliver it directly to you or you can send the car to their pick up point, and have the car pick up the order for you. I mean how much time/energy would that save? So as you can see, the possibilities are unlimited and the opportunities are unlimited as well, and so like everyone who has FSD in their cars today, I know that you’ve been waiting a long time for this day to happen and now we are here and yes, even though we don’t all have this particular iteration of FSD in our cars yet, I know you’re just as excited as I am to see this happen. So this is truly an historical day in our story, as I’ve had FSD in my car since it’s an initial debut, and I bought in at 3K, watched it go all the way to 15K, and now it’s been reduced to 8K, with an option to subscribe on a monthly basis for $99/month, which I think is a good deal. So full disclosure, I used to be a big fan of Elon Musk, but when he went over to the other side in support of Donald Trump, and his sycophant MAGA Republicans, that was a bridge too far for me. However, having said that, Elon Musk is a private citizen, just like the rest of us, and he can spend his money anyway he wants to, however he wants to, in support of whoever he wants to, and to my knowledge, he hasn’t broken any laws, particularly criminal laws, like his boss Donald Trump has, and let’s be very clear here, special prosecutor Jack Smith’s case against the former president elect Donald Trump, isn’t totally dead, as a judge has dismissed the charges without prejudice, as opposed to with prejudice, therefore, those charges can be resurrected once he leaves office in 2028, and although there is speculation on the part of some, that he won’t leave office in 2028, I guarantee you he will leave office in 2028 or he will be forcibly removed from office. So any company that’s worth it’s weight in salt, has to have plans beyond their current CEO, and their management teams, otherwise, their futures are far from certain. So yes, this is that aha moment that we’ve all been waiting for, because I think they cracked the code with this latest iteration of FSD, and as an owner of a Tesla, I couldn’t be more excited to see this happen, and especially just before the Christmas holiday, because this is not just some G-wiz technology, so that you and I and others who have this particular software in our Tesla cars today, it’s not there for us to be able to just impress our family, friends, and neighbors, this is about saving lives, a lot of lives, and what’s more precious than that? So once every Tesla owner has this in their vehicles, we will have finally solve the driving while intoxicated problem, driving, while distracted problem, driving when we absolutely are to fatigue to be competent, and alert behind the wheel, and so a lot of driving issues will be solved because the software is available today, today, not tomorrow, but today, and so I’ve been waiting along with the rest of you for a long time to see this happen, and I’m so happy that I’m here to see it come to fruition, not that it’s the complete package yet, but if Tesla is going to launch the Robo taxi sometime next year, Tesla has to get this done, and I’m all in with Elon telling the AI team to go all in on autonomy, because they’re the ones that are getting this done, let’s be clear about that. The accolades really need to go to the Tesla AI team forgetting us to where we are today, and to Elon who is the driving force behind all of this, and I give him credit for telling the team to go all in on AI/autonomy, because that’s really where the future lies in my opinion. So AI is the promise to allow all of us the freedom, and the ability to use our incredible imaginations in ways that we can only imagine, and think about what future generations are going to be able to do with this incredible tool, and so we can’t even imagine just how incredibly useful and practical ways in which a brighter future of possibilities can be realized, and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish within the coming years, and so it’s an optimistic view of the future, but I think we can all use a bit of positive news in the face of all the negative things that has been said and done in the past, and that this may give us our greatest opportunity to look at the world differently than we’ve ever looked at it before, and I can’t think of anything more exciting than that, because so many of us have such a dystopian view of where we can go in the future, and with all the optimistic talk about moonshot projects to cure some of the nagging diseases like cancer, and children, being born with debilitating, birth defects, developmental challenges, etc. that we desperately need to overcome, and somehow we need to be able to use this technology to uplift humanity, rather than have some deranged, authoritarian, dictator wannabe turn us into evil monsters against each other through a divide/conquer strategy, which is exactly what the incoming administration leader has vowed to do, and for that reason, I am very frightened for future generations if we cannot corral this enthusiasm for revenge against political enemies either believed or perceived, otherwise, going down that road is fraught with all kinds of bad things that can destroy the future of this great country of ours. Creating a solution to keep cameras clean is a simpler problem to solve compared to solving FSD. Tesla's robotaxies will most likely come with new designs just for that.

Unsupervised will put a lot of pressure to tesla, that would mean they are fully reliable for every drive. But its looking good. Better do it in 2026 when most of the errors are flatting out. One crash and the legacy media has a field day. I don't care if End 2025 or early 2026. And i guess they now that. They want to put this out, But better save the sorry and safety is nr. 1 priority. so i think we could wait 1 year longer. Max. If you take over the market in mid 2025 or fully in 2026 thats not a big bet to make.

This FSD can drive EVERYWHERE, and it doesn't map the roads that it is driving on and keep it on memory for too long, or it doesn't have to be mapped in order for it to be able to drive.
