Tesla SNOW Mode Activation - Model Y Performance (Must See)

It’s no secret - the Tesla Model Y performance sucks in the snow. The low profile tires combined with thestrong regen braking create a recipe that makes the car slide all over the place and makes it hard to control.
In this video, I show you how to utilize track mode to give you a better driving experience in the snow. By reducing the amount of regen braking, adding full stability, and controlling the power to the wheels, you take control over your vehicle rather than the vehicle having control over you.
Reducing the regen braking makes the Tesla drive more like a conventional car in the snow - giving you as the driver control over braking and accelerating. I also notice better battery life like this because the car does a lot more coasting.
Ideally, the best solution would be to ditch the 21’s and get some 19’s - preferably with snow tires. The extra sidewall and grip would make winter driving much safer. But if you’re stuck with the 21’s, this solution will help a lot.
What are your thoughts?! What setting do you like to use?! Comment below!!
Side note - The Model Y usually never gets driven in the snow. We have our X for my wife (much much better than the Y in snow), and I have my truck. We just happened to get caught in the snow tonight because the X was in service lol!

Great idea to set up a custom "snow mode." Makes me wish I had a performance version. Personally I would bias the traction toward the rear, instead of the front. I like being able to "steer with the accelerator." With FWD you lose steering when traction is lost from acceleration or regeneration. "FWD is better in the snow" is a bit of a myth. It is true for front engine ICE cars, but not for rear engine cars. The latter have more traction with the rear wheels. EVs tend to have 50/50 weight distribution and do very well with only RWD.

Yeah it all depends on the driver I would say. Ofcourse with FWD, you risk under steering in icy conditions especially while accelerating through a turn. The “Safety” notion is that an under-steer is more controllable than a sudden snap over-steer. Now with stability and traction control, I’d have to agree with you that RWD has its advantages, as you can “push” through a turn without having to worry about torque understeer, and the oversteer is countered by the stability control. I think it all depends on the vehicle along with the drivers driving style. I always keep my truck in 2wd/RWD mode in the snow until 4wd is absolutely needed

And PS. Without my wife and kids in the car, I’m usually in “drift mode” in the snow 😂

Turning regen down will not give you more range.

In normal driving, you are correct. In heavy snow driving, I see that it does as you’re not going too fast in the snow and you don’t use the brake often. It’s mainly accelerate and coast. The regen becomes a nuisance in this scenario

It’s easier said than done. I have no issue with this, but for my wife who is used to driving a ICE car, it’s annoying and actually sometimes dangerous because the car gets in a slide when she lets go of the accelerator

It can. In fact I live north of Chicago and on a road trip right now. When the car routes to a supercharger, it preconditions the battery.

@@shou635 that's ideal conditions as the battery is in use car battery Is already hot What happens if the car is parked in the Freezing cold & try to charge 😏I personally believe preheating is a Scam because you will waste 2 hours anyway 1 hour preheating plus 1 hour charging 😏

@@shou635 Imagine if they created an Ice Car you have to Warm the Fuel Tank for 1 hour before refueling , Now imagine Engine Jumping to Max RPM to Redline when your fuel is low for a hole hour so it can accept fuel, this is exactly what tesla does

There are pro’s and cons to everything. You can say the same thing about a RWD sport car with summer tires. It’s gimmicks, cause you can’t drive in the snow. As long as you know the pro’s and cons and know how to efficiently operate your car, you’ll be fine. I’ve had no issues in the cold or snow so far with my Teslas
