Thank you for the review, it’s just nice to have someone to test out the new stuff. One thing though is that if you tune the air pressure way high up like 30psi and spray a bit further away and very lightly like a light mist coat you will get a mirror finish. All lacquer chrome needs to be done that way

The Alluminata is an Italian WWII color, it was used only on fabric surfaces, and that finish actually looks just right !

Problem is that alluminata looks like a fancy kind of aluminium for us non-Italian speakers. I believe their newer bottles actually say "aluminized," or mine does anyway.

For the record, the Gaia Chrome is only that expensive because of the difficulty of importing, I've seen it on Hobby shops in Japan and Hong Kong for any where from $12-$17. Also, I've seen it applied (by random modelers, not the official demo photos) where you can actually see the person taking the picture in clear detail. The problem is, it demands an absolutely perfect surface, doesn't even have to be black, just perfect, which would mean polishing out to probably 12k grit.

Spoons aren't terrible for seeing color, but the fuselage works better imo since it gives a more real world example of what you're going to get out of it, complete with rivets/panel lines, curves and flat areas.

Great videos man, but one or two advices - change the compressor for the silent type like HTC-20A. Invest in lavalier, and shut off this AC or some annoying fan. Best regards

nice comparison, thank you. I swiched to kcolors a while ago. the chrome is tricky sometimes, but the allover range of special effect paint is awesome. I also think that the Alluminata is fine. was is smooth in the finish?

The alluminata is more matte, it's supposed to simulate aluminium lacquer paint rather than actual aluminium metal.

No thinning of the Kcolors - the stuff is exceptionally thin as is. As for MRP, I ha and use a bunch of their metallics, and like them a lot, but none of the ones I have shine like this, and from what I understand the ones that do are fragile.

Actually I find the Chrome (right fuselage, front) the most interesting, not the steel, because it somehow creates a super interesting tonal variation.

Whats with the light color/silvery stuff on the ends of the tape seen on 60 and 61, was seen just when removing but it was then hidden witb the thumb?

I noticed that too, but couldnt see anything on the surface where it was painted that indicated that it had lifted the paint anywhere.

It's lift from the bench surface where I stuck the tape before applying it.

Hey Matt hope your well. Just to give you a tip to try! When using any of these almost watery metal metallic finishes you need to turn your air pressure right down to about 12 to 15 or as low as you can go. Yes I know that sounds crazy! Then spray from quit a distance away from your work. Because these paints are thinned so heavily they need time to react before they reach the part that your painting. Low air pressure and distance is the key to getting the very best out of them. It's the total opposite to what you do with the thicker, more heavier colour paints.

I haven't, but I've used AS-12 plenty of times. Despite being called bare metal silver, it gets closer to the look of aluminum lacquer.

Heavy exposure (like - industrial level) can cause neurological problems. Not a signicant issue for hobby use with a respirator and good ventilation, but worth treating with respect.

Straight. Cleanup...they have a pump spray cleaner that I use for the initial pass, then lacquer thinner after. It's alcohol-based though - so IPA should probably work as well.

60 Steel gets my vote and appearances tell me the gaianotes while good cannot justify that ridiculous price tag! Where do you recommend purchasing the K Color paints from in the US? I would be curious to know your take on the 2K color paints. Another KZbinr I follow did a really detailed video series on them and had some fantastic results with them. It would interesting to know if it is worth the hassle going with a 2 part paint vs what you tested with. Any notes on that or have you used the 2K before?

Hobbyworld-USA has some of the Kcolors, otherwise it's best to email them, get a modeling specific catalog, and go from there.

As for 2K...the 2K stuff I've seen is more geared toward tough, high-gloss applications, which aren't really my thing.

Very true but something to consider is using 2K for the base. Because of the strength and the high gloss it makes for a kick ass base for any chrome finish. That would really be the only reason to use a 2K in this application but I have seen it in action and it is effective and worth consideration. Something else to consider is not even a paint but rather a powder or pigment. One I have seen is called Uschi van der Rosten´s Metallic powder. Check out the tests that will pattison did, it is very compelling for sure. Still from your tests I am still convinced the 60 steel or the first one you did is probably all that anyone would need.

Also, whats the durability of Kstuff before gloss coat? I have issues with Alclad stuff(polised aluminium,chrome...) rubbing off fairly easily

It'll lift a little - not much but enough to discern where the tape was. Nowhere near as bad as Alclad high-shines with rubbing off though.

Thanks, these are exactly the paints I've purchased but yet to try out. Glad to find a vid on them. That said, do you really need to throw in the random cussing / F-bombs? Had to scramble for my headphones to keep it out of my kid's ears... Wasn't expecting that as you otherwise have a smooth, easy to listen to voice.
