A very nice viewer offered to let me try out this 2021 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. I showed up expecting a simple 400-class standard bike, but was surprised to find something with one foot solidly in scrambler territory. I have never ridden any other street-focused bike that tackles rough pavement as effortlessly as the Svartpilen 401 does. A punchy thumper, striking looks, and high-quality finishing round out this excellent little package. If I were looking for a gas-powered motorcycle that I was going to use for 90% or more urban riding, this super fun machine would be at the very top of my list.

Really like this bike but I’m 5’6 and my inseam seems to be 31”. I was unable to fit the vitpilen 401, and that’s okay because that style was too aggressive for me. I wish I could find one of these local to me so I could at least sit on it but everyone who has one is hours away from me. I know there is a lowering kit and I have a feeling that this would be a good first bike.

@@GameOn82 Very much so! For a beginner bike, as a first time rider, it is the absolute perfect motorcycle. I can tell that I may outgrow very fast, in terms of power and top end. But it has great torque and is just a pure joy to ride. After the first 600 miles (and once the first service is performed), it really opens up, since the rev limiter is increased. It is quite nimble, you can carve up streets. I have been advised to change to street tires since I predominantly ride on street but I love the look of the Pirelli knobby tires. For the cost and power to weight ratio, you cannot beat this bike!

Nice! The CB300R is tough to beat for the money. What made you want to downsize from the Z900? I ask because I once downsized from a CBR600RR to a TU250X and never looked back. The CBR was meant for the riding I had aspired to do, but the TU was perfect for the riding I was actually doing. CBR600: expectation. TU250: reality.

I haven't driven it yet, only sat on it once at a dealership. Being 6',10" weighing 400lbs I'm not used to be able to sit comfortably on smaller bikes and still be able to have a good reach to the shifter. Is there any one bigger that has tested this bike? The looks, price and feel of the bike is just awesome. And as a Swedish guy it's always nice to ride something with a local heritage. For those who don't know, Husqvarna is a small town in south of sweden where the company started some 100 years ago. Svartpilen is Swedish and means "black arrow". Even though Husqvarna Motorcycles no longer belong to sweden, but to Austrian KTM, It's still a worthy successor to the Husqvarnas of old.

If that was only the case in the US... HUSKY has a FUNtastic lineup, based on already proven KTM hardware.... and still It lacks the general Brand image and public awareness even here in EUROPE Since ADV’s are a current trend, I’m hopping the upcoming NORDEN 901 model will bring the spotlight to the Brand, which it totally deserves. And YES, I would put my money in opening up a HUSQVARNA dealership any given day... 👍🏼 Here is hopping for better coverage and sales figures in the future HUSKY 🍺🍻😋

Overall, I am very excited about it, but I still have noticed one little problem: the “balance” of the motorcycle. - When I ride straight on the road and lift my hands from the handlebars, the motorcycle starts to pull slightly to the right ... Considering that the motorcycle is brand new, from the store, I find it a little unusual that the center of gravity is out of balance. Have any of you had a similar problem? @VanBlamm
@VanBlamm 2 жыл бұрын
It simply adjusts how far the lever sits from the handlebar. If you have big hands and long fingers, you may want to set it further out. If you have small hands and shorter fingers, you may want to set it closer in. The setting does not change the functionality of the clutch in any way, only the resting position of the lever.

Looking around online, it seems there are many Svart 401 owners who can't tell whether or not their bike actually has a quick-shifter. I ride a 390 Duke. I like this, though. I'd rather have the 690.

I'm assuming this has tubed tires?
@VanBlamm
@VanBlamm 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. There are a few bikes with spoked wheels that can run tubeless tires, but this isn't one of them.

Hey man, nice to know you’re in the DC area, me too! Let me know if you ever want to sell that bike, I’m absolutely interested in it and can’t find anyone near with one, used or new. If it’s a loaned bike or a rental, I’d love some suggestions for finding one! Great video!

Hey neighbor! Unfortunately, this bike belonged to a viewer, and he traded it in to a Triumph dealer a few months ago. They're definitely not easy to find locally, since we're pretty far from the nearest KTM dealer. I think your best bet is to increase your search radius and prepare to travel some distance to retrieve one, whether that means getting a lift there and riding the bike back, bringing a trailer so you can do it solo, or having it shipped by a third party. Best of luck in your search!

@@VanBlamm Thanks for the input and the well wishes! I’ve only been searching in a 40 mile radius so I’ll definitely try searching around KTM dealers and with a larger radius. Happy Holidays!

What does A2 compliant mean?
@VanBlamm
@VanBlamm 2 жыл бұрын
In the UK, motorcycle licenses are tiered, depending on your age and experience level. A2 licenses are limited to bikes producing 46 horsepower or less. After a certain amount of time with an A2 license, you can get a full unrestricted license and ride any bike. I'm pretty sure I have that right; an actual European could explain it better.
2 жыл бұрын
@@VanBlamm Same here in Sweden. you can get A1 = 125cc at 16 years, A2=46hp at 18 and A=full at 21.

It will probably be small, but maybe not too small. Only way to know for sure is to go sit on one!

It would probably look small, but not comically small. If there's a Husky or KTM dealer near you (I know they're rare) you should have someone get your picture sitting on one

$7900 in the UK, $2k for some spoked wheels over the cost of the KTM.....buy something used instead and much more bang for your American buck.

I've been considering the 401. It's a cool bike and that was a good review. I like the super light weight. I rented a Duck 595 I think? In 2003 I rode from Rome to Monaco and back. I couldn't believe the handling. Most bikes I've had 70s, 80s, super sport 4 cylinders, and one VFR. If the Husqvarn is fast enough Imightbuyanewone.
