Are you dealing with a rotator cuff injury? If you answered yes, don't worry! Regardless of the severity of your rotator cuff injury, there is a solution out there for you. We have helped thousands of people with rotator cuff issues, it just comes down to quality education and exercises. Watch the full video as Craig goes over a sample shoulder pain case with Arash as his patient to discuss different presentations of rotator cuff injuries as well as demonstrate different movements and tests we use to investigate the rotator cuff. You'll also learn exercises you can perform to determine if and what rotator cuff muscle tendon may be contributing to your issue.
A rotator cuff injury is an insult to the muscle or tendon associated with either the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and/or teres minor muscles. The most common complaints associated with rotator cuff issues are pain and weakness. If you see a doctor you might hear things such as a rotator cuff strain or tendinitis. If you end up getting imaging such as an MRI - you may read and hear things such as a full-thickness tear, partial-thickness tear, tendinosis of the supraspinatus tendon, or calcific tendinopathy. You may even hear things that seem unrelated such as bursitis, impingement, or muscle atrophy and fatty degeneration.
This can sound scary and make you feel completely overwhelmed. However, no matter what any doctor says or an MRI report says, you have options and you have reasons to be optimistic!

DISCLAIMER: This video is purely for educational purposes. These tests and exercises are not fail-proof for diagnosing or fixing rotator cuff issues - it is more complex than this. Remember, a rotator cuff tear does not equate to pain 100% of the time. More importantly - you should invest your time and energy into addressing your functional limitations (which we cover below) as this will improve your shoulder versus searching for a label.

Ooo maybe this explains why my shoulder discomfort feels better after coincidentally adding in these rotations to my work outs! I always found it odd that breaks from exercise make it worse instead of better, and working out over time makes it go away!

Wow, thank you guys!!! I'm a 44 yr old male that's been having issues since doing pull ups with my 22 yr old son. Yeah I know, that's dumb. (Sticking and popping with shoulder flexion and sharp pain in rear lower delt, like near back of my armpit with can opener). Your video has been extremely helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I will be doing these exercises to keep healthy. Any other ideas of whatay be going on? I can't say thank you enough for this video. Thank You!!!!!

Thank you guys. That's very helpful for young patients. But would you also do it like that in a patient in his late 50's. How many isometric would you prescribe per muscle or movement. Do you also have information videos for professionals? In terms of diagnostic paths?

Hi guys! I'm thinking of doing yo had your Shoulder Program. I injured my shoulder almost a year ago, and it's still hurting, and my mobility is getting to be less and less. My doctor hasn't been much help, only ordered an x-ray, but no MRI. She sent me to a physical therapist, and I have to say I wasn't impressed. After examining me, she still has no diagnosis! But she wants me to come in for PT 2x a week. I don't see how you can start treatment without a diagnosis? Seems a bit negligent to me. Anyway, this is why I hate going to doctors. I think I am just going to start a shoulder program, and work through it on my own. Thanks for the video, and I have already checked out your website and the shoulder program!

What's the timeline on recovery if it's the tendon issue for external rotation pain? Also will bench pressing cause any issues while under the rehab period?
@ThePrehabGuys

Good question, Neil. Tendon healing time of the rotator cuff can take upwards of 6-12 months depending on the involvement and severity. This would be a great program for you if dealing with rotator cuff involvement. theprehabguys.com/rotator-cuff-prehab-program/

Great video. I have your knee program and shoulder program. Curious if you could lead me in right direction. When i try to grab other side of back with left arm almost hugging yourself style and then while still in that position I bring that elbow up in front of my face I have shoulder pain. Also pain when dumbbell press regular grip. Not as much pain on neutral grip. Thanks for the videos.

Hello Prehab guys . I was diagnosed with SLAP (superior labrum anterior to posterior)on my left shoulder in MRI scan along with tendinosis of subscapular tendon. How many days does it take to complete recovery for labrum injury and what are some rehab exercises?? Do I require surgery?? Kindly help me
@ThePrehabGuys

have you seen our shoulder program? not always does this require surgery. Typically we recommend rehab through physical therapy until exhausted prior to taking the next step.

I've had damage to the patella cartilage some while ago. I think my patella is fine enough now. Problem is, my quads are getting very weak, especially during the eccentric phase of the knee. So I am thinking this could be quadriceps activation failure. Basically the problem I am facing bow is that the quads do not engage enough which means not enough tension on the patella which causes maltracking issues. Could you do a video on that?

So if It’s a tendon related issue which mine is if I over use my shoulder/rotator cuff and isometrics help me reduce pain then it’s fine to follow up with some eccentrics since the pain has subsided because I don’t think theirs any studies that show isometrics help with rehab I could be wrong though
