Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Chewbacca and C-3PO!

It's no secret that Adam's a big fan of Chewbacca. So for his newest cosplay build, Adam revamps his Chewie costume to carry an animatronic threepio, as depicted in The Empire Strikes Back. It's going to require a bit of disassembly, engineering, and problem-solving to turn two costumes into one that's still wearable!

Fun fact: In the scene the prop department accidentally put a second right arm in the net on Chewies back, not the left one ;) And the head movement was executed through fishing wires which have been connected from C-3POs head to the left and right of Chewies weapon, so every time they filmed the back view with C-3PO, Peter Mayhew was actually moving the blaster to move C-3PO's head.

Same goes for their Kylo Ren. I made a Kylo Ren outfit that isn't perfect to the film yet is better than the one you can see up close at Disney's Hollywood Studios. It's likely due to their cast members comfortability foremost as well as the cost to produce the costumes.

It's great to see a kindred creative spirit make the things that he loves! I wanted to build my own C-3PO mannequin since forever. I stick to building simple props and models. I'm in the process of building my own four foot version of the Return Of The Jedi X-wing fighter. At the moment having no job and no space to work sucks!! Be very glad that you are able to realize your dreams and share them along with your ambition to teach. Finally something for the techie geeks that want to be creative and share ideas. It's too bad that we'll never meet let alone work together but at least I can gain inspiration from you! There's a paint that you can buy specifically for airbrushing called Spastix. It''s for recreating the look of actual chrome and is more durable than Alclad. It's kind of expensive if you want to paint your own life sized models but well worth the effort in doing so. I learned of it right here on youtube from a guy that did a comparison of the two using plastic spoons. It''s intended for replicating chrome trim on model cars. Well worth looking in to. Thank you for sharing this with us. Truly worth every moment.

Awesome work, but I don't know why you use such thick plywood for everything? much of what's done here could be done with ply half the thickness, or even pvc sheets, saving you lots of weight.. love the way you apply the weathering to the wires though, spray paint on haphazardly, give it it quick rub then just get on with it - perfect.. too many people over think it and end up with something that looks contrived. it looks easy but it really isn't; the urge to go back and keep tweaking is almost overwhelming for most... that doesn't sound quite like Anthony Daniels though?
