So the crazy thing about Barnaby is how young he is, and how intelligent, ingenious, and innovative he is, at such a young age! If you watch his videos, it's striking how well the editing is done; the original music that he makes himself, etc. He literally does it all, and I'm just tickled at the idea that he's legitimately just getting started! You're seeing interviews with the smart and successful ones who were good enough at what they do and smart enough to achieve a certain level of recognition for their talent and work. I'm sure if you saw interviews with soccer hooligans, Geordies (sp?) who act like they're on "jersey shore",, lower class cockney workmen...et cetera than you wouldn't feel the same way.

The amount of life that he puts into these puppets is amazing. Something that particularly stuck out to me was at 15:58 it sits down in his hand, and then stretches, and the whole puppet shudders a little bit with the stretch, which is such a nice detail and makes it all the more believable.

@sixtenabbot89056 жыл бұрын
Here's the thing that startled me about this: given something that Barnaby said early on in the piece, I feel that unequivocally celebrating him is a little hypocritical on Adam's part, and here's why: Barnaby's trying to patent the ENTIRE IDEA of this kind of hand/accessory puppet (search "patent WO2017207990A3"). Obviously, no one should be able to copy his characters, nor sell them. But if that patent is awarded, no one else (including Adam) will be able to make ANY kind of two hand/costume puppet without being in violation of said patent. That seems to me like "...treating something as a scarce commodity, when it is not scarce at all" (from Adam’s talk at the 2018 Bay Area Maker Faire on May 23). Maybe that's not the intent, but that's what it seems like to me.
@Hudson3166 жыл бұрын
I mean, there's a balance there, because he's come up with a new form of puppet, and there's very little to stop someone else seeing how he did it and producing them to sell without him seeing a cent.

I think it would be cool to make a baby dragon with the same "aardvark" base with an even longer swinging tail and baby-like wings showing they are too small to fly yet. Then just mass produce them and sell them to Renascence fairs around the world and toy companies and your good to go. People LOVE dragons so I figure it would be a good start.
@JohnDoe-zq1ho4 жыл бұрын
uhhhh hate to disappoint you bud, but nobody "loves" dragons, half as much as you believe. That's just for weird DeviantArt freaks, Bronies, and Furries, coincidentally all of these have a crossover with BadDragon customers. Most of the world doesn't even think about dragons lmao.

The most amazing thing about puppeteers and ventriloquists is, if they're good, the puppets take on such a life of it's own that you no longer see them as puppets. Almost like the puppeteer has a split personality and the secondary personality exists in the puppet rather than through the puppet.

That plastic btw, if it's what I think, is polycaprolactone. It's sold under all sorts of names, the stuff I've used is called Polymorph but I think it's all the same material so brand doesn't matter. I think the reason it's not a huge thing with makers is it's not patented so nobody can make much money selling it, so there's not much advertising/marketing. The plus side of that is, it's pretty cheap! I love the stuff, so versatile and easy to work with. Seriously, half the time people 3D print something they'd be better off sculpting it from PCL. Quicker, easier, and stronger.
