xjoe81x has been on the hunt for yet ANOTHER Kenmore 80 series washing machine. Not to use, but to have as a spare. This way, if one of his 2 machines should fail, there is a spare that can be swapped in. Well, he found one, and not far away at all. We went over there, hauled it out of the basement, and here it is.
After preliminary testing, things escalated quickly, and the machine was stripped down and cleaned. It now awaits service, and yes, it has been cleared of all water and will be kept in Joe's basement so there's no chance of it freezing.

Maybe the one spray rinse was an early attempt to save water. Big deal, they saved 1.5 gallons. I still don't understand why Whirlpool has the spray rinses on the final spin instead of the first where it would help remove excess soap prior to filling for the deep rinse. Of course back in the 60s they had spray rinses on both spin cycles like my machine does but the earth apparently had trillions of gallons more water then than it does now and they didn't mind using it. I wonder where it all went?
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was odd, the one spray rinse. And I do agree, spray rinse in the first spin would have made more sense. Both, like your machine has, is best. Where did all the water go? Well it's very simple, it's been tainted. You see, all the tears from the crybaby Millennials and eco-wackos, and nowadays, Karens, have tainted that water and made it salt water. Obviously like if you are out at sea, you cannot drink salt water. So those trillions of gallons are no longer fresh water and are no longer available, so we have to conserve every last drop. Because everyone knows that once water is used, it's gone and can no longer be recovered.

Since the real estate agent got rid of this machine, it’s a gain for Joe and it’s a loss for the new owners. The new HE top loader will fail within the next few Octembers[TM] that go by and when it does it will REALLY be a loss for the new owners.

Tip top shape as usual! If the transmission was replaced, most likely it was due to a failed neutral pak. Can always replace that itself as you of course know, but it's probably just easier to replace the whole thing. Agitate gear sounded VERY nice in neutral on this machine. You could even see the vibration ripples in the water, that was a cool sight! Water level switch could easily use an adjustment. Even on the lowest level, that was definitely lower than it was for the 1990 machine. Was that the neighbor Joe was talking to near the end?

Hey jay I bought a used old kenmore 70 series heavy duty it was built in October of 1992 I was wondering can I use my garden hose with a split connection so I can attach it to the cold water hose and hot water hose and run it on warm to get it to fill quickly even though it’s just cold water coming from my garden hose ?
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can most certainly do that. But it won't fill any faster, even on warm. You have one hose to start with, that you're splitting, then the washer is combining it. You can't get any more water out of that hose than it can already deliver.

You did, this is the only video you're going to see of it for a very long time. Only in the event of a serious failure would this machine see the light of day again for a long time.

Same washer my grandma had in Wisconsin, hers had the fabric softener cup as well. can’t believe they wanted “a new HE washer” when they had that….that’s disgusting. They’ll never be able to let their new washer fill while loading the clothes, or get good agitation results with 3 aggressive speeds, and most importantly RELIABILITY. They didn’t even realize that hey this machine has made it this far, maybe with a few parts to tune it up which is always needed, but the new won’t last nearly as long as this and won’t clean nearly as well as this. So sad that people think because it looks dingy and old that is doesn’t work as good or is incapable compared to “new he” junk. Glad it’s going to someone who loves these and appreciates the real washers. Was this on marketplace or where did y’all find it?
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this was on marketplace. There's no substitute for older machines. Yeah some of the new stuff (electronics and whatnot) in general have new features or do things the older stuff couldn't do. But I'll stick with a classic machine any day. The computer I'm using now is pushing 16 years old, it still works. SLOW, but does everything I need it to, and I'm not in any hurry.

My 80 series Kenmore is a step under that one I believe, but it has a different agitator. It has something that goes on top of the agitator in this one, that can be detached. I came here looking for videos to learn how to clean it properly and to see if it had some sort of an internal filter
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 11 ай бұрын
Anything that goes atop the agitator would be a fabric softener dispenser. If you're just looking to clean the agitator, you can use any method you see fit that will do the job. These machines have a "magic clean" filter which is on the bottom of the wash basket, it requires no cleaning or replacing, it just sort of takes care of itself.

Hoping someone sees this!! My 80 series, model 110.25862400 came to me used over 25 years ago. The guy who fixed it for me passed away. It only spins out water on the Gentle cycle with small loads. Being a frugal single mom, I am torn between getting it fixed if I can find someone, or getting a new machine. I am looking at a Speed Queen. I am thinking I should save the Kenmore, regardless. Any advice would be much appreciated!
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 11 ай бұрын
The best advice with the limited information you gave would be to fix it. Only the TC Series Speed Queens can compare. It would be much less expensive getting it fixed. If it only spins out water on the gentle cycle with small loads, what happens in other cycles? It could be that the drain pump is occluded, or the drain line itself. Perhaps the pump has gone bad; those can be had for 30 bucks or so, which sure beats the price of a new machine. Start calling people, and a lot of people. Even a handyman, that might actually be your best and cheapest bet, instead of an appliance repair company.

When's a wash day video of this machine. Can you film just one pair of pants being washed? What happened to your direct drives? You got 3 machines now? Can you film all 3? If it's in Joe's basement why not hook it up? Why not give it to your sister to replace that washer she has? I think that covers the basics now the washer twerps need not to comment.

Yes, indeed it does! Now, a couple things. 1. I love how you can comment like that, jokingly of course, yet you have your own laundromat yourself. What I mean to say is, you have all that and can enjoy the machines for what they are and what they can do, rather than "Jergenizing" over them like twerps! 2. Is it possible, that in the future, these washer twerps will grow up and be able to appreciate the machines for what they are as we normal people do? Nah, didn't think so.
