⚡Note: Even though the sticker on the DCFC we used said "Balanced," the display does not. It's the only 350 kW station at that location that isn't load balanced, so we should be able to get optimal charging at that location even if other people are charging. 🔋Additionally, HMG lowered the voltage on the 99.8 kWh pack, which is why the charging peak is a bit lower.

Kia is actually redefining the electric age with stunning design-those headlights; their EVs look bold and the EV9 has 2nd-row heated+ventilated seats, leg rests, a fingerprint sensor etc. luxury features. 💯💯👌👌😁😁

That curve, sexiest curve in the industry! e-GMP cars are truly a vision of the future. It's wild that the only cars that can beat Hyundai/Kia are ultra luxury cars.
@Swwils6 ай бұрын
It's only like that on this car because it's essentially two 400v packs out together. It will be different on the true 800v which is the next platform.

I've been seeing more and more EV9s out on the road. They're futuristic looking when you see them coming the opposite direction.

My EV9 Land has been excellent, consistently get above 200kw on the sweet spot of the curve on a fast non-shared charger.

That’s a pretty impressive charging curve. I’m looking forward to future generations of EVs that hopefully get some of the materials and weight down as I think that’ll really help it proliferate in the market.

Any chance you could test this on a tesla magic dock? In theory it should get full charging speeds until it hits 500vs if Teslas software is working right
@EVPulse6 ай бұрын
From what Kia told us recently, they're still working on a fix. We might be able to try it on an Ioniq 5 (the EV9 has gone back to Kia) if there's a Magic Dock close enough.

I understand that the charge rate at a Tesla Magic Dock is much slower. I would like to see a video about how Kia is going to accomodate the switch to NACS and still have fast charging

I’m used to charging my 100 kWh battery 🪫 in my Lyriq on EVgo 150kW chargers. One hour to get to 85%. The new level 3 charger is 350 kW. The slowest it goes is 15 kW during high state of charge. Much faster. At home it takes me 7 hours to full charge 🔋.

If it is slower than pumping gas it should not be called fast (imo)

yeah fast here is relative to other ev's

Why is all of the content put out about this car with the dang GT Line? I hate how car reviews try to misrepresent the product by only covering top end trims no one is going to buy.
@EVPulse6 ай бұрын
1) We have a Wind trim review going live later this week. 2) It's what the OEMs put in the review fleets. The first drive were all GT-Lines, so they tend to hit the fleets first since they're already built and Stateside. For the sake of this battery test, we wanted to test the bigger battery, so trim doesn't matter as all bigger battery models will perform the same here. 3) We'd love to test more volume models, but since we can't afford to buy every car we review (only Consumer Reports does this) we have no choice but to deal with what we're sent. Whenever we can we tell the OEMs we work with that more volume models are preferred.
@nikidelvalle6 ай бұрын
@@EVPulse Understandable, but scummy on the manufacturers part.
@EVPulse6 ай бұрын
Agreed. We try to, when we can, talk about the volume models and what not. Sometimes a fully-loaded model lets us talk about many different features in separate articles / videos. They did have a base model on the first drive that I (Chad) spent a couple of minutes in. It drives pretty well. One thing I'll say is that I like that Kia gives you all the driver's aids (the lane centering adaptive cruise) as standard. But we also agree a $77k loaded GT-Line is expensive and not what most people will get. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
@cranburydad6 ай бұрын
While they have not publicly released their sales data by trim level, Kia stated in several interviews they expected the GT-Line to be the most popular. And it is the most common model owned for people commenting in the various FB groups and on Reddit. I wouldn't assume that with this particular car that most people don't get the top trim. I also was part of a Kia marketing focus group. All but one owner had the GT-Line and everyone in the group had been cross shopping with the Rivian whose base model starts at the same price as the GT-Line before available discounts, and higher than the GT_Line in real world pricing. Only one person in the group had cross shopped non-EV SUVs. They market seemed to be people cross shopping 3 row EV SUVs.
@jeffclark52686 ай бұрын
@@cranburydadit’s only the most popular model owned because that’s all that’s been delivered so far. Now that the lower trims are finally hitting the market I think you’ll find people are not as interested in $15k massage chairs and giant solar heating roofs. I’m hoping my Land AWD (non-$10k premium) will be ready this week as it arrived at the dealer yesterday.

If fast charging is bad for batteries - why do automakers design them for this? I mean they(automakers) give a long warranty on batteries. Seems like they will be replacing a lot of bad batteries due to so many drivers using fast charge as the main option(I don't blame them). The majority of drivers are not going to spend $$$$ to get charging at home. Some will do level one charging and very few overall will have fast charging. Those living in apartments and condos or just renting in general will not likely have charging platform at home.

Most EV owners charge at home though.

Outside of work-related travel we seldom make any road trips. We also charge at home level 2 on our personal EVs. But this is information people want to know, so we oblige.

EVs aren’t good for road trips or they are? Because we do road trip them for work and they’re excellent.
