Testing The 2021 KTM 450 XC-F Off-Road & Motocross Hybrid Racing Machine

Resident Racer X test rider Kris Keefer got together with good friend and off-road legend Gary Sutherlin to test out the new 2021 KTM 450 XC-F off-road racer. This is a bit of a hybrid bike if you're an MX guy, it's similar to KTM's SX-F offering but has features like hand guards, a larger tank, 18" rear wheel, different mapping, and much more. I had an xcf one year when I was racing so cal moto, WORCS, big 6, SRA and it was one of best bikes I've ever owned.......obviously I had it setup for me but was such a good bike I am not pro and dint mind 18" rear.....it helps in offroad more than it hurts in moto

WARNING: If you run tight terrain out west like I do and run a fan it will drain your battery dead so make sure you carry a jump start pack (No Kickstarter). KTM did not put a big enough stator to support any big lights or to run a fan and keep the battery charged at the same time. I have even tried using the biggest amp hr lithium iron battery I could find. Also, needs another gear for desert racing out west as well and 1st is already a little tall IMO. I have been racing desert for 20+ years and I just wanted people to know what you are buying.

I love the yz450fx but where I live they can’t be found, luckily I also love this bike. Plenty of these dealers around me, I just have a hard time finding a good place to ride, I live in the Commie State of Maryland!

Do factory 450s really have 3 gears. If so, what do privateers have in their gear box's?

No they have 5

ive ridden a cr 250 with 4 but never seen only 3 gears

You hit the top of the second hump on that jump then looked at the camera. I think you just pounded the landing bump which made it seem weak in the suspension. Just saying. 😁

Same box as sxf which sucks but iv put a 6th gear in mine out of a 500exc and it makes the bike perfect.
