@@DEBOSFishing Initially I used a mono leader on braid to keep my trebles from getting caught up in the braid and to keep from digging into lay-downs and overhangs; then I heard it was great for acting like a shock absorber for plugs. I felt the same way about the ploppers until I finally tried them, now I'm an addict. I keep 9 different ones in the box at all times... Loon, Bone, and Blue Blood in 75, 90, & 110. I mainly use the 75's river fishing for smallies, and the 110's for largemouth. If I'm not getting hit on the 110's, I'll drop down to the 90's. Where I love them the most is along hard edges of mats/pads... great for nailing the ambush fish. My PB is off of a 110 Bone.

Hi Debo Dink Man , I noticed you mentioned you liked the 75 -vs- 90 yep I found the 90 to be not conducive to my fishing . It seems I'd have to drop down in line size and make a rod specific change for that bait , which I am not going to do . The 90 is a more slender bait compared to the 75 and produces less drag than the 75 hence the change in my typical gear the 75 on the other hand works great on my typical allaround setup. Med / Fast rod 3000 reel , 20lb brais to 15lb P-line floroclear Leader . I also use the 110 whopper plopper on a med heavy /fast rod , 4000 reel , 20 lbs power pro ssv2 or higher braid to P-line 20lb leader . As you know the leader acts as a shock absorber so I don't pull the hook out of the fish or bend out hooks ... in general.

Hey brother, first things first, congrats on 20k!!!! I run my plopper on yo zuri hybrid line. (Brand I'm sure doesn't really matter, that's just what I bought at the time cuz it was cost effective. And it's treated me very well!) First thought after you lost that biggie was "he's got that on braid?!" Cuz I've lost a lot of fish with certain baits on braid it seems like the lack of stretch bores the hook hole out to where they can just throw the hook. Fish I've landed on braid tends to have bigger holes from the hooks too. Try it on a mono or floro or just add a leader to give it some stretch, might improve hook ups and lands! Plus they hit the plopper different than a frog it seems. They're much more aggressive coming into it (probably cuz they actually chase it) with frogs the watch it for a sec and then ambush it. Either way great video, and keep grindin OGFeeshin friend!

Hey deps don't put bigger hooks on your 75 back hook like to hook is self on the rear end of the plooper. On some cast. In retrieve you'll notice the hook is caught up once your reeling in. Just feel drag. Then you'll have to reset your cast and fix the problem. I've tried 5 and 6 doesn't happen every cast. But it's any annoying.

Recently had a fish put the big ole hooks on my 110 whopper plopper through my thumbnail and out the other side when i was trying to unhook him. It was a little dicey getting that thing out of my fingernail while it was still connected to the angry fish 😳 I don’t blame you for being cautious
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
OUCH! I've never had that. That truly sounds awful! I did have my dog get a treble in her nose. She got it in my finger while I was trying to get the hook out. That was a bad experience too lol

Why do baits with treble hooks need more give? Especially for crankbaits, how come you need a rod with a slower action? I’ve heard it pulls the hooks out of the mouth but why specially with treble hooks and crank baits
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
Trebel hooks are small. Each little prong of the treble is essentially just a tiny hook. Compare that to a heavy wire flipping hook and it's easy to see which one is likely to bend out easier. Additionally, the lure is moving and the fish only have a quick second to grab it. Compare that to a jig dragging on the bottom. You feel the bite, pause, and set the hook hard. Hope that helps!
@atrain1245 жыл бұрын
DEBO'S Fishing Ahhhh!! Im all giddy that you actually responded!! Whats keeping people from putting on thicker treble hooks to do a hard hookset?
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
@@atrain124 nothing, but larger heavier hooks could pull the bait down on a topwater. It's just that treble hooks don't keep a fish pinned as well as a larger single wire hook...like a jig for example.

The hooks were fine. My setup just had no give. That fish surfaced and tossed the hook. Sometimes you can avoid it. Other times there is not anything you could have done differently. Thanks for watching 👊

DEBO'S Fishing so is it possible for a fish to toss a hook that is imbedded in its mouth really well?
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
@@megancooper3241 depends on how well it's hooked. That's why people stress to keep the rod tip down. They jump and head shake like that...they are likely to toss little treble hooks.

I caught my two PB bass, both 6.5 pounders, this spring a week apart on the same white WP75. My only problem is that there seems to be a diminishing return after using it at the same small lake, as if the bass get conditioned to avoid it. Oh well, that's why it's called fishing and not catching.
