@ Sansilan. You can’t really custom order a Toyota. Not the same way as a GM truck or Ford. Toyota decides what to build , what features and what colors and your “build” is matched against the allocations. Dealers do what dealers do and then you end up with something similar what you wanted.

I think the point is that having a nice new vehicle is becoming a luxury for the wealthy, while everyone else is more or less relegated to having old cars. There a lots of old cars that will get you there, but the idea that your average family can go out and buy a nice new car every 5-7 years is more or less dead.

One interesting thing I think this exposes is that there is a big hole in the market for reasonably priced vehicles. Im not sure how but it seems like a company could come in and take this large market. Something like how Uber did for taxis or how Tesla did with their direct to customers. Some radical take that makes making cheap vehicles possible.

so this is the next trail edition sr5, cool but I'm hard pressed on my trd off road, manual - fun kits and whatnot come after. the rear locker can really help when not in a 4wd situation (pavement/ nonslip type - grenade transfer case etc). one thing I will end up doing is true locking/unlocking hubs, mpg increase (from 10.7 to 14.2 mpg on a '97 pathfinder). real addition will be the toyo mt's, the hybrids are cute but when you need the sticky tread compound or the fording grip - you have it. At's spun on me in wet grass or slick mud and destroyed any lawn i was on (4wd in this case created divots when it would bind in turns), never an issue again with mt's. Sound is bearable, but the tires don't rot or crack on me, or the tread cap doesn't separate - lived through the firestone issue a while back. my bad for the rant, but looking at the current sr5 trail edition with what you get and don't get in comparison to the trd off road almost seems like a joke. just throw me the disconnecting front sway bar (eventually an aftermarket winch) and hopefully a pto, I'd be set.

This year I purchased my first brand new truck! A 2023 Lunar Rock double cab, 6 speed manual of course. The Taco loves off-roading with super low gear ratio with the manual and it’s probably the most reliable truck you can buy right now. But I’ve got my Toyota dealer trying to get me a Trail Hunter 😅 The way I see it, if I can have Toyota factory warranty all the upgrades I would do anyways and I don’t have to spend hours building it, that’s just more time I’m not worrying about break downs on my dime, and more time using my truck for work in the patch or getting out into that sweet Alberta / BC backcountry ⛰️ But then many will say “ But sir that thing will break down immediately just like a Ford” Ya cool story man I just don’t think Toyota would put this turbo I4 in a Land Cruiser if it meant tarnishing, the reputation that it’s had for having legendary reliability, longevity and off-road cred…

As you said , only portals or bigger tires can increase ground clearance, since that number comes from the lowest point, which is the diff. But a lift kit does increase approach, break over, and departure angles and allows for larger tires.
