You just simply buy cars you can afford. Jeep wranglers are good looking toys, they don’t loose value as much as other light trucks do. Especially, if you made modifications to it. You can buy faster cars, but with a Jeep you can’t get to where the Wrangler will. Amazing for the beach, a monster in the snow, made for the mud.

Worth noting there’s actually 2 versions of both the pentastar and the 2.0T. The only 2.0T with eTorque is available on the Sahara. If you choose the 2.0T on Sport or Rubicon it does not come with eTorque. eTorque can also be added to the pentastar (on all models I believe). In previous years all 2.0T came with eTorque and the pentastar was not available with eTorque. For 2020 there’s technically 5 engine options considering above including the new diesel.

I have to say, I was a lot more enthusiastic about our JL before the rear window exploded out the back from what I truly believe was an overheating rear defroster (the wire was melted) in 25 degree weather. Jeep refused to cover it, saying they were “not aware of the problem.” Even a short search on the internet surfaced several examples of back windows breaking without obvious external cause and at least one other report of an overheating defroster leading to a blown out rear window. No very happy that it happened at all, but the fact that Jeep wouldn’t make good on it ($1300 so far and the defroster hasn’t been fixed yet) was the real disappointment. We’re also on the 3rd windshield (our cost), which already needs to be replaced. Clearly a known problem and I can live with that, but the rear window is a way bigger and scarier (just ask the kid who was sitting in back when it happened) issue. Not my first Jeep, but maybe the last.

Not all wranglers hold their value like they used to. My wrangler pulls to the right and nobody, not even the dealers, have been able to resolve the problem. I did recently figure out that the jeep is not level, maybe due to the gas tank being full, which could be the reason for it pulling to the right. . Other than that, it's a good vehicle.

Very well done review. However I think most folks especially in the Jeep community, don't give enough consideration to the selec trac option. To me it was the deciding factor between buying a Rubicon vs buying a Sahara. Fact is...I am not a serious rock crawler. The selec trac is not just a convenience thing it is a very useful unique feature with unique capabilities. In Full Time 4-wd you have basically a limited slip transfer case, witch is great for on road snowy, icy, rainy, conditions. No binding when you hit dry pavement patches. Then of course the transfer case has all of the other normal positions too, 2H, 4H, 4L, etc, all locked of course. To me this feature was more valuable than the Rubicons 4:1 ratio and axle lockers. I opted for the limited slip rear diff and plan to install a front diff aftermarket locker. The Rubi is always depicted as having the best 4wd system (cause of the ratio's and lockers) however depending on the applicable use, it is lacking when compared to the Sahara's optional selec trac system.

Since most people are not mechanics, instead of spending $1,000s of dollars on aftermarket parts and cost of labor, if they seriously want to go overlanding, camping and off-roading, the Rubicon makes sense: All of the aftermarket parts you want, and warranty, out of the box. The casual Jeeper instead can go to whichever model fits their lifestyle and budget.

Firstly think TFL is great!Always wanted a Rubicon new design 2018-present.. Had to rent a car on a cold Canadian icy windy day so I rented a Wrangler 2019 Sahara 2.0 litre for a 6 hour Highway round trip.. One of the scariest rides I've ever driven, I would not recommend this vehicle for theses weather conditions and gas mileage was horrendous i would definately prefer the 3.0 liter Pentastar but don't think it would have helped.. Is the Rubicon a better ride than the Sahara?? I currently driver a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 Eco Diesel so I am a fan of Jeep ( note the diesel smells right through the cabin when using for long periods, hopefully the redesign for the Wrangler Eco diesel engine many issues are addressed cause they're were many, but great torque and gas mileage)..but the Wrangler had its purpose and is May be best suited in better climates been driving Jeep Grand Cherokee since 2011 first had the Hemi filling up with has every 4-5 days got rid of it for the Eco diesel. Would love a Wrangler Rubicon but not confident enough to pull the trigger.. Just my FYI thanks for the great reviews from your and your dad Tommy

That’s the other side of it sometimes it’s a lot more fun to be pushing your own gears but truth be told other times it gets pretty just that old and it’s like that Pennstar motor while it is quite reliable the 2 L motor has So much more balls iPhone even in the woods it tends to push a lot better when on trails Also the willies addition is very hard to find in a six...and I had to have the willys

How about a practical Wrangler vs Gladiator. How is the top off on the JT vs JL etc? You get to drive both. I currently have 2 wranglers one JL and a JK. Time for the JK to upgrade to one of these. The Wrangler is great but I keep looking at the JT partly for its towing. The Ram 2500 handles the big towing jobs. I hate the back seat in the JT as it doesn't fold flat in either configuration. Where does the dog sit? Goose gear maybe able to fix that. KZbin JT builds are rediculous. Everyone I have seen is over the top "overlander" or rock crawler with crap hanging all over them and 40 inch tires. Try parking that at Costco. I love the Gobi color on the JT. Also any word on a diesel JT release date? 29 mpg!

If you're planning on heavily modifying your JL, get the sport and put the money saved into upgrades

Tommy one thing I like better about the diesel over the gas engines diesel fuel does not ignite as fast as gasoline does which makes it a lot safer, and today people are too fast to get out with their cell phone and cause static electricity shocks which can cause a fire when you're feeling it up of course diesel fuel is a little bit messy but everyone should have a pair of gloves on anyway when they're feeling.

I think im going to trade in my toyota sienna awd minivan and get a jeep wrangler. The kids are getting bigger and want to go on adventures in the mountains where the van can't go.

You can still use the heated seats and steering wheel in California. I'm in California and it get 25 degrees back when I'm getting up for work at 4am.

Hey the aftermarket is vast and supports this vehicle pretty well. So certain things I can do without from the factory.

I agree that Hellayella is the best color! This was so helpful!

I have a Solar Yellow Wrangler which is very similar to the Hella Yella, and I’ve never regretted it, always been great. I will say Bikini is a fantastic color too, though, gave me whiplash first time I saw one.

Sarge Green is the best color, it’s a Jeep we’re talking about right?

As an over lander, the diesel is the only option that would sell me on finally buying the Jeep. With over 500 miles of range, it only makes sense.

yeah, the problem there being... its diesel . you know that dirty fuel

Great job, a lot of homework there. I ordered a TJ Sport from the factory before they were even on the lot... had to have the big 30x9.50 tires! Hahaha Ordered the Wife a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited (trail rated with tow package) and we had to have the tan interior and burgundy paint. A LOT OF WORK BUT WE'LL WORTH IT!

Thanks, Tommy! More choices beget more confusion. It is hard to arbitrage the Jeep menu. My '16 Silverado LTZ Offroad Crew will have to do for the time being.

For sure you know more about the Jeep Wrangler than Jeep does. Thank for this well done review of each model Can you answer a question for us? Does the sport Willy that has the same Rubicon shocks and something else that’s also equals a Rubicon. The next up Willy does it also have the LED lights also have the Rubicon extra on it?

Best part about my jeep was the resale value...listed it on kijiji, sold it the next day.
