They found the SMALLEST things to complain about. The volume knob, temp knob, and horn button are the things that suck?? Awesome looking car to me.

There's always something to complain about, whether you live with the vehicle long term or not. OK, the knobs are the same size and in the same area, but living with the car, you'll learn where everything is. You still get a lot for your money with the base model starting at $38,000.

I'd trust this any day over an Audi or BMW; Mercedes builds some durable long lasting engines however maintenance/repair cost are high.

I'm not sure but I think that BMW is no longer a car that constantly requires repairs. I know it used to be. I have a Lexus and it's no brainer that i've never been to the shop or dealership except to get the scheduled maintenance done.

Audis are great cars. I have owned two now and my second is almost at 100k. Maintenance/repair costs are almost non existent, I just have oil changed every 5k and have everything checked out, costs around $100 every time, that is it. Audi is also in the top 5 for reliability in consumer reports. Just saying, check your facts before you make accusations.

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis looks very nice and classy. Hyundai is now the world's 4th largest auto company, and most people now consider it to be a high quality brand with affordable pricing. Similar to Mazda and Nissan. But better than Toyota. I'm actually going to buy the 2015 Hyundai Genesis in August. It was sold out across 5 dealerships in NYC I've been to over the past 3 months. And I'm apparently on a waiting list of 20,000+ people across the US.

Fifthcell I'd say that's exactly what they did. Lol. I do think it's a nice car but if I were going to drop 50k or more on a car I don't think it would be a cheap imitation. I know that'll upset some people, I'm not saying it's a bad car, it does look very nice and from what I gather has been a very reliable car but it doesn't yet have the same prestige as the German cars or even the Japanese luxury brands. I'm sure it will get there in the next decade, Toyota had the same growing pains with Lexus back in the beginning.

The 2015 Genesis is very dominant looking, very sexy like a Mercedes or Aston Martin. And they're selling very well here in LA, I see them on the roads on a daily basis here, almost getting as common as BMWs and Mercedes, no joke. It's more dominant looking than a Lexus for sure. Lexuses look like what sissies would drive.

I drove this car and this car is awesome. And I'm used to drive cars like Audi A8, BMW 7 series, and etc.I was bias against Korean cars before, before, but after spending time with the new Genesis, Equus and Kia Cadenza, I realized that Hyundai and Kia are making really good cars. People need to get smarter about brands vs content, this car offers features that you would have to pay extra on an Audi or Mercedes. However, you get the best value when you buy the V8 version.
@swinglow33

I'd buy this, no question. The 'no brainer' aspect is the powertrain warranty. It more than doubles Audi, BMW or Mercedes. And you'll pay a pretty penny to have them repaired.

It REALLY seemed like you were nitpicking. As for the heater/volume knob, i'm fairly sure it is not that bad, it is not like owners forget where their radio is located each time they drive (muscle memory). Also, you used words such as "you want lexus" "it's still a hyundai" from which one can extrapolate that you (the reviewers) have a brand issue. It SHOULD be your goal as reviewers to judge the cars driving, features and ride. However, it seems a lot of that was missing and 50% of this video focused on "it's a hyundai". You address this relatively idiotic issue of brand snobbery too much. If the car is great, then praise it...that will change peoples minds more than your repetitive reminders of the brand would.

Man, 5 years ago I would've never even glanced at Hyundai, but the looks alone on this thing have pulled me in, as well as the reliability of the brand, the warranty, the awd option...the looks again.

If you go into my garage, you will see a beautiful, white on black 2015 Genesis 3.8. Who knew? One test drive is all it took...well maybe two, but all I can say is that pound for pound, dollar for dollar, this car cant be beat! Nevermind the 50 grand these TFL cats are talking about, I paid 38 and a half for mine with all the goodies you need. I know it may sound stupid saying this about a Hyundai, but this is my dream car and I'll tell you why. As a middle class working American, I don't have the extra expense to maintain a luxury vehicle. But this vehicle, and I've looked up the cost, I can easily maintain without spending thousands. Not to mention it is damn sexy and has everything I could want in a car. Can't wait. About another year and I'll be able to buy it cash.

I would buy this in a heartbeat. I buy a car for me, and not a status symbol. I don't care the badge, I want the most luxury for the dollar and this is it. In fact, I LIKE that it's not one of the big names Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, etc because I like the statement that "I'm in it for luxury and not for status" and therefore don't want to spend a premium just for the marque.

At the end of the day, I want to know that this car is going to hold it's resale value. I'd have to agree with the idea of leasing it instead of buying it. Hyundai just isn't a proven luxury brand, yet it seems to have a lot of value for the money. If you lease it and it doesn't hold it's value on the market, then you can dump it for something else. If they do well, and you have liked the car, then you have your own personal experience to make the decision to buy in the future.

I've been watching your guys videos for about a year now, and I have to say that I lost quite a bit of respect for you two as reviewers after watching this video. Yes we understand that Hyundai is not a lux brand. However instead of reviewing the car subjectively (albeit quirkily) like you usually do, you constantly point out "this is nice, thats great, but the badge...." I do agree with you about the paddle shifters though. Otherwise, I think you guys let the fact that the car is a hyundai get ahead of what a great car it is for not a whole lot of money (compared to what you would have to spend elsewhere to get the same stuff). Also, I love the sound of the v6, especially in the coupe, but if you want a great sounding engine, get the rspec and leave 120 feet of black marks behind you while you listen to the engine note, the engines are some of the best parts about the genesis

I bought a first generation Genesis last September and, far from being "frumpy" (as these guys described it), I think it's a beautiful streamlined car. I have parked it next to an E-class Mercedes and I think the Genesis is more impressive. Ditto for the 5-Series BMW, which has considerably less room inside than the Hyundai. My 4.6 liter V8 moves the car like a rocket and the sound system with its 17 speakers is second to none and shared only with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Add to this the reliability factor---German cars are notoriously high maintenance---and I feel quite happy with my purchase.

So if I must go fast and do that engine rev stuff, I drive the Coupe. If I go to a nice dinner I drive my luxury car - a Genesis. No valet guy ever says it is a Hyundai! The company is spinning the brand off now anyhow. So, you guys have rectal cranial inversion! Genesis vehicles are absolutely great.

Can we end this "$50k Hyundai" nonsense please? Hyundais are no longer the cheap, ugly, and poorly-built cars that they were in the 00s. Hyundai is producing fantastic cars that have plenty of amenities that aren't standard on many cars in their segment (Hyundai Sonata) and their interiors are fantastic. The fact that it's a Hyundai should be irrelevant now. Yeah, it's a $50k Hyundai. But they're competing with Mercedes, BMW, and Audi with it and, honestly, I think it's very close. Saying "I own a new Hyundai" shouldn't make one scoff anymore, it should make them envious. /Rant

Good review guys - in Canada; both the V6 and the V8 are only available in AWD but there are a few driving modes ie: sport mode which throws most of the power to the Rear Wheels for those who want that sporty feel while driving. If the only beef is - it's sold next to the 'other' Hyundai products, that's kind of lame. I recall when a Lexus was sold in the same dealership here in Edmonton along side the rest of the Toyota products. So that really shouldn't be holding folks back. This sedan is more than luxurious, powerful, has many autonomous safety functions and an absolute pleasure to drive. Bang for your buck is and should be a positive not a negative. Hyundai is a fantastic line of vehicles and has come a long way since its introduction to North America, just like Toyota/Lexus.

And my particular dealer has had exceptional customer service. You wouldn't catch me dead in a Hyundai 10 years ago. They were horrible. They have truly stepped up their game.

Recently moved from an infiniti G35 to a toyota prius. I had my 1st maintenance service. Yes my g35 oil change was $60 but service was FAR better. If I'm going to pay $40, I'm willing to fork out another $20 for the better ambiance, friendliness, an minor perks. Would I pay $50k for a Hyundai vs a 3series GT? Give me the 3GT. It will have leather, navi, roomy rear seats, bi-xenon, etc. Plus I get the prestige and resell value (if I resell). Just spec'd them out Gen 5.0: $55.7k 335 GT: $58k For $2.3k it's worth getting the BMW in my book. "You're comparing an 8 vs a 6cyl!" Yeah but the 6 will out perform the 8, so still apples to apples. Didn't see it on the Hyundai website but BMW comes with 4Yrs of maintenance. So, no I wouldn't not buy the genesis.

Looks kind like an A7 ripoff. That being said, I definitely see the appeal of one of these. I would recommend it to the average driver. I personally would rather go German because I'm not sure if the genesis it's as overengineered as an Audi, bmw or merc. Most German cars feel like tanks on the road and bumps, patches of water, etc don't throw them off course and with the way I drive on NYC roads that's critical.
@HarmanMotorWorks
@HarmanMotorWorks 10 жыл бұрын
I doubt that the German cars of today are as over-engineered as they used to be in the 80s and 90s. Mercs especially. That's not to say they aren't built to a high standard, but times change; the bottom line is what most companies are ever-watchful of these days especially given the value-proposition from Asian car manufacturers, which is getting harder and harder to beat. This is especially so now that the Koreans are on the stage and catching-up fast. I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it was available where I live.
@madant7777
@madant7777 10 жыл бұрын
Harman Motor Works True, but for example, Merc S class is still over-engineered as it is a higher category than C or E class. And you would hardly call the new C class under-engineered :) And just another tidbit, people that crashed heavily in a Merc will buy another one without thinking. An acquaintance of mine had the whole family on a trip, ended down in a ditch, rolled over several times and came out unharmed. The other day he bough a new one quite happily :)

***** I could see how experience plays a big part in car choice, especially in cases such as a severe crash. We've all seen the videos of the strength of these vehicles especially around the pillar regions. My in-laws drive two German autos, one of which is an S class from the 90s. Heavy, sure-footed autos no doubt, but it comes at a price, unless you're willing to stoop to the second-hand market, in which case you're generally still paying-up big to keep them running. Given a limited budget, would I choose this Hyundai over a second-hand Merc of comparable price range? Definitely yes. Perhaps I'm a little biased also, because a fair share of my cars over the years have been Hyundais (with never any glaring issues to note with any of them) - again, the experience thing coming into play. But given the value-for-money offering, it's difficult to look past them - and when I hear that in some cases Hyundai out-classes other makes in reliability and feature-sets, that doesn't help either lol. That said, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I couldn't guarantee that my garage wouldn't have a Merc in it =) - but at the same time, it very likely would contain a Hyundai also.
@ToyotaCelicaDude1

True, but some downfalls of German cars are reliability... It's true! I know people will argue with me on this but it isn't like you are going to get 1 million miles out of an Audi with less repair bills than a Lexus. That being said, where is the Hyundai going to stand... Especially how Hyundai's standards have changed in the last 20 years. I'm going to stand by reliable because it is a country in Asia and they have been in a "pursuit to perfection" scenario. Proud of Hyundai, and Kia!
@mattheginger
@mattheginger 10 жыл бұрын
ToyotaCelicaDude1 Completely agree. I can never understand why people constantly praise German cars for reliability. Here in New Zealand, Japanese cars have a much better resale than euro's as they just run forever... While the euro cars are in the workshop getting all manner of major work done.

The thing with them selling the Genesis next to all the other Hyundai's (which are cars that are not just sold for value, but very good quality and very nice designs) is that if they made a new luxury devision of Hyundai for the Genesis and Equus and had an all new network of dealerships, the price would go up up up, all that costs a lot more for Hyundai than just selling out of the already existing dealerships. Besides the closest Cadillac dealership to me is the same dealership that will sell you a Chevy Spark.

LOL. The people pointing the finger at those buying BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus because of "insecurity" or "snobbery" are the only ones who are truly insecure. When you judge others, you reveal yourselves. Regarding this car, it's a really nice car. I wouldn't buy it because the interior, as nice as the materials are, is boring, uninspired and very generic. The styling is too derivative of the Audi, 5 Series, and Altima. That's the difference between the true luxury brands, and Hyundai. Hyundai copies and tend to be unoriginal.

Cash Vargas Yes, not only that, but until Hyundai/Kia brings something to the industry that is truly groundbreaking, they will never have the same respect as the Big 3 (also Audi) and even Acura. Audi was the first mass producer with galvanized bodies, performance quattro, and really started the trend with innovative styling with the first 5000. BMW essentially created the sports sedan segment and, until recently, has continually led that market. Mercedes was the first with traction control, anti-lock brakes, airbags, seat-belt pre-tensioners, in addition to many other "firsts" for the industry. Acura "civilized" the exotic car with the NSX, and essentially pioneered the "affordable" luxury car. And Lexus brought bulletproof reliability (though my own experience woudl tell you otherwise) and they forged the modern-day luxury SUV segment.

This car still looks impressive 5 years later. It's a great car and getting used to the positioning of the volume control was nothing. Today, on the used market, these cars are a screaming deal.

I have a 2009 Genesis with the 4.6 liter V8 and I've been very impressed with the quality of the car. It's a smooth ride and with the 375 hp under the hood it's a rocket when you step on the gas pedal. Sorry that these two guys describe the first generation model as "frumpy" but I think it's beautiful and looks like an S-class Mercedes, whereas the second generation Genesis----I hate to say it----reminds me too much of a large Ford Fusion. Their overall look is very similar. But what's important is that Hyundai is building quality luxury cars at very reasonable prices and I'm sold on the brand. My car is now ten years old but I'll be keeping it for a long time to come.

Ok... ok... I get it Given the fact that it is a Genesis, truth is even for the high sticker price, it is comparable to other cars that are much higher in MSRP but not much more in value. Not sure that we gave the car a fair chance here, playing the music that grampa would play on a Saturday night to relax and picking at the volume control placement. Correct me if I am wrong here but had this been a BMW video we would be talking about the horse power, engine specs and the white knuckle experience that we would get out of driving it, same with Audi, in this case however it is a Genesis therefore let's casually mention the rearwheel option and the 8 cylinder upgrade. I don't know, I think Hunday has done an wpnderful job with this car while doing what it can to separate the Genesis line from its more streamline counterparts. Just a thought... Ps. I don't own the Genesis, did drive one at some point and was not at all disappointed.

If you buy ANY vehicle with it's "status" in mind your priorities are skewed. This is a solid car for the luxury you may be looking for. BMW and Mercedes have a pedigree they have earned in almost 100 years. So of course they do it better. Lexus and Audi are luxury divisions of companies that compete with Hyundai. People thought a 55K VW and 40K Toyota was ridiculous too but slap a different badge on and watch the preorders roll in.

The question isn't "Would you buy it?", it's "WHY would you buy it?" If you're going for luxury, there's better options. Bigger? Better options. Some Prestige, much better options. Value, even better options. I'm sure they'll sell their share, but for the life of me I don't see this ticking a single "box" on my list.
@AaronStarks
@AaronStarks 9 жыл бұрын
Jon Patrick Uh, that's the point. You're not getting a comparable car with these options anywhere NEAR the price. You'll be paying $15-20K more for a comparable BMW, Lexus or Mercedes. And the tech in the Genesis is BETTER than those vehicles.
