According to the Toyota release video, the Trailhunter is specifically designed for Overlanding. The exhaust dump in the center is specific to maximize departure angle. There is an option to have a locking compartment behind the rear seats.

@@freedompanda9438 I absolutely can’t afford one after the massive markups that will be coming on them, but I think that’s sad enough as it is. I’m glad there are plenty of obviously very well-to-do people out there like you who can afford to pay dealer markups (thus incentivizing) it so that you can *decide* to do nothing but highway miles with your Trailhunter. @@donwarner6925his point is that the tacoma will be way too expensive brand new. And with Toyotas history they’ll just ride this platform for years so why buy brand new when you can buy used. I wish Toyota would step in and prevent the dealership pricing abuse. I really like everything I've seen here on the new models. I have a 2015 Tundra with the 5.7...it's simple and will never die. The only thing I don't like on the new model is that there is NO room under the rear seats, so it really limits those with big dogs. Goose Gear makes rear seat deletes with flat platforms for frig. and other accessories. I think they could have found a better place for the batteries which is in the same dumb location as the new Tundra.

I would say that the reason that there is a pocket on the back of the front passenger seat and not one on the back of the driver seat is because most of the times it is only the driver in the car/truck so if they are going to place something back there the driver can easily reach the back of the passenger seat

Ill be curious what the actual suspension travel is on these. The Ranger Raptor and Colorado ZR2 both have 10" front and 11.5" rear. No front locking differential is disappointing. But a disconnecting sway bar is a nice feature. And then theres the fine details... Like will Toyota let you use the rear diff lock in 4H (because they dont on the Tundra). How fast can you go with the sway bar disconnected? Whats the transfer case low ratio? We'll probably be waiting awhile to get these numbers.

@@tariqsalim2222 I didn’t say no one did it. But a majority of North American overlanders would be farther north. Or at a higher elevation in the middle of summer. The rest of the world is irrelevant. The Tacoma is only available in North America. The rest of the world gets the Hilux. Which is an entirely different vehicle and chassis. And anyone who does it full time, or is willing to pay to ship it overseas is not going to drive a factory built rig. They will build their own rig.

Good video! My biggest issue is that it seems not a single channel seemed to report anything about the TRD Pro interior. It’s the ONLY interior that is shown and it’s…well…LOUD. No one bothered to ask the simple question: “Will this model come in more than one interior color scheme?” Flown out to Hawaii, put up in hotels, and it seems like most everyone just desperately tried to get as much video footage as they could, but never asked one of the most glaringly obvious questions? I’ve watched just about every release video from last week, and man…not even a “We asked but they couldn’t answer” answer.

Everyone keeps saying save the manuals, but yet you can't get a manual in any of the off-road trucks! Then they're going to say there's no demand for the manual. Every manufacturer keeps doing this, "I want a manual", "well you can have it, just as long as it's in our slowest and the least versatile of our vehicles". It's also sad to see that the seats from the Pro can't be optioned into the Trailhunter and no sunroof available in it either. Also, dear God, Roman let Andre finish talking for once. Andre is always in the middle of talking about something more important, then Roman, "Hey, let's talk about this useless feature instead." "Hey, Andre, stop talking. Let's talk about the JBL speaker, (this portion of the video is sponsored by JBL, yeah JBL) How many times do we have to hear about the most useless feature of the vehicle? Don't get me wrong. I love the content and coverage, I just hate Roman constantly cutting Andre off when he's explaining something more important.

With the new Tacoma, Toyota appears to have done a lot of things right. Probably one of the most promising things is that Toyota may have finally fixed some of the horrible ergonomics of the previous generations. That said, here are my big three criticisms: 1. ALL Tacoma 4WD models need an "all-wheel-drive" selection in the transfer case. Full-time 4WD for patchy slick highway conditions in winter is very handy. 2. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter need a front locking differential. 3. Ground clearance in the TRD Pro is adequate, but not great. 4. Biggest criticism of all--true of ALL of the new mid-sizes--the price. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter will likely have an MSRP of $60K+, a price that makes the trucks unaffordable to most of the demographic that would be the most likely buyers of the trucks. Sort of like the beautiful fancy cars of the Great Depression era--beautiful and performance-laden for the era, but only about 1% of the population could afford one.

1. No, this is a feature for people who can't be bothered to learn to drive and expect their vehicle to do it for them, take a taxi. 2. No, a front locker is nearly useless and is a just for show, bragging rights, kind of option. Locker usage is required mostly when climbing steep hills, and there will be little weight on the front axle, so there will be very little that a front locker can do to help. 3. Agreed. 4. Sales figures do not agree with you. Plenty of people are buying $100,000 trucks. I predict Tacoma will continue to sell well.

@@fantabuloussnuffaluffagus I've been driving 4WD vehicles for over 50 years. I know what works and what doesn't. "Full-time" 4WD can be a great tool for numerous driving situations. Necessary? No, but nice to have. A front locker is nice to have for very low traction situations, however, it must be used judiciously because a locked front axle will tend to plow ahead straight in very slick situations, even with the front wheels turned. As to prices, I have friends who are new car dealers. They are seeing serious consumer price resistance at MSRP's over $60K, and, with increasing interest rates, that resistance point may be $50 or less within a few months.

I like the new Tacoma. However, I feel that Toyota should of done more with the Trailhunter to further differentiate from the TRD Pro. Other than the shocks, snorkel, exhaust, interior, bed utility bar as well as a longer bed, the Trailhunter is, to me, very similar to the TRD Pro in terms of options. What Toyota should of done with the Trailhunter, is add an ARB front steel bumper that's winch capable or with a winch already installed, an extra 2-3 inches of lift, front locker, full underbody skid plate, and 35 inch tires. That would truly make the Trailhunter the top of the line Tacoma and differentiate it from the TRD Pro.

One big issue with these "off road" trucks are the plastic front bumpers. Your not going to add a winch with a plastic bumper and the first time you hit something that does not agree with the approach angle (Tommy's demise), you will probably break some plastic. Very nice refresh overall but I believe the aftermarket will need to fill the bumper gap to complete these builds.
