Nissan Frontier, proving a 16 year design can do almost anything that is sold today in it's class. It's almost like an insult to the rest of the class the longer it stays in production lol 😂

I know! It's almost a shame they are replacing it. It continues to outsell the ranger which is brand new for the US. And even was a super old design, it still has very comparable horsepower and torque to class leading Tacoma. Honestly all it needs is trail control like the Tacoma and ranger and is every bit as good.

@@andrewh86sd The frontier is the best bang for buck truck in my opinion. It's a big middle finger to the ZR2 and the Rubicon, and for nearly half the price. I'd use my saved money to turn it into a 400+ Horsepower supercharged zr2 destroying beast. It really is one of the best trucks you can buy.

@@jacobremillard if you wanna make a frontier powerful You can swap in the titan v8, cams, exhaust and a tune would easily put you at 400whp or so. @@justsomegarage yeah, true! But I didn't V8 swap my 2010 Frontier Nismo Kingcab 6 Speed Manual Transmission, it is still V6 4.0L but Supercharged! I have a pretty nice set up on the truck, I have a Stillen Supercharger (screw gear type) I have a pretty nice after market Intercooler, and a aftermarket Oil Cooler (replaced my OEM Stock Nissan Oil Cooler) Radiator is also After Market, more performance than the OEM Nissan Stock. I got silicone rubber radiator hose, if you want your truck to perform better then it's cooling system has to be working great and runs much cooler than it is before. I have the best exhaust headers the best that I can find available in the market. I got Volant Cold Air Intake, Magnaflow Catback Exhaust (with Deleted factory OEM resonator, and Muffler only, and also I deleted Cat converter!) I got racing type Spark plugs, and racing type high pressure Fuel Injectors on all 6 cylinders. Before the setup modifications I dismantle the 4.0L V6 and took out the Cylinder block and I brought the block to my buddy's machine shop and we did some cylinder Rebore, I added extra diameter hole on the bore so I can use a little bit bigger Piston, I'm no longer using a factory OEM Nissan Piston, it's an after market now. Pistons is upgraded much more rugged than the OEM Stock. Piston rings, Piston Rods, bearings are all after market and racing type. After modifications my truck made 600hp and 548 ft/lbs of torque and I got freaked out and my buddy and I lowered it down to 398Hp and 401ft/lbs. I don't want the Engine to blow up! My truck is supercharged, and moded I'm smoking some Subaru STI's, Mustang and charger and even camaro's on the road.

I’m thinking of buying Pro-4x 2019 too. In Canada they’re going for low to mid 30’s which is awesome. How’s the highway driving at high speeds ? @@Charnjotgill01 I am frrom Ontario Canada and the lowest we can get them here is about $39-41,000. Low 30s is a great deal! I get up to 140 very quickly and it sounds beautiful. She is definitely very thirst though as you stated. That is the only downfall in my opinion but not enough to turn me off of it.

I have a feeling this new 9 speed wont be for several years. You don't need 9 or 10 gears anywayz, its a sales gimmick. I think a good 6 speed would be fine for the Frontier. I think the thing holding the frontier back wasn't the lack of a front locker, it was the tires. If they were to take the same shoes from the Rubicon and put it on the frontier, it would have made it up no problem. Nissan starts with inexpensive tires and then individuals can buy whatever pair fits them depending on what they're going to use it for. Not everyone wants off-roading tires right out the gate because they're hardly ever going to use it for that.

@@jlara3252 the Toyota 4.0 makes good numbers on paper, the problem is that those numbers occur well above 4000 RPM. I saw a Dyno chart of this motor, and at 2000 RPM's make about 150 horsepower and 150 ft lbs of torque. Basically four cylinder numbers.

A lot of it might have to do with Jeep only providing Rubicon models for testing, because that's the package they want you to buy. Reviewers, especially reviewers like TFL who are provided early access demonstrator models dont usually get much choice in which package they get to review, and it's almost always going to be the most expensive package the manufacturer offers because the review is basically an advertisement for the vehicle.

I never did 'hate' the truck, I did however get really tired of the old and dated V6 and always wished that the 4.0 litre engine and automatic transmission combo would be better on fuel. Now that they ( Nissan ) have come out with a new engine and transmission,...I will be taking another look at the 'new' Frontier within the next year,..God willing and this pandemic! P.S. Now the key is 3.69 gear ratio. My 2018 does not have that low of a gearing. It came with 3.35 and manuals came with 3.55. The 2020 is already geared to what I’m swapping my gears for. In the last several years I have owned a Tacoma TRD Off Road and Silverado 1500 4X4. I enjoyed driving those trucks too, but I much prefer the Frontier for my mixed use driving needs. I just bought a used 2007 Frontier 4WD, and this video answered one of my biggest questions: how the Frontier's independent front suspension compares to a solid front axle. The good: better ride in general on uneven terrain; the down side: not quite as good at extreme rock/obstacle crawling. And it also illustrated well the limits of a non-locking front differential. (My truck also has Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A P265-70R16 tires (approx. 30.6" diameter, 16.6" tread width), so those are solid all-purpose tires.) This is exactly the information I was hoping to find today on KZbin: a good video that gives me an indicator of the practical outermost limits of my new ride in the hands of an experienced driver. Granted, my '07 doesn't have that shiny new 3.6-liter V6 or the new trannie, but it's still a really good resource. Thanks!

Look, guys, I do love your videos and these mismatch videos are always fun but come on. The Nissan is not in any way all new. Yes, it has what will be the future engine and transmission but literally everything else on the truck is 15 years old. And seriously, no one is cross-shopping a Gladiator Rubicon and a Frontier, even if it is the Pro4x. I'm not a Jeep guy but I have great respect for the factory capabilities and let's face it, nothing on the market matches the Rubicon series products for factory offroad capability. So anyone considering going hardcore off roading without doing any mods ( no one) has only one choice. The others who buy Jeep are just poseurs who dig the aura and cool factor Jeep products offer. Which is why they can get away with selling a product like the Wrangler and Gladiator for the prices these vehicles command to people who will never get them dirty. People buying the Nissan are usually looking for a hardworking, reliable truck that gets the job done. And these little trucks do just that. They are more than capable enough to get ninety nine percent of owners anywhere they are actually willing to risk their truck. The Pro4x will get you a bit further down the trail but that's not why most people buy them. Again, there's a little poseur factor in any beefy looking four wheel drive plus the Pro4x package does get you a lot of goodies for the money above the other trim levels. Now, after seeing this line mentioned in a trillion (yes, exaggerating) videos please understand that the only people who even mention "hard plastics", much less complain about them, are auto reviewers and people who don't intended to get their trucks dirty. Real people don't care. Yes, they notice but it's not a big deal. Especially when the price starts escalating. And while I'm whining let me ask. What the hell is the deal with the fake longing for manual transmissions? I ask that because on every car review channel the hosts act like their mother just died when they find that another brand has eliminated the manual option on one of their cars. But somehow they themselves virtually never have a manual trans equipped version of any of their test vehicles even when it's an option AND they purchased the vehicle themselves so they could have transferred or ordered it in even if one wasn't immediately available on a local dealer lot. You guys made special mention that the Nissan isn't available with a manual and acted like that was a fault but you bought an automatic Gladiator Rubicon when you could have had the manual. Look, manufacturers don't provide options that people CLAIM to desire because in the real world not enough people actually buy what they claim to desire. Manual transmissions chief among those pretend desires. I'm not just singling out TFL. Almost every car or truck channel bemoans the lack of manuals and then has a fleet of personal and review rigs that offered a manual that they didn't buy or request when they had the option to do so. Put your money where your mouth is or stop with the "I wish it had a manual", B.S.

Please Keep it apples to apples, and compare a Gladiator that’s close to the same price as the Frontier. Not all of us can afford the Rubicon.

Exactly, but they would be more similarly equipped and it would be much harder to justify getting the jeep over the frontier without the sway bar disconnect, diff lockers, amd tires of the Rubicon. Now you have a truck with a terrible break over angle because of having the wheelbase of a bus that now has a worse break over angle since it rides lower than the Rubicon. Not to me tion price difference.

@@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix a comparison isnt really a comparison unless you compare 2 different things, frontier vs gladiator is just as valid as gladiator vs zr2 and tbh 90% of gladiators and zr2s wont see the rocks the frontier probably will because its a tried and true work truck and many people who buy it offroad it daily to their work site or on their farm

I have a stock 2018 Frontier Pro4X with 90,000 miles on it. I am very happy with it . I back country camp and explore in the Southwest Deserts. The truck is very capable. I have considered beter off road tires but I don't want to loose highway mpg. 18 to 20 mpg on the highway . 15 mpg off road. The 20 gallon tank is nice in Death Valley or Big Bend National Parks.

It's hard to beat that Rubicon in any guise, but it would have been interesting to know how a similarly priced and equipped Gladiator would have done. This was supposed to be Gladiator versus Frontier, and it actually just ended up being an advertisement for how badass the Rubicon package is for an extra $20,000 over the pro4x.

What are we watching? A Nissan doing almost the same results offroad as a more expensive overpriced Jeep? Too bad, Nissan didn't update yet the Frontier with the Navara's facelift. Can't understand that.

@@RogerM88 the new american one wont share anything with the current navara its going to either use the current chassis reinforced or a shortened titan chassis with an all new body and interior, the navara is both too expensive to import to america and redesign to make viable for the american market, and doesnt offer the things the american market wants in a truck like dependant solid rear axle and a true 4wd system and decent towing numbers

@@c0ldyloxproductions324 if Nissan imported the Navara it would be cheaper actually, cause you don't need to develop a new product just to be sold in one market. The Navara also uses a V6, with towing numbers almost the same as the Frontier. The Navara it's also a more newer product, with modern interiors. The Navara as a solid rear axle and the same 4wd plataform as the Frontier, with a rear locker. Basically the Frontier it's an old Navara model.

I couldn't care less about bells and whistles, as long as the drive train/power plant is strong and the sound system is good, the inside can stay in 2005. My Frontier has been good to me. If I don't get a Toyota I'm sticking with the Frontiers. Fun, fast, easy to drive.

Funny thing is the Porsche 911 and G-Wagon are evolutionary vehicles and no one complains about that. Granted the Frontier literally hasn't changed much, but it works, so why fix it? I think people are just too impressed by gimmicks vs reliability and effectiveness.

@@gutteherr Might be of the type that cuts power when the driveline comes under strain and the diffs still stay open, by the looks of it. Had it had a BLD, the unloaded wheel would have stopped spinning and the loaded wheel would have gotten the power needed to move him up the hill. Its not as useful as a locker by far, but they have been around for many years, and mine at least on my old 2017 pulled me ahead almost as well as a locker.
