Titan swaps are pretty common on 2nd gen Xterras and Frontiers. It gives you beef your front end components, so you're less likely to break a CV or tie rod.
@TheSmittysGarage2 ай бұрын
@mr2gud2u actually, people are breaking CVs more after Titan swapping because they are using cheap QX axles. It's less common for people to break stock R180 axles in stock modified form. Factory OEM CVs are the strongest most cost effective option.

I would bet that my 2024 Colorado zr2 with 2.7 liter turbo 4 cylinder engine could easily keep up with your Nissan frontier in most trails. It is a beast. I replaced 32.6" tires with 34.2" bfgoodrich ko2 all terrain tires. So wirh factory 3" lift and the taller tires it is very capable of tackling tough rocks trails. Let's go up ontop of flag top above harrisonburg,va and see how good your Nissan frontier can tackle the trail I went down 3 weekends ago. It took me 2 hours in the fog after sunset to make it down off the mountain.

As a 19 Pro4X owner going on 4 years driving in all conditions, the difference between a Frontier and a Tacoma really just comes down to preference just like choosing between a Silverado or a F150. I’d go with the Nissan, but of course my opinion is a little biased. The power plant in mine, 19 and prior - the 4.0 was around for over 15 years and considered one of the most reliable engines on the road. The new 3.8 is proving to be great as well over the last couple of years. Glad to see the Frontier getting the attention it deserves as of late.

Usually I would have to look through dozens upon dozens of forums/reddit to see what people say, and we all know how ANNOYING that is. Great video!

It's nice to see Nissan Frontier showing what it can do. There has been too much obsession with Toyota lately. I was looking for Nissan videos and found that Chris Forsberg built a Titan and a couple of Frontiers. The Titan swap by Chris Forsberg explained that it gives the truck a wider wheel track (more stability), more wheel travel (better articulation), stronger suspension components, bigger brakes, and bigger tires for more ground clearance under the diff. The Titan swap can also include taking the V8 from the Titan and putting it into a Frontier for increased performance. A Titan swapped Frontier can have the capability and performance of a Ranger Raptor but at a fraction of the price. In Australia, a Nissan truck was the first to cross the Simpson Desert and is considered equal or superior in quality/ability to Toyota by some offroad enthusiasts.
@rhdjdmda62 ай бұрын
I like Nissan trucks. But Toyota has been the talk for a reason. Nissan keep dropping the ball over and over with their truck lineup.
@aerynlovell47542 ай бұрын
@@rhdjdmda6 I don't think Nissan has dropped the ball. They just haven't gone as high tech with their trucks as Toyota and the other manufacturers. But recently Toyota had massive recalls because when you push technology sometimes you make mistakes or have production issues. Nissan has been ridiculed for using old technology and not updating the look and technology in their trucks. I think it's better to experiment with technology in a sports car because it's a toy or a pleasure vehicle. A truck is used for work and needs to be reliable. So I want 10 year old technology in my truck because it's been torture tested, it's proven that it works, and when it breaks replacement parts are easy to buy from any auto supply store. If you take your 4X4 off-road then you will break something and the more high tech your truck the more difficult it will be to fix and you may have to wait for a replacement part to be shipped to you.
@TheSmittysGarage2 ай бұрын
Chris Forseberg is leaching off the Titan swap idea from 20 years a go. It's nothing new. The components are also not beefier unless you swap to a M205. Also, Brennan from Driven Desire fathered the VK swap.
@aerynlovell47542 ай бұрын
@@TheSmittysGarage The Titan is a heavier truck than the Frontier, so obviously, the suspension components will be "beefier" or stronger to handle the off-road abuse from the heavier Titan. I don't know who pioneered the "Titan swap" or who is leeching off of who. But since Chris Forsberg has a relationship with Nissan through his racing team, he was able to modify a Frontier, and those changes were incorporated into the Forsberg Edition Frontier. He recently installed a mid-travel suspension on his race truck with a Deaver spring under kit. In 2022 he built a "concept Frontier" for SEMA with a complete Titan swap including the V8 and complete drivetrain into a Frontier with a carbon fiber widebody kit that has wheel openings big enough for 35-inch tires. The ability to put a V8 into a Frontier gives it equal or superior performance to a Ranger Raptor. His relationship with Nissan means that hopefully a future Frontier could be offered with a mid-travel offroad suspension and other performance parts.
@TheSmittysGarage2 ай бұрын

So, All Dogs Off Road themselves did a video where they compared front suspension travel for various shocks on the stock frontier platform as well as an extended travel shock with their aftermarket upper control arm to prevent coil bucket contact and they got a little less than 6.5 inches on the stock Pro4-X Bilstein. They got 6.5" exactly on a Bilstein 5100. 6.75" on a Koni 82 and 7.25" with a modified upper control arm and a Fox extended travel shock. And the supposedly mighty Titan swap netted a spectacular total of, umm, yeah, 7 inches. Now, there is more potential than what the guy in the video showed but part of the problem is that the mounting point for the shock on the lower control arm is pretty much in the exact same spot on the Titan lower control arm as it is on the Frontier so the motion ratio is the same. You have a longer radius by a total of 1.5 inches per side so you can go a little more droop with the right UCA and longer shock but it really isn't the same as a true long travel suspension designed to make the most of the extended lower control arm length. Yes, if you do it just right, all things being equal you might get an honest 8 inches of wheel travel versus the 7.25" you can get from an UCA swap and extended travel shock. On ADO's website the complete Fox extended travel kit is $2350 while the kit for the Titan swap is $3200 not including the lower control arms and the CV axles as well as a few other needed parts. You decide if it's worth it to you but if you start measuring the actual performance of a lot of aftermarket suspensions you'll find that most of them offer little more than a different feel but not always a lot of extra performance if not sometimes decreasing performance. For example people put heavy duty springs on their trucks and limit the up travel and think they have improved the truck. They have in a way but not in wheel travel. It's always compromises.

Love my 18 Titan pro 4x. Those new frontier are tempting. But i bought my Titan loaded for what they want for a stripper frontier now. Both nice trucks but nah. Next truck will be another Nissan. They are by far the best value. Excellent trucks.

I never really understood offroading just for the sake of offroading. If I'm offroading its driving on the lake ice and blasting trough big snowdrifts to go icefishing or swamped out beaver blocked roads for hunting. Going over rocks and trails like this just for fun looks like banging up your truck because youre bored

You can tell it’s early in his off roading with that truck as there’s still the front license plate bracket on the lower front bumper. That’s usually the first thing to go!😂

ive got mine with a dana 60 rearend and a dana 60 straight axle its a 2023 coil over suspension no leafs. 37 tires and 24 and a half tire travel. rides better than stock. was a little costly but worth it.

Gen2 20-21 frontier with the new motor and tranny and a Titan swap is the perfect budget way to go.

I love my taco but if I was forced to buy a truck today 4th gen taco vs these new gen frontiers, and couldn't get a manual, I would definitely buy one of these or a ranger.
