The Hemi isn’t working as hard, and likely makes up for its overall displacement with a more efficient A/F ratio at the load it was. The 3.5L TT would be producing the same power up the hill as the RAM, but due to working harder would probably be running a richer A/F, using slightly more fuel.

It's really not surprising. The EcoBoost has had far worse than advertised fuel economy since the day it's been released. It's quite simple; a small, turbocharged engine has too be under much more load and turn higher rpm to produce the same power and torque as a larger engine, and thus gets worse fuel economy.

To me the fuel economy being identical means both vehicles were underworked. Tow offs are IMO a more productive use of time. Can accommodate 2 vehicles at once, 1 shoot time. (not including the chase/camera vehicle) You said(Roman)in a previous video you felt this was a lot of work. But I would imagine if time out the effort, it is faster over all to do 2 at once. Posting a mash up makes for more interesting content. Viewers can compare and discuss which they thought was better on the run. For the money, to do this exact thing, I would choose the TRX. :)

Hey Andre, I've mentioned this a couple of times on RAM videos but if you go inside of screen setup there is an option that says current gear. it's defaulted to off, if you change it to on it will always show you the gear the transmission is in without having to go into manual mode!

Reality is, it’s not a bad tow vehicle. Wide, heavy, big power, big brakes, extra cooling... Needs mirrors

More tow offs & more traditional towing. I guess what I'm saying is, more towing, for any reason

Interesting MPG results. Might the Raptor’s lesser efficiency come from working harder? Smaller motor, higher RPM’s
@redjonnyboy00
@redjonnyboy00 3 жыл бұрын
That's what I think, it probably has to use alot of boost the whole time, I have a second generation too I noticed wind and any hills that make the truck spool the turbo, kills MPG

4:10 gears don't help
@bjmcdole6294
@bjmcdole6294 2 жыл бұрын
@@codyramos3200 Don’t forget it’s a 10 speed transmission. The gear ratio isn’t ideal for towing but that’s not it’s intended purpose. Quick acceleration, torque is and why the Raptor has a 4:10 ratio. If the Raptor had 3:73 gears like most ideal F150 tow packages, it might get another 1-3 mpg. Having 34.6 (35’s) and the power it does with a 3.5 V6, it does an awesome job as is. Both trucks are nice and both have plus/ minus to them.

Andre, you can setup the TRX’s cluster screen to add the option of showing what gear the truck’s at, it is available, maybe you guys just have it off.

The fuel maps that optimize power and emissions under high load for the ecoboost do run quite rich, using effectively the same or more fuel than a larger displacement forced induction engine that runs leaner at relatively less load (assuming the operator demands the same average power for both scenarios). If both of these trucks were unloaded in city/highway driving with light acceleration, you would get better mileage with the raptor as both wouldn't be under much load and the raptor has a smaller displacement engine with lower friction/pumping losses (not much point to this, as the people that buy these types of vehicles drive inefficiently and tow).

The 4.6 from the factory is stupid lean. I think the AFR command is almost 15 in those trucks. Ford can't seem to get it right. The v8 sips gas while the v6 guzzles it.

@@TFLtruck - Use your paddle shifters to set the truck into 8th gear, the display should indicate what gear it actually is in next to it. Took me a hot minute to figure it out. However, once you shut the truck off, it goes back to its normal display. Been able to do it on mother's 2015 1500 EcoDiesel for a few years now using the gear +/- buttons.
