I live in Dillon and have a jeep Mojave. I just got a horse and have learned the Mojave can only tow 4500 lbs. so I’m trying to decide if I have to trade it in. Any suggestions on a truck that will still be fun like the gladiator for trails in the mountains and tow a two horse trailer in the mountains ? I’m guessing 7000-10000 lbs will be needed. Google keeps showing me the f-150 but the raptor looks like it might be more fun like the gladiator ?

Great video, enjoying the comments with people complaining about a Ram bias. Great video, and informative. As you've said in the past the Raptor is in a class of it's own, but people should know it comes with compromises and that is lower payload and towing. The Rebel isn't quite as good off road, but it is a better balanced truck since most of us aren't offroad all the time. I think you highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each truck. Looking forwards to future reports on the Rebel's mileage. Keep up the good work.

@@benjaminwayneb I agree. I think the Ram would take it. The payload and towing is comparable now that Ram has increased their numbers. The Ram interior is so much better. I think the motors are pretty much a draw. Ford really needs to spend some money on the F150 interior.

@@benjaminwayneb I have a 2015 and it's been fine under a load. I've run it though the mountains towing my travel trailer. Like any truck you need to watch you temps and adjust your driving to the conditions. The payload and towing on the new Ram is higher than my 2015. I've been looking at new trucks, and right now all the trucks are in the same ball park for towing and payload on a 4x4 Crewcab short bed. The ford can have better numbers, but that's a special order truck and If I was going to tow over 10000lbs on regularly I'd buy a 1 ton. I like the Ford and Ram, but if I was buying I'd buy another Ram. I find it rides nicer, the interior is much better. I'm looking forwards to seeing what the TFL guys get in mileage with the Etorque. My co worker has a 22015 Ecoboost and he does get slightly better mileage than I do, and both trucks are quite comfy. Not sure I like the styling of the new Ram. The Raptor is the technical victor, but a simple manual gear selection would rectify that issue in the Rebel, which any serious towing drivers should 1) be cognizant of for the given tow vehicle on how to operate 2) understand the reason to select a certain gear given the conditions at the time, be it driving hilly ups-and-downs, steep downhilll, or steep uphill.

In the raptor you had the right rear window down for the noise test, not really a fair comparison there. I disagree the Ram is better for towing...just by the legal rating it's arguable but the real world test showed the Raptor went up with loads of power to spare, the Ram did not then the Raptor was clearly better going down so your conclusion is highly suspect.

Maybe u should try underhooking the trailer chain hooks like you should be doing by law most states all require underhooking and overhooking them is actually illegal in most states and they can actually fine you for it so just saying maybe that the raptor will hook right up and come off if you try underhooking them instead of the overhooking. (Truck not floored, mostly taking it easy at about 40 MPH.. but still working its ass off)

7:20. I don’t know so much about that. We put 5,000 pounds behind our 1997 Ford F-150 Extended Cab with 6 people in it no problem. Handles it like a dream. I see no reason as to why you couldn’t do it with a truck that’s 22 years newer and double the horsepower.

Yeah but the raptor is essential an offroading or race oriented F-150 variant. It makes sense that it isn't optimized for towing. I am sure the new F-150 trucks can outperform the Rebel. I would have to agree with you both for a swiss army knife truck that can tow, haul family and gear and still go off road (not all 3 at the same time of course haha) the RAM REBEL is the winner (or Chevy LT Trail Boss, GMC Sierra AT4) in doing all 3 well. The Raptor did great though for what it is, but has its limits as you two stated when it comes to trying to tow and haul more than two people with that kind of weight would be fine with a 5k lb trailer. Ok so, a couple of problems with this video. But first off before a say anything else. The Ford Raptor and the Dodge Ram Rebel are NOT in the same class, not even close! The Ram Rebel compares more to the Chevy Silverado Z71 or the Ford F150 Fx4. The Raptor is in it's own completely separate league. What the Ram Rebel essentially is, is just a normal 1500 on coilovers and air bags. Other than that there is nothing special about the Ram. The reason the Raptor doesn't tow as much is because of it's specifically offroad suspension. As I mentioned before, not a normal everyday truck like the Ram. But i'm obviously not telling you something you don't know. What doesn't make sense though. Is that the Ram got the same MPG's and time as the Raptor. When the Raptor was at it's max towing rating, and the Ram still had several thousand post to go. Not only that, but it also had to break the most out of the two, again while the Ram not towing max. So how did it win when the Ram did the same in one segment, and did WORSE in the other segment? That makes no sense what so ever. I honestly can't wait to see when you max out the Ram. Because if it did the same or WORSE as the Raptor. With still several thousand pounds to go. Then it's probably gonna do terrible with max towing. Might have to floor it all the way up, and break 10 times on the way down. Look, I understand that you are excited about your new truck. But that doesn't mean you should say the other is worse, just because you got the competitor. In other words, don't be bias.
@grgoss16 жыл бұрын
Well said. And I would flip the argument around too. Put 3 or 4000 lb trailers on and do a side by side comparison. Watch raptor clean up. And ya, everyone understands that if you want to tow heavy, get the dodge.
@grgoss16 жыл бұрын
I would add, I don't mind they tested the raptor against the rebel. I get the raptor is an offroad beast and not really set up for towing, but if I get one, I will be using it as a daily driver, for towing light trailers (under 5000 lbs), for carrying some loads to the dump, for some light 4x4 (not bashing and abusing it, but using it) and for gravel roads. It wouldn't be parked in a garage and only used on high speed offroad days, so the info is helpful. Based on everything I've seen, would love the raptor with the sole exception being the wider track on tight trails and the dumb fake exhaust tone.
@bobclark63505 жыл бұрын
Because both vehicles were able to hold 60 mph going uphill I'm not surprised that they did it in the same time. In other words, even if you had all the power in the world you would still make the same time because you can't go faster than 60 mph. So, the only exception was the acceleration part in which case one might argue one truck should have been faster than the other which is where I might argue that the Ram should have been a little faster since not at max payload. But max payload is more of a structural rating (tow ratings do not give an effective speed range) keeping in mind that the Ram also has less horsepower/torque.

What about the fact the raptor is $20k more than a Rebel? Many Raptors are over $70k.

A couple takeaways, look at Borla ATAK for the rebel if you want to really hear the hemi. Towing uphill at 60 should yield the same time in both trucks aside from the acceleration at the start. I feel that setting the cruise control to 60 and measuring the amount of gear shifts would give a better representation of how hard the engine is working. Going downhill the gearing of the transmission plays a big role with the tow/haul mode. The engine will try to set it to the gear that gives highest efficiency, but with 10 gears the range that the raptor can run at is much more defined, so 60 could sit right in 3rd with the RPMs while in the rebel the RPMs would try to shift it one higher to keep max efficiency. May be wrong but that’s my take. How was the trailer sway for both? The rebel has air suspension which should help keep the trailer even more level and eliminate an extra variable, maybe if sensors were hooked up to the sides to measure how frequently the trailer swayed you could estimate which is a smoother tow. What is the weight of each truck compared to the weight rating and fill rating of the tires? Especially in the cold and elevation there could be a large variance with that. Love the Ike videos and just throwing out my ideas!
@claude39906 жыл бұрын

Great test! I would have picked the Ram before you even hooked up to it just because of the towing ability and payload. Having to brake 2 more times wasn't a big deal with me.
@SSMJ6 жыл бұрын
What's interesting to me is that they're letting the truck and its software do all the engine braking, instead of actually manually selecting a lower gear. I would bet you the RAM based off the RPMs could probably go down another gear and still be okay and that would definitely increase the engine braking performance by quite a bit. The Raptor software did a much better job however, and kept that thing about as high as it possibly could go in terms of RPMs without sitting in Red Line. That's probably the biggest difference between these two trucks in the downhill tests, which is super interesting.

The extra breaking is worry some, aspecally so far below max cap... Meaning dodge may have exaggerated the numbers... Very dangerous

Roman being a little fiat fan boy. Every video he sits and nit picks everything about any Ford in the video. But refuses to point out anything bad about the fiat( and there is plenty ) . Let's see the Ford did better up hill (didn't work as hard as the fiat, cooler oil temps ), has more power & torque yet didn't get worse mileage. Then also did better in the down hill. And yet he still says the Ford lost to the fiat. What a joke.
@dochollywood19216 жыл бұрын
Fordman7575 well when you need more than 1000 lbs payload and 8000 lbs towing, the choice is kinda clear. And let’s not forget there isn’t anything actually “fiat” about the ram. They chose the rebel because despite the fear hunting and the downhill brake applications, it excelled everywhere else just as much if not better than the raptor. Call it what you want, but don’t lie to yourself because you too are also a fanboy.
@Fordman75756 жыл бұрын
@@dochollywood1921 The Raptor is a specialty off road truck that is in a class of it's own. The rebel is a trim level. If you are going to compare apples to apples then compare the F150 with the FX4 package because that's basically all the rebel is. Then compare the towing/payload capacity. Roman liked to brag how much the rebel can tow. Well lets see it! Let's see how bad that turd struggles doing the super IKE challenge. It couldn't beat the Ford Raptor pulling 7,000 pounds let's just see how it struggles pulling 11,000! Hell the rebel's rear even sagged more then the Raptor's. What the hell is it going to do with a with 400 pounds more tongue weight. It was funny how roman bashed on the Ford in previous Ike gauntlets for sagging more then the competitors yet when the rebel sags more "Let's call it equal" . BS! No matter how little the difference was the rebel still sagged/drooped more then the Raptor. Nothing fiat about it? Fiat owns chrysler so everything about it is fiat. Yea I'm a proud Ford fanboy It's right in my user name. But I also don't post videos on youtube pretending to be unbiased when I'm really not, like roman does.
@dochollywood19216 жыл бұрын
Fordman7575 they literally said a future video is going to be an Ike test with maxed out towing... so you will see it. A 1/4” more sag is negligible in the overall picture, and even though fiat “owns” it, there are literally 0 fiat parts in the vehicle, so it still isn’t fiat. “Oh but there profits go overseas” no they don’t, they go to FCA US LLC, you know, the AMERICAN headquarters, so again, not fiat. And the added mass helped the ford as well, like it or not it is a factor to consider as well. Bigger vehicles tend to feel more stable. I’m not going to say ford is bad, because let’s be honest they aren’t, but someone’s choice is their choice. And legally as well as mechanically, that ford does not outperform the ram realistically in terms of towing. But since you can’t even open your mind to considering that a different brand could have something better than ford, I’ll let you keep working their proverbial shaft as it were. Good day

Fordman7575 the ram rebel trim also isn’t near the same as the FX4 package. Rebel trim has a ton more features not just heavier duty shock absorbers and tires.

okay guys I have a question do you think that GM is ever going to use 410 gears on their diesels because both Dodge and Ford use 410 gears on their diesels and I think that's why they can tow more since Chevy only uses 373 if GM ads 4:10 gears then it should be much closer as far as towing with the diesel

You guys kept saying how the Rebel can tow so much more - according to the door stickers. I too want to see how that big bad “Hemi” does with 11K behind it. Going up the hill, I’m betting it won’t be able to maintain 60 the whole time. After that becomes the case, you should ignore the stickers for a minute, hook that same trailer up to the Raptor, go up the hill and see if you can still say the Fiat tows more... Other than having a stiffer suspension, the Rebel is outgunned in every way.
