Because of the trash I was handed from GM I went back to my first love FORD they started the game and perfected it in my opinion. My Lightning is truly a fun great truck, I will never go back to GM. When my Chevy Bolt was getting its battery replaced due to fire hazard it took four trips to the dealer, numerous emails to GM corporate and finally the presence of the District Manager with GM Technical Assistance on the phone while they updated the vehicle’s firmware to get it properly installed. Based on the sheer size of its 200kWh battery and how inefficient it already is, probably not too much. Doubt it’ll lose more than 15-20% in the worst weather a normal person might deal with. Most EVs that get hit that hard are usually because they’re relying so hard on efficiency and relatively mid-small sized batteries, but this is already brute forcing it’s way through even the best conditions

@@hellkitty1014 this is going to be the difference between legacy automakers and EV automakers. It will force the legacy companies to reevaluate and do things differently so they can compete or they face the very real possibility of going out of business in the future. Overall I think most have done a pretty good job given that they are trying all new things moving away from ICE but there are hiccups. Of course every maker will face issues. And especially with the parts shortages and what not when they may be foregoing something or using an alternative that isn’t as good as what they would normally use. Part of the reason I’m holding off on buying an EV until more of the supply issues are resolved.

Enjoyed this video, especially the summary of the F150 Lightning. Towing is a big issue for EV’s. There was a significant difference with the trailer attached and empty versus the trailer loaded with the ATV. It would be interesting to compare those differences with an ICE F150. I was considering the Lightning but after watching a few towing videos, realized that the reduction in range with towing is a show-stopper. If I want to pull my boat from Minneapolis into Canada, I would be concerned how to make it to the Canadian lake from International Falls with the type of road for traveling. I assume that fast charging stations could be installed but I don’t see that happening for several years. At my age, I’m not certain that I will ever be able to buy an EV that would make practical and economical sense. Minnesota requires that EV owners submit mileage driven in an EV annually so that road taxes can be assessed (to make up for loss of tax revenue at gas pumps). I think it is great technology but not really affordable for most families, especially with the high inflation that is happening right now. Also, gas prices have been artificially escalated by current gov’t policies cutting oil licenses on Federal lands and the nonsense that the world is going to end in 30 years if we don’t drastically reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 or sooner. Also, the tax credit on EV’s is a big scam on taxpayers. The gov’t is not going to cut spending so the tax credit is only going to drive higher tax rates for everyone. All that said, I enjoy watching your videos on EV technology.

It would be nice to see what the Hummer cost to run for a month on daily usage charging every night at home. What the cost would be just charging at home and running errands around town, going to to work etc. I feel this would give a realistic cost of ev usage vs internal combustion engine gas prices. Keep up the good work

Between my EV and my Mustang I spend about $125 in fuel driving 40 miles a day 4 days a week for a month. I charge my EV at home only with a 240 plug and it's plugged in from 1am when i get home and is done charging by 6am. Here in CO i'm at .20c kWh and it costs about $50 to charge over a month. Now if your fast charging in public your not saving any money. Using my local costs i figured out that if fuel is below $4 a gallon and i'm charging publicly then I'm actually spending more money driving the EV.

That will not be done as it would show the TRUE cost and shortfalls of the vehicle. Though they push the fact that they paid for this vehicle they do NOT pay for the numerous vehicles they "test" such as the original hummer ev...as such they don't want to piss the big companies off or they won't give them more vehicles to test( for content ) This is why they complain a little and then downplay the problem and spent countess videos talking up a vehicle that completely failed almost immediately. It is also VERY smart to NOT keep the vehicles long term so they don't have to make the big companies look bad because basically NOTHING new will last long term and even ends up being repaired under warranty numerous times. Quality of new vehicles is CRAP! And all electric vehicles range and charging capabilities are grossly exaggerated...don't believe it,do some research !

There are two of these currently at the local dealership with similar problems that have been in "service" for 34 days now. In this case since the fix was to reset everything by disconnecting the 12V battery and flashing a module with an existing issue - pretty sure any decent dealership would have done that. If it took a whole day, sounds like they may have taken some extra care though. Dealers only get paid for the reflash, and wouldn't have spent more than an hour on it.

High speed, high load is an absolute nightmare for electric motor efficiency. Electric motors are most efficient low load. The motor in isolate is most efficient at high speed, but introduce aero drag and it's much more efficient at low speed. Combustion engines are the opposite. They are more efficient at high load. You will burn more fuel, but you're getting a greater portion of the energy out of the fuel. If an electric truck and gas truck have the same range empty, put a load in the bed or tow anything and the gas truck will gain a massive lead.
