Imagine going to Thailand, getting bitten on the face by a tiger cub, having eyelid *facelift* for free, and the person you are with gets drugged. All on one *vacation* . . . Yet the magnetism and charm of Thailand is so strong, inevitably you return -- again and again! 😄 By the way, loved the late 1990s story.

One time in Phuket i went to the bar to pay up and just as i did some bargirl shows up wih some other cup full of bills and manager takes my notes and the other notes at the same time. I knew immediately what they were trying to do and told the manager not to mix up my bill with the other ones while looking at her straight in the eyes. If i had not done so they would have mixed them up and given me a higher total. I have never been scammed in Thailand but that's because i can usually see them coming. I find thai people to be quite easy to read. They often have their feelings on the outside unlike westerners.

I treated my two older sisters to a holiday to Thailand. We were in the hanger bar in walking street. We were sitting at a bar and talking to the girl's. The us navy were in town. This young American sailor drunk as a skunk , comes up to one of my sisters and says he wants to pay the bar fine for her. She said I don't work in the bar, and I'm old enough to be your grandmother. He wouldn't go away. All I did was get up to go to the toilet and he was away as quick as any thing. My sister thought it was funny and she wouldn't have minded going with him lol

@@Kipper1997 I was there once when they all came ashore at the same time. It was absolutely mental. The bars were packed and it got out of hand. There was a gunfight between the navy and the Thai police. After that there was a curfew. This was back in the late 80s. Years later when I was there I noticed they were only let ashore in small numbers. And there were mp navy guys everywhere.

Thanks Peter for your time. In reference to Nat and Dave, may I suggest that there is always Thai boyfriend or Thai husband in the village who provide “ emotional support “ for bar girls in exchange for money. That is how the system in Thailand operates. That is biggest part of bar girls life style. That part isn’t visible to farangs and most farangs are not aware of it. As you said in one of videos, bar girls usually have a child by them.

My friend is Thai and assiduously checks every bill (he carries a torch on his keyring). We don't go to go-go bars. These are usually Thai restaurants with Thai customers (and menus). I have never questioned him as to why (is it because he has a falang with him?). He's well off so he would not notice B500 missing. I guess he's just smart. Thank you, Peter, and our story authors.

Great to hear Nat and Dave series is still on the go. I hope Dave meets someone nice or gets some som nom na on on Nat. He needs some sort of revenge. I have been going to Thailand for 20 years and was stitched up in Phuket 2019 Songkran in a thatched hut Aussie bar. Couldn't believe it. I was with my Thai wife and kids. The place was choco block and the waitress was helping herself to lady drinks on my bill for about three hour. I didn't check but normally never have to. Lesson learned. Next couple of days went to the bar directly across from that one and had a drink.
@bobbruce41353 жыл бұрын
My experience is from years in the PH. I found it was all about marriage visa scams, even more so with Uni grads. The Nat cartoon shows the deeper motivations and it's not just bar types. Scams occur when there is a deception, such as love. I never found love, only fake. Any stories of non-bar romance scams? Story 3 was best IMHO. Peace.

What is the difference between a go-go bar and beer bar in Thailand?
@ThailandBound3 жыл бұрын
A beer bar is simply a bar with no entertainment only girls sitting around to keep you company if you choose and while you drink. Where as a go-go bar has a stage with scantily clad girls dancing for you to watch.

Pete Ive just been told by a very good Thai friend in Phuket go bars are going to remain closed until further notice possibly permnantly,they have been deemed to high risk with their Aircon Systems and close proximity of people that visit them.......Im not at all surprised I think as I said before a reset could be on the Way.
@ThailandBound3 жыл бұрын
Typical Thai thinking, so how about big restaurants, hotels and other venues such as malls that also use air conditioning? Thanks for the info Louis.
@louisdisbury97593 жыл бұрын
@@ThailandBound In restaurants you still have to social distance and the venue that started the last outbreak in Patong originated from one of the Discos but I have to ask myself is the start of a reset within the bar industry it will be interesting if the news is true to see how Bangkok will handle the closures Ill be in Bangkok hopefully in November to find out.

Fabulous stories as usual, you have set an unachievable standard for other raconteurs of Thai stories. One thing I have requested on my bar bills (especially my first time in that particular bar) is for the waitress to have me initial each drink tab before putting it in the "pot". While this can be cumbersome it accomplishes two things: it puts the bar/staff on notice and also lets me track my own drinking habits. I've actually been to bars where this is their own process in addition to flash lighting the amount, sadly there usually comes a point where all these processes break down on my side if I stayed long enough😂
@ThailandBound3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think signing the bills is a great idea I've also seen bars do it.. love the John Holmes photograph by the way
