I do what Richie did (contracting across Europe) and make some really serious coin, I doubt he went "all in" He is 45 and after 20 odd years of working hard and chasing the money, he rocks into Thailand with only enough money to last 2 years? The maths don't add up and no doubt he has a secret stash of cash put away that no one knows about. Which is a smart thing to do...You don't want to be telling them Thai women how much you are worth. I suspect he gave himself 2 years and X amount of cash to risk, if it failed, he still had his secret stash to fall back on.

Indeed. Im 35 and had bad luck with divorce etc. And I could probably survive 5-10 years in Thailand with what I got left. Hé should retire in a country where You can live on 1500/month But maybe hé was a big spender Some men make millions yet they end up “poor”

Love the David Niven & Bobby Moore books on the shelves. I retired to Nha Trang Vietnam at 52. Now looking at Th for a change. My mistake was having business partners in the UK. People generally gravitate towards successful people, a bit like having fair-weather friends. They saw how I was quite well regarded in my field and wanted to climb aboard, with their part of the investment and promises of empire building. Short term successes were enjoyed, mostly of my back. Then when the opportunity came to screw it up with their different agenda, bang, they brought the house down. Maybelle and you have made it happen together, keep it all yours, your decisions etc.

I know a bloke from the UK, opened a bar with credit cards, never paid back the cards, never had intended too, he is all in, built a house with the proceeds he had from the sale of his unit, also purchased a new car, did I mention he is all in. His bar generates a modest return, if things go belly up, the wife gets to keep the house, the car and the bar. That is why they call it all in, not something I would consider. Happily married 15 years, built the house, bought the new car, things go belly up, the wife keeps them, as for me, well my 90% is still invested in the old country generating me a tax free return, never all in. Seems like a top bloke, but going all in without a legal leg to stand on is suicide, wish him the best of luck though.

Richie rolled the dice 🎲 and deserved the good luck he got. He took a massive gamble and it’s paid off seeing him expand the coffee shop and how they both work very hard to make it a success, I think it was good being away from the main area as this is more relaxing and the locals and expats know they can go to a place where they can chill out. Very interesting question about a monthly visit Pete maybe keeping a low profile has helped with this

It's probably similar to Vietnam-there's two options. You can start up without the proper certs. and even a license, and then you'll have to pay someone for sure, but you will still be able to operate, just with some monthly "coffee money." If you have all the correct docs/certs etc then they do tend to leave you alone.

Women all across the world are great collectors of resources. It's in their DNA. So typically when a man's usefulness Runs Out, is when he no longer has resources to offer to a woman. My man has no leverage here. He spent all his money to start the business, put it in his wife or girlfriend's name and now she runs the business and he sits back and doesn't contribute any resources at all because he is not supposed to be working. So he has eliminated much of the value he can offer in his relationship already. I really hope she's not a bar girl or former bar girl. Because he has really stacked the odds against himself without even realizing it.

For me, customer service lacks in many locally owned businesses. If Thais are paid minimum wage in the service industry they’ll just leave and quit knowing they can get another minimum wage paying job. If a business such as a cafe or restaurant finds a skilled waiter/ waitress that is a great asset, it’s important to pay that employee more.

Worked as an engineer in London and abroad and has a rental property but didn't have £13k and had to put it on a credit card? Behave yourself.

I think if Ritchie never had a you tube channel he'd never have any customers in that location . If I went to phuket I'd call in there also.

Really glad you interviewed Richie - have been following their channel for a while. Sitting here in Scotland, it's 5 degrees here so envious of the thai climate! I am thinking about jacking in my job here and moving to China to teach - then spending the holidays in Thailand (covid situation in china is stopping me now though). Just need to build up the courage to do it! Respect to guys like you and Richie who made the jump and can make it work!

Really glad you chose to visit Ritchie. Two of my favourite vloggers together. Been following Ritchie and Maybelle for a while so aware of a lot of his story. They are a lovely couple and already achieved a lot together. It’s a place I will go say hi when I eventually get back. There you go Pete, a second coffee shop. Get yourself and Nune in the business lol.

@@ThairishTimes Yes, it’s what I like in a vlogger and why I follow the likes of him and yourself. As you said in the video, it’s always good to follow a journey and see how it develops. I’m sure your journey is just beginning too.
