Can it be true that a €300 fine applies to camping in Greece? Maybe it could be different during off season or when no one complains? I'm trying to avoid the confiscation by the municipal authorities... Any experiences about this? I can understand NOT exposing campers to video interviews. But, I'm curious how to be a camper in Greece beyond the $50/nite campsites. Everything Gabriel shows a vacant building I envision clearing a little protected area fir an overnight hammock or bedroll, etc. 💚

20:00 In Greek, "παρακαλώ" (pronounced "parakalo") means "please." It can also mean "I beg, I pray, I ask, I request..." and "you're welcome" when responding to someone who has thanked you. as a greek, after midday, i say "kalispera" as the rental car guy said. is the most common and greeks use it even after midnight sometimes. not many greeks say "kalo apogevma" (witch also means good afternoon) when they meet someone but usually when they leave. same at night, when we leave a place we say "kalo vrady" or "kali nychta" instead of kalispera. (apogevma and espera both means afternoon, nychta and vrady means night).

If you get a chance, check out Ammoglossa beach in Keramoti as well. Parts of it get very crowded in high season but right now its much quieter. This is my first September in Greece and I think it's my favourite month so far. By the way, the day your ferry from Kavala was cancelled, we got severe weather warning texts on our phones advising not to travel. But the weather wasn't that bad at all in the end. 20:01 after one oclock in the mid day its supposed to be noon (ore turning to afternoon) so you can clearly say kalispera without any hesitation. 21:50 entaxi is a compound word consisted fron en (in) and taxi (order), so the direct meaning is "in order". I suggest to learn slowly the rutes of compound words , I think you will learn more faster plus many of them become from ancient Greek language. btw you could visit Alikes in east coast of thassos wich you could see an ancient shipyard scalpted on the rocks. Thassos is very close to mainland so it can be filled easily by tourists at summertime. This is the reason that prices are a little bit high than the usual even on mid September. For the place name of Kavala you should put the tone at the middle (a). The way you say it and if you miss the middle (a) it turns to the word "horny" in Greek! 🤣

I've been on the island of Thassos for about three years, and my favourite beach so far is Koinyra, or Kinira. Alyki Beach is amazing too, but a bit too crowded for my liking. A little further west, try Limenaria Beach, long sand with some pebbles, not too crowded because it's (I think) about two kilometers long, including Tripiti Beach. The longest beach though is Golden (the Skala of Panagia and Potamia villages), shallow for ever and crowded during the high season. Skala means "step", so Skala Potamia is just the lower Potamia village, by the sea. Almost all the villages are double, one above and a Skala below. Reason? To avoid the pirates of last centuries, people would mainly live on the higher villages and only use the Skala as a fishing dock. Also, before tourism took off, people would live close to their fields, higher up - their beachfront properties were worthless if you go back as early as 50 years. So, there's a popular saying on the island: the son-in-laws got rich... Why? Because a few decades ago, fathers would leave the fields to their sons, to work them, and their (worthless) beachfront properties to their daughters! 😁

The word "Espera" (compare with "Vespers") is literally the evening, i.e. the period after sunset and before night dark. Afternoon is "apogevma" (meaning "after meal") but "kalo apogevma" is considered a departing greeting, like "kalo vrady", "kalinychta"; it's not good to say when meeting people, like "hairete" or "yeia sas" - and "kalimera" in the morning. In fact "kalispera" is the greeting when you meet someone after the sunset, but it is appropriate enough even for after the midday, because it is worse to use a departing expression. However there are Greeks who love to torture others with language use which must be appropriate and literal...

I feel getting a motorcycle license next time you're back in the US would be a good idea. I know what you can do in Turkey, figure out how to solve the mic rubbing noise issue finally. Could potentially be an easy way to get more subs.
