Nostalgia itself is never a problem, it's how various mediums utilize nostalgia. Nostalgia should only ever be used or sprinkled in to season an otherwise good storyline and likable characters. If the creators purpose is to create a show exclusively around nostalgia, they just going to be left with a bowl full of seasoning. Nostalgia was perfectly utilized in the original series. The primary thing that drew young and old people to the show was a likable and relatable cast of characters along with a relatable plot progression, something that should be able to appeal to young and old people in equal measure.

The references also don't land well sometimes in seasons 2 and 3. For example, when they say "suck it" as a general 90's reference during the Summers of 1995-1996, when the phrase was actually popularized by DX which didn't even exist until mid to late 1997. They seem to sometimes use late 90's references when the show has not yet reached the late 90's. As someone who grew up in the 90's there are times when it seems like the people making it see the 90's as one long moment and not as an entire rapidly changing decade.

Obviously I get why they couldn't bring back Danny Masterson given his... activities, but they could have thrown in a line like "oh Hyde's working on an oil rig" or something like that. Also it may have been possible to recast Hyde, one can assume that after 10-15 years he would look much different and I think most people could suspend their disbelief to an extent. A drastic change in appearance [from casting a new actor] would be just as or more believable than some of the other concessions or tweaks they had to make.

These felt like dweeby/annoying children that I would have steered clear from at all costs (maybe with the exception of new kelco?), while the cast from the original series felt truly like likable young adults that would have been fun to engage with. Theres so many 90's shows and movies to reference that would have made creating this series actually quite easy. The audio quality jump from season 1 commentary to season 2 commentary🙌🙌🙌 Also, not suprised about the disinclusion of most of the original 70’s charaters. Ashton and Mila are r-wordist sympathizers and somehow affiliated with scientology, Wilmer is a literal groomer (29 by Demi Lovato) and Laura Prepon is a full scientologist. Something tells me the crew and other cast didn’t want anything to do with them.

I feel that season 2 was when this show started to get off the ground, vut then it got cancelled. Its only real hope is it gets picked up by another streaming platform like hulu.

As crummy as Netflix is sometimes, I might actually hop platforms if that happens. Netflix just seems to keep getting worse.

As a fan of That 70s Show.. I was really excited when I heard they were going to come back with this new version… I wasn’t sure what to expect.. I smiled with I seen Kitty and Redd immediately… so I was locked in for a few episodes… but something wasn’t clicking for me… I loved seeing the characters I loved making appearances but when it came to the kids… a part of me couldn’t connect to them the same way I did with the cast from the original… it didn’t feel like the kids interacts flowed well and it felt forced… so I never finished it. I watched all of 70s show until it ended so I guess that magic that was there then… at least for me I didn’t feel it this time around. Also I still dress in my favorite styles from the past… some days it’s all black, other days it’s t shirt, lol I dress professional from time to time but give me a my favorite band or wrestling t shirt and I’m happy. Lol

Yeah, I dunno about putting this show out with most of the cast being steeped in so much controversy.

The problem is the new gang just weren’t interesting or very good in their roles. As someone else has stated they finally started to get better in the last part.

@BruceTheDeuce85 I get that it shouldn't be the deciding factor on if the show was enjoyable or not, but being openly hostile isn't the best way to get your point across. The Masterson thing didn't affect my enjoyment of the show personally, but what he did was bad, and supporting it is bad, too. It's reasonable for this to hurt someone's enjoyment of escapist material. Some people are way too sensitive, you're not wrong about that. But I think in this instance, it has validity. Just disagree humanely and move on.

I don't know. Those character letters never felt like support for me. It felt like friends from his life, giving their last bit of help knowing they would likely never see him again.

I don't think this show was canned over ratings or quality. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis defended a known rapist and the actor for Hyde is said rapist

I'm pretty surprised how good the cast from the original show looks, 20 years later - the actress who plays Kitty Foreman, Debra Jo Rupp, looks like she hasn't aged a day

1:14:02 I think you forget that today's society has a short attention span so forcing a lot of the story plots into an episode or two compared to the 90s is pretty on point for today like it's a reverse TV show inflation while that 70s Show probably took like a season or more to develop all these characters in storyline

@@genkaiba15 I think the new gang should've had a new hangout spot instead of their parents old hangout. Arcades were thriving in the 90s and that's where I would've wanted them to hang out but maybe they couldn't get the rights to feature certain arcade games and whatnot. They featured a really sad version of the Sharper Image in That 90s Show and it was really disappointing because I have a ton of fond memories of me hanging at that store. Would've loved to see Suncoast Video make an appearance because Topher used to work at one, it would've been a great callback.
