I'm so glad Ann gave back the starring role to Jeannie. That was a touching moment of the sweetness of thinking of another person's feelings and bringing them some 😊 happiness. What a terrific episode, Ann going to Donald's hometown of Saint Louis to celebrate her engagement with the family. Mabel Albertson who portrayed Don's mother was fantastic in her role. She finally showed her kind and sensitive side to Ann. An entertaining episode. Ann and Don are the ultimate couple. Love watching "That Girl."

What a sweet show. So glad they showed such amazing values. Ann did the right thing and they all loved her for it. I see that Don inherited his famous eye roll from his father.

Marlo Thomas has said in interviews that the lack of sex on That Girl made her feel "immature". She knew what the morals were in the 60s so the show went with that-but if she had her way it would have been totally different

Mabel Albertson made a career out of playing overbearing, neurotic, critical mothers, and mothers-in-law. She was so great in those roles. Bewitched, MTM (as the judgmental ex-mother-in-law of one of Mary's boyfriends), That Girl, and more. She is also Jack Albertson"s (Chico And The Man, Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory) sister.

At the end of this episode, Ann and Donald were playing a silly word game, when they could have been fooling around. Ann's father didn't even burst in. Oh, well.

@@RepentfollowJesus "Fooling around" is open to interpretation. I wasn't suggesting that they disappear into Ann's bedroom, followed by all sorts of sound effects. They could have been shown kissing on the couch. They had been seen doing that before, and it didn't cause an uproar with the censors. By having Ann and Donald playing that silly game, they are obviously and unnaturally avoiding physical contact.

I like the new dad and the way he behaves. I dont know why they seem like its her first time meeting them. Inspecting her?? His mom has never liked her. His dad didnt seem interested before.

Richard Schaal is Ann's co-star in the play couch scene. At least he is not playing anyone named Arnell, neither Paul nor Howard. Or anyone else on an MTM branded show. Charlie Burke on 'Rhoda', and the studio photographer (whose name escapes me) on 'Phyllis'.

The end tag was cute but it would be nice if they looped the tag into the original story...
@randilevson9547Ай бұрын
I agree. The story puts Ann and Donald from St. Louis back to New York, with no mention of the previous events. That end bit could have been tacked on to any episode from that season. The quality of this episode suffered a bit because of the unconnectedness.

Problem with it is too many new characters that we've never seen before, and are never going to see again, in a new location. Too much unfamiliarity.

Ann is sometimes insecure, and stammers about, not saying what she means. She ought to be used to being around people and talking to them.

16:00 The guy, is horrible at acting. It could be the way the actor (real life) decided to play his part, or maybe he just sucks and, like on stage, they had to drag him on at least minute.

Looks like it’s the way he decided, not to seem professional. He was in a lot of stuff, usually light hearted or comedies, MTM, Newhart, Dick Van Dyke, It’s a Living, A Team type shows.

I would call this 'meta-acting'. Acting as though they are acting. I expect it takes greater skill to do this than regular acting.
