Disagree on story 3. They had a problem with every NPC talking down to and belittling them "for no reason..." in a place where they were slaves. DM sounds new, trying a gritty style game. Getting that right is very challenging. Biggest mistake was the permanent injury/maiming, I've never seen a game where that works out, though I'd be lying if I said I hadn't tried it myself anyway. Well, then there's the panicking when the players didn't free the demon as expected. I doubt the boy was supposed to be a demon originally, but the DM didn't know the cardinal rule. "If you expect players to do something, they won't. If you expect players not to do something, they will." Honestly it seems like a game where a good session zero could have helped immeasurably. I doubt OP would have played in it since they even had a problem with loosing all their precious starting gear. DM has some serious potential, if they are new, I can think of a dozen different directions for the campaign as far as it got that could have been great stories.

And this is JUST gods listed in the PHB, which the Raven Queen isn't in. I thought she was more a goddess of knowledge or secrets. The change your world story really gets me. Raven Queen is also a god of death, not THE god of death for D&D canon. Mainly worshiped by Shardar Kai in the Shadowfell. More than likely the player in that story is thinking Forgotten Realms in which case that would be Kelemvor. He's the primary god of death in that setting. As far as my understanding Raven Queen is the primary god of death in CR. (I could be misremembering. I know the DMG has the recommended Dawn War pantheon. Which is a solid selection). Even with all of that D&D canon and lore changes consistently. Both from table to table and also edition to edition. For me D&D canon is whatever the DM is running at that table. If I dont mesh with it, I'll give it a session or two then respectively bounce. But above all that. The DM made a pantheon. They put in all that work. Then to have a player say "naw" and that they did it wrong is such a slap in the face. To me that's a sign they care more about their character than the game. More than willing to work with a player to find something close to what they want or pictured. Anyway, solid video as always doge. Keep it up.

Tell him to get his shit together but somewhere else because you're not welcome here anymore. Tell Artificer he's on thin ice. He didn't instigate, but he did actively participate in PKing, and that's not cool. THEN, because it's an Ancient Greece setting, just continue the story, but the characters are now trapped IN HADES. There they meet with one of the many gods of the Underworld who tell them that Hades is a jealous god who does not willingly give up his subjects, but there is a very dire situation and if they can complete a task or series of tasks to the satisfaction of the Lord and/or Lady of the Underworld themselves then they will be allowed to return to the world of the living. That would be sick. Also, let's give it up for story 2 guy, who is SO hilariously narrow minded that he apparently doesn't realise, know, OR CARE that there exist MULTIPLE "canon" D&D settings all with their own pantheons of gods. For the third story, counting the intro, showing cruelty for the sake of cruelty does not make an engaging story. I get grimdark is a thing, but usually such games are advertised as such. Given how much the D.M. was pulling out of his ass just to make the party feel bad or uncomfortable, it seems like this D.M. was using DND as an excuse to bully others with minimal retaliation. He might be new, but impressions are impressions, and telling what feelings a style of storytelling conveys can help the D.M. find a style that better conveys the emotions that the D.M. wants the party to feel.

The dm messed up the set up for the third story. Aside from a kid in the basement the nun didn’t come across as particularly evil, and the party has no reason to actually attack the nun to begin with. I had a dm pull a similar twist, but evil kid wasn’t locked in the basement of an orphanage guarded by a pacifistic nun. We heard rumors about cult activity, tracked down said cult, and found them in the process of sacrificing a child. At that point it’s only natural to stop said ritual and kill the cultists, it just so happens that in this case the cultists were the good guys, the kid was the physical manifestation of some forgotten dark god, and the ritual we interrupted was intended to permanently kill the little shit.

"the established gods" is kinda hard to argue using canon. the fact gods are NOT multiversal means they have to have worshipers in a universe to have presence. so that DM's universe simply has no raven queen worshippers, done. no breaking canon, its literally using canon. now at the same time he could work with the player and work it in as a universe slip incident and the guy trying to spread the word so she can get a presence, and start a war for the title as only one god can have a specific aspect at any one time per universe.

Given that the problem players had a history of suddenly attacking other party members for fun, why did the DM continue to allow unrestricted PvP at the table? Banning PvP is the clear solution here. If the problem players aren't having fun any longer because they can't make everyone else miserable, then banning PvP will likely drive them away from the game. Considering the problems that can result, I would be reluctant to even join a game that allows PvP with few or no restrictions.

First one: lol cat players... they will jump down a pit for fun. You need to 👢 the douchennozzle. Second story: 1/3 of the dmg is devoted to world building, so you can make Oz, the great and powerful, the god of your homebrew world, and it is 100% cannon per the rules. Heck, the death god in the Forgotten Realms is not the Raven Queen. Strange... Third: seemed like it was a rookie dm. Most d&d is bad acting with plot hooks you can see coming a mile away, but the you are there to play the game, why avoid taking the plot hook? What benifit do you have from not freeing the obviously evil entity and starting the next arch that the dm has made to be the next part of the campaign? Last: yikes... glad they ended that early.

If I was the DM in the first story, the god of anti-dumbfuckery would've reversed time and had the exact events play out except with the characters in opposite positions. So the party would kill the Sorcerer and the Artificer. And then I'd kick both those players out.

Nice cats! I do like the way the narrator evolved from always taking OP party to be critical but not in a punishing manner. Often I do feel that authors of horror stories are likely to be the one who caused/rooted for it... Or at least did not do anything about it. I am myself biased and mostly take defence to the GM so I will continue to comment about it... Although I hope my useless comment will make the algorithm recommend more of this content thanks to it. In the first story, with the fireball, the GM should have been killing the problem player as the horde was growing instead of reconning the event... Making as if the event did not happen is a big issue in the world as it removes the danger of the world. Although I definietly agree that he has to rule out PvP. For me, this is a big no, if you do it on purpose, your action just gets lost, for command, suggestion, intimidation or all kind of RP PvP, the player targeted just decided how he wants to react and can ignore the effect of the spell or skill. PvP is interesting only in "scripted" part of the campaign where everyone agree and should never happen otherwise. Sorry for my long rant. Great content, great narration and great games in the background, I like you content, please continue with the good work!

Last story: I'm not excusing the girl's actions but the fact that all the other players immediately jumped to calling for her to be banned at the 1st instance of cultural ignorance raises major red flags for them as well. Especially since the only person with cause to be offended, the Indian, said it was fine. I get the feeling that every person in that story was toxic in different ways.

Let's be real here, even if it turned out to be a misunderstanding, telling a (gay) player that she may or may not use a slur in front of them after already making herself look lowkey racist really didn't do her any favors in the long run. Based on how stories like this usually go, I can't blame OP or their group for kicking them when they did, rather than waiting until they ruined the campaign later on with their behavior.
@serpentinious77452 жыл бұрын
They called for her to be banned before the gay slur part so you can't use that to excuse them. At the time they called for banning it was based solely on her ignorance of Indians liking D&D.
@cmhsky2 жыл бұрын
You're kidding me right? Using gay slurs is not "cultural ignorance". It's not excusable. You are super privileged if it's not obvious how *none*of what she said was okay. The Indian thing was in bad taste. Cool. We all make mistakes, sometimes a joke comes out a lot worse than you meant it. Everything after that was doubling down on ignorance. It proved her thought process on minorities was a personality trait and not just a "slip of the tongue"
@asioca19922 жыл бұрын
@@serpentinious7745 The group detected red flags and reacted accordingly, you can't really blame them for that, especially when we have so many examples of what happens when you allow a problem player to participate within your campaign, long after they made it clear that they were going to cause nothing but grief and drama everywhere they go. Good riddance.

Last story: As an Indian, I have some insight on that. Even up to today, there's a lot of people who stereotype Indians as either terrorists (because they refuse to realize that India isn't in the Middle East), stuck up professionals or the guy who runs a motel or a gas station. They can't concept that they do digital art, write, play DnD or anything creative. And because of the Indian scam call centers or poorly made online content from certain Indians, they often get branded as these shallow, illiterate people who just want to hit on girls and don't have any genuine love for a craft. I hope that clears that up a bit.

Many nations have something like D&D but isn't. Now I'm curious as to what the most popular stuff is over there. Including D&D itself of course.
@Blueoriontiger2 жыл бұрын
@@SetzerII I'll ask Mom and see what she has to say, although she was much less into nerdy things till very recently (like 2018). It really depends on how strict the parents are and honestly how personable they are I'd think. I remember in the Atlanta Indian community, it was a *huge* deal when the first Indian developer made a PC game back in the later 2000s. Raji: An Ancient Epic came out really recently as well. The lore and story are there for people to make something like DnD, but I don't think it was pursued as any sort of playable medium.

The only rules at my table would be don’t be an asshole, and if it’s illegal irl it’s illegal in game and you will be punished for it accordingly. As far as I’m concerned any and all aspects of “political correctness” can go the way of the dinosaurs, it’s a cancer upon our society that needs to ripped out by the roots if our society is to survive through the next election and beyond. All slurs and other “bad/naughty” words are just that, words. They hold absolutely no power whatsoever over anyone by themselves. Context is what gives all words their power, or similarly further strips away their power. So yea, at my table your only limits would be to not be an asshole and to not do anything considered illegal irl in game, other than that the entire multiverse is your playground
