FYI: The body they later identify as Ben Tramer, that was burned when the police car hit him? He was also the boy that Laurie said she had a crush on in the first movie. She begged Annie to call him and tell him she was kidding, after Annie had told him Laurie liked him. So, in this movie, Annie is dead, Laurie is attacked and Ben is brutally murdered by accident, involving a police car. At least there’s some continuity between the first 2 movies.

Halloween 2 is a great sequel, a very underrated film.
@Iritis-2 жыл бұрын
This may have already been mentioned but here's a fun fact about the weird and convoluted history of the Halloween franchise: Following Halloween, John Carpenter wanted to do follow up films in an anthology format akin to something like The Twilight Zone. Where subsequent movies depicted disconnected horror stories with the only common theme being they were centered around the Halloween season. The studio had different plans and wanted a direct sequel starring Michael Myers as the big bad again, so a compromise was made where Halloween 2 was a direct sequel and Halloween 3 would kick off the anthology format. Halloween 3 ended up bombing and the studio decided to scrap the anthology plans and continue the Myers storyline in Halloween 4. Carpenter notoriously hated some of the decisions in Halloween 2 as it put Michael in a smaller box and directed the series towards a family focused narrative that killed the mystique of the character. Notably, a studio had purchased the rights to Halloween before production began on Halloween 2 and had decided that the film needed another 8 minutes added to the runtime, so Carpenter added the Laurie-Michael sibling connection to the script at the last moment. Carpenter was so put off by the quality of the script that he abstained from directing it. This contention among creators and fans over the direction of the series lead to several major retcons and reboots of the franchise which split the film timeline several ways: - Halloween 1 and 2 as a duology - Halloween 1 and 3 as stand-alone films - Halloween 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 as the "Cult of Thorn" saga - Halloween 1, 2, H20, and Resurrection as the first major reboot - Halloween (2007) and Halloween 2 (2009) as the Rob Zombie remake duology and finally - Halloween 1, Halloween (2019), Halloween Kills (2021), and the upcoming Halloween Ends as the current continuity/timeline which erases the sibling connection.
@Carandini2 жыл бұрын
The anthology format COULD have worked if it wasn't for Halloween II. Because the second movie also had Myers, it created the expectation that he'd be the focus of the series. Hence I don't think Halloween 3 had any chance to live or die on its own merits.
@rajdixit16052 жыл бұрын
An excellent summation!
@Iritis-2 жыл бұрын
@@Carandini Yeah Halloween 3 was a decent movie in it's own right, especially when looked at as a stand-alone film and not part of a slasher franchise. Even though Halloween didn't work out as an anthology series, it's refreshing to see other franchises successfully tackle the format in recent years.

I think that was the best concept, knowing she has a brother who is an invincible demon thats gonna be chasing her for decades and murdering everyone connected to her and doesn’t even show a sign or remorse is scarier than a random killer on the loose because thats typical and/or it won’t affect one-time survivors the same that it would affect someone who’s been hunted for 40 years

Enjoyed this reaction video. It's basically my favourite slasher of all times: It's thick in atmosphere, love how the hospital feels more and more secluded and isolated as the movie progresses. It also plays with needle-phobia (and medical phobias in general) and even has a dig at the whole razor-in-apple thing. A lot of thought has been put into how to off the characters in gruesome and inventive ways without getting too absurd. For all these reasons, I place this as the ultimate 80's slasher flick. The production values are also top-notch, Carpenter filled in as director on a few of the most memorable scenes bc he felt the initial cut was "pedestrian". Oh, and Jamie's little boo actually made it out alive but the final scene with them in the ambulance was scrapped for a more subtle final shot of just Jamie. I think it's in the version that was aired on tv back when they made alternative cuts for television.

My friend who is a Halloween fanatic pointed out how pointless the death of Alice is at the first. The hospital is so empty this night. I do feel for the nurses getting killed off. Especially the one stabbed and lifted. The real horror of this movie is JLC’s wiggy wig.

If you are planning to watch more Halloween with Michael Myers here's a guide: "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" has nothing to do with Michael Myers. The original plan for the series was that every movie was a new scary story and the only reason they did Halloween II was that fans demanded a sequel. Fans hated that Michael Myers wasn't in it an most people skip this movie. "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers" is where the story continues and is one of my personal favorites. "Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers" is a direct sequel to Halloween 4. "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" follows Halloween 5 but nobody really like this movie. However some like "The Producer's Cut". "Halloween H20: 20 Years Later" is first and most a sequel to the first 2 movies. Originally it was suppose to reference Halloween 4-6 also but those lines where cut from the movie. Most like this movie and Jamie Lee Curtis returned to the series. "Halloween: Resurrection" is a direct sequel to H20 where they try to take the series in a new direction but few liked it. This is the final movie in the original series. "Halloween" (2007) is a more realistic and gritty remake from Rob Zombie. It kinda split the fanbase. "Halloween II" (2009) is the sequel to Rob Zombie's movie. "Halloween" (2018) is a sequel to the original Halloween (1978) with Jamie Lee Curtis returning to the series. It ignores all the sequels and retcons so that Michael Myers is no longer Laurie's brother (because the director of this movie hated that). "Halloween Kills" (2021) is the sequel to the 2018 Halloween. "Halloween Ends" (2022) is planned to be the end of the series.

Without spoilers, the Halloween chronology is as follows: ---Halloween (1978) ------Halloween 2 (1981) ---------Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers-->Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers-->Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers ---------Halloween H20: 20 Years Later-->Halloween: Resurrection ------Halloween (2018)-->Halloween Kills ---Halloween 3: Season of the Witch ---Halloween (2007)-->Halloween 2 (2009) The end of each of these branches is generally not recommended. Halloween "3" is the most stand-alone out of all of these; nothing to do with Michael Myers.

Probably my favourite sequel but the original 1978 remains THE best Halloween movie to me personally, cool fact about the hot tub kills is that the dude who played Myers in this movie (Richard Warlock) is also a professional stuntman so when he garrotted the dude he said ‘arch your shoulders back for the first 3 tugs and then on the final pull go back as far as you can and then go completely limp and I’ll cushion your fall’ and to the girl he said ‘whenever you are ready to either be dunked or to be pulled back up just apply pressure onto my palm using the back of your head and I’ll do the rest’ that to me is the sign of a true professional, Richard Warlock along with Nick Castle (the original actor to play Myers) and James Jude Courtney (the latest actor and stuntman to play him starting with the 2018 movie) are for me THE three best actors to play the character

Halloween II is like an unwanted orphan that no one wants to claim, particularly Carpenter for reasons others below already laid out. The best way to watch II is in a block with I, as they both really are just one big story/night (longest Halloween night EVER---must have been a daylight savings fall-back night). With I fresh in your scared mind, II comes off better.

And I’m glad because look at the body of work he produced it’s definitely got range. It’d be kinda soul crushing to make one breakout hit and get painted into the corner only making sequels when you’ve got so many other great stories floating around in your head

Interesting fact: in the tv extended edition, Laurie is seen riding in an ambulance with Jimmy showing that they both survived Michael’s wrath which lead to the theory that Jimmy and Laurie got together and that Jimmy is the possible father of Jamie Lloyd from Halloween 4-5
@staceypaquette5483 Жыл бұрын
I know they named little Jamie in honor of Jamie Lee Curtis, but Jamie is a nickname for James or female version for Jimmy, so Jimmy could have been the daddy.

Okay, so there's two sets of Halloween films, the original John Carpenter set from the original Halloween to the upcoming Halloween Kills, and then there's the Rob Zombie remakes. Carpenter only directed the first two, but all the other other ones, aside from three (nothing to do with Michael Myers at all), follow the first Carpenter film, even though most of them are no longer canon. Halloween 1978 Halloween II (direct sequel to Halloween 1978, no longer canon since Halloween 2018) Halloween III (unrelated) Halloween 4 Return of Michael Myers (direct sequel to Halloween II, no longer canon since Halloween H20) Halloween 5 Revenge of Michael Myers (direct sequel to Halloween 4, no longer canon since Halloween H20) Halloween 6 Curse of Michael Myers (direct sequel to Halloween 5, no longer since Halloween H20 - tied for personal favorite) Halloween H20 (direct sequel to Halloween II, no longer canon since Halloween 2018 - tied for personal favorite) Halloween Resurrection (direct sequel to Halloween H20, no longer canon since Halloween 2018 - worst of the series) Halloween 2018 (direct sequel to Halloween 1978) Halloween Kills (direct sequel to Halloween 2018, coming out this month) Halloween Ends (direct sequel to Halloween Kills, not yet made)
@MichaelMcAllister2 жыл бұрын
The direct sequel to Halloween was written and produced by Debra Hill and John Carpenter, but Carpenter did not direct; that was delegated to Rick Rosenthal. Carpenter originally intended Halloween to be an anthology of different spooky stories. Michael's story arc was supposed to begin and end with the first film.
@Trademarc19772 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the cheat sheet! As far as I'm concerned, the Michael Meyers storyline ends here. Part III is a nice enough dessert. Oh, and even though Carpenter shot some additional scenes for part II, the bulk of the movie was directed by Rick Rosenthal.
@jdnaz12882 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that parts 4-6 are "no longer canon", it's just that they're part of one of the timelines.

When John Carpenter wrote in the screenplay that Lori was actually a Myers, he was frustrated and 3 sheets to the wind. He deeply regrets the decision and it shows with Halloween 9 or whatever the fuck you wanna call it.

One thing that causes issues when trying to find Michael is that the mask he wore he stole from a store, where presumably they also had multiple identical masks that they sold to customers.
