I think Quinton kinda rings true a lot of what I believe advertising to be. The scifi novel the Space Merchants delves a lot in to advertising in a dystopian setting and how advertising isn't about convincing consumers that your product is better, but that your product needs to remain in the consumers mind. If given the choice, the consumer will go for the one they're familiar with, not the one that is better. That's why mascots work so well. People remember the plantation owner Colonel Sanders but don't remember the Popeye's lady. Advertising isn't about the product at all, its about being remembered better
@x999uuu15 жыл бұрын

Here in Chile we managed to pass a law that bans mascots in food. It also bans toys and other such incentives UNLESS the food pass a certain Standard of healthy-ness. So McDonals now has to sell completely flavorless (because no salt) burgers and (horribly dry) fruit and juice instead of fries and soda for the happy meal in order to keep selling the toys alongside it. (It barely sells among kids).

And as you continued reading it I found myself spiraling into this crippling depression that has taken me several hours to even begin to shake just so I could come back and make this comment. I feel like I may hate you now. I love your content but the fact that you would willingly me and your other fans in such a way to have us learn the existence of that cursed article has killed me inside. 2020 truly is the darkest year in our lifetime all because this video exists.

Thankfully, what you've managed to do with this concept/idea/topic is way beyond anything I could have possibly expected. This is an exceptionally researched, powerfully voiced, and genuinely interesting mini-documentary and I think it stands as a testament to why you deserve a respected place on this platform. Keep following your unique voice, cause you're just getting better and better. Cheers!

My grandfather (b.1885) was a newspaper man, but also helped design the original Mr. Peanut. Like many of the scientists who worked on the Manhattan Project, I like to think that he came to rue the day he participated in such an endeavor. Perhaps not - he was actually a horrible racist (no joke).

That McDonald's shit really worked. I STILL get the nostalgia bug just driving by a McDonald's. See, I was a bad ass kid. Just being real. I was the girl teachers were warned about. Phone calls to my mom every day, getting sent home, etc. So my parents would bribe me with a Happy Meal if I behaved in school. It worked. I remember getting one of those little pull back Minnie Mouse cars in my Meal. Lmiao.

In other words, Mr. Peanut is the most true brand mascot in regards to what he truly represents. He is greed, he is gluttony, and he is the upper 1%, the textbook definition of a White-collared Criminal. He has no shame, as he doesn't need it (in his little, crusty, monocled eyes at least). When it comes right down to it, Mr. Peanut doesn't try to be someone he's not. To Mr. Peanut, putting on a facade to sell a product is "something pathetic, that only the poor, underprivileged working class would resort to." He sells only The Finest of Peanuts, a Snack of Luxary, and is willing to give us lower-class consumers a taste of what the Big Wigs munch on... for a price, of course.

I was nodding off to sleep, lulled by your calming reading voice, everything was centered, life was good then the cacophony of crying babies around 26:00 immediately sent me into a full blown panic as a jumped out of bed and started running out of my bedroom into the pitch black hall way without direction. I don't know if I was running towards something in need, or away from something malicious. I still don't know. I do not appreciate this experience at all, Quinton

One of the many great things about Dexter’s Laboratory is how they did timeless parodies of several mascots and brands. Of course, it was partially out of wanting to make a story about them without advertising them, but it also did commentary. For example: There was an entire episode about a sleazy Chuck E. Cheese’s-type that ends up portraying the people behind it literally kidnapping Dexter and pursuing enslaving him for his knowledge. And it doesn’t lead to some kind of uprising or societal backlash towards “Chubby Cheese” at all; after Dee Dee saves Dexter from the place as they leave, it’s still just the two of them that know it, and the business keeps shilling as usual. It’s even named-dropped in Season 4 Episode 13a(12a on HBO Max) casually as a location marker. There was a big running theme with branded franchises, too, namely superhero comics/figures, My Little Pony, Barbie, Mr. T, Star Trek, etc. If only they jabbed at Mr. Peanut, hehe.
