Fun fact: here in Europe Tears of the Kingdom won't be the first Nintendo title to cost 70 €, for some strange reason Breath of the Wild and Smash Bros Ultimate have always been at 70 €, while the rest of games are at 60 €.
@MaartenT
@MaartenT 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, and Sony upped the price to 70 € during the PS4 generation and some games even get an 80 € price now (for the PS5 version), like God Of War Ragnarök. I am actually somewhat surprised that the new Zelda game isn't 80 € in Europe, but I am not at all surprised that they are charging 70 $ for it. Edit: Also, if you want the game digitally, just use one of the vouchers and it's 50 € (not sure about the price in the US), as long as you want an other game and are ready to buy 2 vouchers for 100 €.
@Jonathan-fw6ty
@Jonathan-fw6ty 2 жыл бұрын
Ya'll realise that 70€ includes a 20% VAT, while the US price doesn't, right? Remove the 20% tax from 70€ and convert to usd and it gives you $62. They're almost the same price yet you guys always whine on the internet... lol Meanwhile Canadians and Australians now pay $100+ for games, which converts to $80-$90 usd.
@MaartenT
@MaartenT 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jonathan-fw6ty I know that VAT isn't included in the US and that it comes on top of the games in most states, but games were 60 € for the longest time in Europe, just like they were/are $60 in the US. Also, this was not meant to be whining about it, at least not from my side, just as info that Europe had a price jump last gen on Playstation (and again this gen for Sony published games) and that BotW and Super Smash already were more expensive than the other Nintendo published games at the beginning of the Switch era in Europe. It's the same thing as what people are now complaining about in the US, a more expensive game because it's Zelda. So I was not talking about the actual prices, but about the price jumps. But yes, I know video game prices in places like Canada and Australia are terrible, I honestly feel for the people there. Especially Australia has gotten terrible prices for years now as far as I'm aware. And I actually used to import from Canada sometimes years ago for games that didn't release over here, not sure how viable that still is.
@Mermete8
@Mermete8 Жыл бұрын
@@Jonathan-fw6ty What matters is the usual salaries of the given country. VAT or not, the same product can cost significantly more or less compared to an income. When would you stop buying games for 1 jungleboogies? When you have 15, 10 or just 5 jungleboogies to live for a whole month? People whine on the internet for a reason: entertainment is expensive, yet everyone wants to enjoy their life. it's rude to laugh at poor people

Kyle reminded me of just how different Nintendo's approach is from, say, Microsoft's when it comes to "Directs." I think some people viewed the Developer Direct as a bit indulgent and overproduced, while the Nintendo Direct was underproduced. Nintendo presentations have been more developer-focused in the past (especially with indies) but most of the time they're just railing off trailers and announcements. I agree that it would be cool to see Retro Studios actually show up with some insight into their game, but I guess once you open that door you have to go all-in and Nintendo realizes that their standard formula still works. That said, I do wish they'd do something about the voiceover guy.

I genuinely miss how silly directs used to be. Felt like that even when they were "struggling", they were still having fun. Directs have gotten a bit too clean. Give me a clip of Koizumi shaking ass. That'd be something unique.

In reality if Nintendo released Advanced 1+2 Reboot Camp on it's original release date it wouldn't be very controversial. Maybe a small handful of bored people would complain because they can, but I hope most people would be smart enough to not associate a bright cartoon war game with real war. Would releasing the game then would've be awkward? Yes and I'm sure there would be missed sales because of that.

I am a bit put out by Ganondorf's voice (if that's indeed meant to be Ganondorf's). We have a number of vocal utterances from Ganondorf over the years that have established a certain tone for him. It's possible they were all produced by Japanese actors which is why it's difficult for a Western actor to match.

The hell do you want them to do? Can it? Lol people like you are the people the rest of the internet mocks for being the reason this game was delayed at all. Do you think this is the only game to capitalize on war or make it in a fun presentable manner? What industry do you think we're in? You must live in the most absolute first world bubble if you think releasing a videogame about war a year later is something ugly. If you thought the tension about the war was going to last and be the same a year later then you really don't have much experience. Everybody saw this happening from a mile away and the only people I've seen surprised by this are the same ones that are put off by the concept of Advance Wars in the first place.

I agree so much with Switch era Nintendo's marketing being largely charmless, though they're games are still good. It's clean and efficient and clearly it's working for them but damn do I miss how fun and wacky it was during the Wii U/3DS days. Iwata staring at a bunch of bananas, roasting themselves and their fans during the E3 Robot Chicken sketch, Iwata and Reggie having a DBZ fistfight to promote Smash Bros, the Star Fox puppet show...I get how tired people got of slower-paced presentations in the past, but I really don't mind cutting away from the trailer barrage for a minute to hear Eiji Aonuma talk about how they're challenging Zelda's conventions or having a fun segment where Miyamoto finds Pikmin in his shirt pocket or something.

A fifteen pound difference, the wrong way around, let's be honest.
