Couple of corrections to this story, this is from someone close to the case. - Jared robbed Ashley in 2013, not 2011 - Mario decided to check the basement after a friend of Ashley's started looking through the trash outside for her. A saw blade was found - James and Barbara weren't arrested. They walked in to be booked and bonded out immediately - Part of Ashley wasn't burned in the fire pit, no one knows what happened (except the obvious) - Barbara only served 29 days, James 14 - Ashley's parents are offering a cash reward for information leading to the return of Ashleys remains

@@tomrl6674 Special consideration might have been taken do to the fact that they were his parents. What the two of them did was obviously wrong, but they did it to protect their son. I don't think they had anything to do with the homicide itself. Anyone with kids can probably relate (at least a little.) The fact that they helped cut up the body makes it a lot harder to have any sympathy for them though.

The fact that helping dispose of a corpse carries a max 5 year sentence but perjury carries a max life sentence is disgusting. Lying to a government, who constantly lies to us should not be seen as worse than the end of a human beings life.
@mattgonzales774
@mattgonzales774 Жыл бұрын
i agree with you 100%. i can understand how lying to detectives to cover up or impede a murder investigation, or filing a false police report, is illegal and should carry some sort of punishment. as for perjury, i can also understand its' illegality, especially if the act of lying under oath results in a dangerous criminal being found not guilty and being set free to harm more people. but even if that's the case, life in prison is what murderers are sentenced for literally KILLING. lying is not the same as murdering! 'life in prison' for perjury compared to the absurdly light sentence of 5 years for disposing a human body is ridiculous and quite backwards. how is lying under oath worse than desecration of a corpse?! again, even if those lies result in a murderer being found not guilty, it's a bit extreme to give the life sentence to the liar as a replacement for the murderer, right?

The compounding levels of injustice in this case magnify the wickedness of this case. First, Jared returned horrific evil for Ashley's tremendous compassion. Second, Jared's parents worsened the crime by making it harder to execute justice and by depriving Ashley's family of healing closure. Finally, the judge magnified the injustice by giving insufficient punishment to Jared's parents.

When your defence lawyer is in tears listening your victim's mother you know you’ve done something vile. His whole family are pretty disgusting and his parents got off far too lightly no matter what his father did for a job. Surely his dad should lose his pension for this behaviour. His mother sounds as sorry as the average person is when they bump into someone in a shop. Please don’t get into a relationship with a person thinking 'you can change them', the only person you can change is yourself.
@TwoBs
@TwoBs 2 жыл бұрын
Yea, a lot of people give defense lawyers shit for the people they have to defend as if they always wanted to defend pieces of shite as their dream job since childhood or something, but for the majority of them, it’s a job that someone has to do. Like a dirty job, basically - things normal people wouldn’t want to do or couldn’t bring themselves to do, but a job that has to be done no matter what because everyone in the US deserves the right to a fair trial. No matter how heinous, they have a right to be represented. The people going into that field know they’re taking a risk and know that a lot of their cases will be lost, but they have to pretend to try. Seeing that grown man stand there next to his client in tears as the mother read her victim impact statement I think says it all, and he probably felt a lot of pain and guilt himself for having to defend such a POS. I don’t think he’s losing sleep for losing that case for his client at all, and I wouldn’t blame him one bit if he breathed a sigh of relief that the verdict was given in the manner that it was. As for the parents, I think it’s safe to say that connections played a part. They knew someone somewhere that lightened that slap on the wrist even more. Makes you wonder what else has been covered up with that bunch.

Someone always says this about people who get caught for anything. What evidence is this based on? If they were socio/psychopaths, they wouldn't have helped their son, because it was entirely to their detriment, and he, as someone who IS likely a manipulative psychopath, appealed to their empathy, and begged and pleaded for their help. And they were very stupid and helped him. That's why they put up with him their whole lives. That's not how psychopaths act...it just isn't. They likely had empathy, and they likely felt bad for what they did. Doesn't make it OK, doesn't mean they should've done it, doesn't mean they aren't bad people for doing it. There's no specific reason to think they don't actually feel bad about what they did. It's human nature to do stupid shit and feel bad for it. Yep - even really really, really, awful stuff. Especially when a family member is emotionally manipulating you into doing it. Not an excuse, just an explanation.

I'm actually in tears because of Ashley's mother. Sadly, though, none of her words even phased him. I'm not trying to be a downer but my brother's a psychiatrist and people like that don't care when you scream at their face. If anything he got off on it and he thought he had "won". If it was catharsis for her then I hope that she got some kind of relief, however small. But if anybody reads this know when you're dealing with narcissists, sociopaths, or both showing them your pain like this does nothing except give them their jollies. The best way to get at them is to make them feel like they are unremarkable, unmemorable, unintelligent. A narcissists and sociopaths worst fear is to be deemed unremarkable or ordinary in any way. May God not have mercy on his soul. Even as a Christian I know I shouldn't say that but I can't bring myself to wish any type of Mercy on him.

That victim impact statement by her mom is one of the most genuine I've ever seen. I know everyone experiences and processes grief differently and often don't want to give the killer even more of themselves by showing extreme pain. But I can't imagine being calm while addressing someone who murdered someone I love. I give Christine kudos for laying into him like that. He deserves it. I hope she finds some semblance of peace.
