Haha, nothing scarier than real life I suppose. Everyone experiences failure at some point. It doesn't define you.
@jessmess71704 жыл бұрын

@MidnightSonnet4 жыл бұрын
@@jessmess7170 I hear what you're saying about failure. Trust me, I know what it feels like. Thing is, you have to understand that our views on "failure" were instilled in us at a young age. You mentioned how your parents look at you differently for dropping out of college. That right there is a key sign to me that they bashed into your brain the idea that failure is bad. Again, trust me, I get where you're coming from. My mother made me feel like a disappointment, a burden, and a nuisance growing up. There was severe punishment if she found me at fault for something, even if I did nothing wrong. She also never had faith in me that I could do anything right on my own. Whenever I had a book report, big history assignment, or a science project, she'd do most of the work. Not because I asked her to, but because she wanted me to get the best grade possible. Thing is, I didn't really do anything, so the grade never felt warranted, nor did I retain much from working on the assignment. Whenever I told her I could do it myself, she'd either look at me oddly or say, "Yeah, but don't you want an A on it?" As if to say I couldn't get an A on it if I did the assignment on my own. I remember her keeping me up until the wee hours of the night writing notes for a project or test, even if I was only half awake. Gray in the comment above is right about "failures" not defining you. They don't, no matter how much you've been led to believe they do. Your response TO the alleged "failure" defines you as a person. If you respond with shame, guilt, and anger towards yourself, then that's how you'll respond to every single mistake or decision you make that you may deem as negative. However, if you respond in a healthy way by saying, "this didn't turn out the way I'd planned, but that's fine. I can learn from my mistakes and start over," you're giving yourself permission to move on and be okay with setbacks. Sometimes what we perceive as "negative" can and does have positive impacts. Like you dropping out of college. You had your reasons, right? Whatever they may be, it's what you felt was right for you at the time. I dropped out of college after only a year. I felt forced to go right after high school, because I had to stay on my mom's insurance. But I didn't find any joy in going because there was no motivation and I wanted to go when I felt ready. I honestly just wanted a job at the time, not an education. I've never been back because my career path is in something that has no college courses, unless it's a specialized institute (which do exist, but are ridiculously expensive, so no thanks). Your parents don't own your life anymore. They don't get to decide if you're "worthy" of their approval. If they're disappointed in you, that's their problem, not yours. You owe them nothing. A lot of parents and adults in general like to play guilt trips on people, especially kids, saying that we "owe" a great debt to our parents simply for raising us -- something we had no say in. Why should we owe our parents anything simply because they birthed and raised us? And a number of parents did a poor job at that, I might add. So don't let your parents guilt trip you. They're just ensuring the trauma they caused you as a kid still lingers in you as an adult. I still feel it to this day, but I've had lots of counseling to help heal from it. I'm not there yet, but slowly making my way. Healing is never easy, but worth it. Sorry for the wall of text. I'm very passionate about this topic and like to help people. :) I wish you well on your healing journey.

@@MidnightSonnet It sounds like your mom has narcissistic personality disorder like mine does :) Your story about her doing your homework makes me think of how my mom literally wouldn't let me cut my own food until I was at least in middle childhood because I "did it wrong". She also did this when I would try to cook or help her cook. She only let me help her for Thanksgiving or other big holiday dishes and when she had surgery. Even then, I would only chop vegetables, bring her dishes and ingredients, bring the dish to the oven... She never let me cook on my own. In adulthood, when I tried to do it myself, she would yell at me for being wrong and stop me or take over. I also remember trying to make myself breakfast and her saying "You are so impatient. Couldn't you just wait? I was going to do it!" I basically had to almost run away at like 27 years old. She tried to control me financially and I was basically trapped with her because of that and her constantly degrading me until I was in a depression so deep I could only sleep and work. I live with my fiancee now and struggle with basic tasks. Every time something comes up like it's breakfast, time to eat, if my fiancee doesn't cook for me, I eat chips or whatever because the idea of cooking fills me with dread that I can't control. When I do cook, it tastes good to me and I'm told it tastes good by others. So I can physically cook, but my mind won't let me unless I am in an unusually good mood and feel productive. It's embarrassing. It's also embarrassing that I can't do the things I love. I stay in bed a lot out of pure habit that I can't seem to break. When I lived with my mom, my room was my only place away from her because I kept the door locked. Ugh... I barely function as an adult. I'm stuck in a retail job I hate because it's financial security and I managed to somehow get full time. I feel traumatized by the sheer volume of people that yell at me every day, especially in this pandemic. I feel like I will live the rest of my life in constant stress and anxiety
@MidnightSonnet4 жыл бұрын
@@jessmess7170 Oh hun, I'm so sorry you had to deal with that growing up. I can relate, as you know. I have zero confidence and I'm always putting myself down. My fiance is patient as hell with me and always tries to help me build it up, which can be hard for him because he also had a traumatic childhood (abusive father and an enabling mother). We work together to help each other through our traumas and triggers. My mother is way better now than she was before. Something must've clicked in her head. She's no longer a huge angry, paranoid mess. Just slightly less so, so she's pleasant and agreeable. My sister holds her trauma way differently than I do. She's completely detached from emotions, though she shoves it so much that it always ends up bursting into a panic attack down the line. She also keeps that to herself and doesn't seek help. She hates talking about emotions, feelings, and serious issues. She's been with her boyfriend for 13 years (same length and my fiance and I), but they have no plans to move in together and they claim they never argue, which is a red flag to any psychologist. Whenever someone tries to talk to her about her life, she shuts down. I wanna help her, but she doesn't want it, so I can't force it. I's her life, after all. I tell you this tale as a warning, in case you haven't seen a therapist. It's so important to see one. My sister has never been to one and she's suffering big time. She's also anorexic. I've been to many therapists, so I know the benefits. For your sake, hun, please seek out a therapist you connect with and be okay with showing emotion to them. We all hold trauma differently, so we need specialized ways of healing from it. It's possible, albeit slow as hell. You're worth it, hun. Life's too short to live in the past.

I'm writing stories with very dark topics and one has a really messed up story of how one of the main female character's older and only sister ran away and ended up being abducted and brainwashed by the main antagonist, he made her his "plaything" for 12 years. That's 12 years that this woman missed out on life because she was brainwashed. When the main characters get her back, it doesn't start out well, not only do they have to get her out of the brainwashing, they have to throw her in a mental hospital because she needs time to recover from the trauma and if she sees anyone she knew including her sister it can hurt her head due to the flushing of memories. So it's pretty sad because her younger sister can't see her after 12 years. Oh and they do end up killing the guy who did this to her, he actually gets resurrected and the girl that he abused for 12 years kills him for good. I just wanted to say that a story with sexual abuse can be a sad story with great writing, I think as long as it's written with respect and not shock value it should be okay. I'm actually glad I saw these types of comments because now when I write the disturbing parts I know to make sure it doesn't sound disrespectful to real victims and sounds realistic and pretty serious and that the abuser gets the punishment he or she deserves. And the warning thing I absolutely agree with, I want to find a way it put a warning in my books if they have very dark topics such as sexual abuse.

But other kinds of abuse and violence are perfectly okay? It's either all okay, or none of it is. You can't pick and choose. As a rape survivor myself, I still find that media containing sexual abuse and rape is perfectly fine. The shock value of it sometimes makes it better, because that's what it is; shocking. I would feel ridiculously alone if I were to suffer this and no one around has any concept of what I went through (unless they also experienced it) because it's too taboo a subject to portray. I feel like it needs to be brought up. Obviously I would prefer it be delicately and thoughtfully done, but even then, like I said, other kinds of violence aren't handled that way, so why should this be any different? Because you could argue that victims of physical violence or friends and family of people who are murdered or committed suicide would be too sensitive to these themes and they shouldn't be portrayed either. Yet no one ever complains as passionately about that.

Everything from the children indeed and sea life land life each other. Litterally everything. Also here's an even more disturbing thought who's to say those children were not products of the guests themselves. They come onto the maw to indulge themselves their gluttony and forbidden desires. Nothing is off limits. Maybe a childs parent may eat the child in the maw.
@Kaycee-Bee964 жыл бұрын
(LN spoilers)i think it was confirmed in the dlc that most of the children get turned into the nomes and would tend to the engine of the maw to keep it moving, but there was a theory floating around that most of the unidentifed meat that the guests eat is actually other guests. i think the theory started when people pointed out that the large chunks of meat in the kitchen level almost resembled a similar texture to the skin of the guests. they were being tricked(or brainwashed) into eating at the maw, but those who chose to sleep in the small rooms got killed and turned into the foods that the other guests eat. imo, this theory is by far more disturbing then the theory that theyre eating the children

I do agree with some of those but there are parts of your explanation that are -PROBABLY- incomplete/wrong(?). **Spoiler Warning for those who are not familiar with the full story of Among the Sleep** Tbh, I thought of the toddler seeing those humanoid monsters and talking animals as the toddler's overactive imagination. And the devs of that game quite cleverly portrayed it. Their toys and other real life items that were in their house appeared throughout their journey continuously. Their most precious memories were highlighted by significant items that were part of that certain memory (Music Box, Story Book(?), etc, etc.) And their mother, whenever intoxicated, becomes highly unstable, violent and destructive. Which is an almost direct parallel to what a monster would be to a young infant, mind. There was a short scene in a painting in an area in the game of a woman who drank from a well who then turned into a humanoid, dark monster soon after. Signifying that The toddler's mother turns into a "monster" after drinking a kind of "weird water" from a mysterious source - in this case, an eerie, mystical well and im speaking in a way that a child would imagine when blissfully ignorant of subjects such as intoxication and alcohol. Drinking her woes and heartache with bottles of alcohol as a coping mechanism. From what, im not entirely sure. For there are a lot of reasons for her to grieve and mourn over. Such as her failed marriage, stress from taking care of both her and her child's needs, and other types of burdens. The father of our protagonist was implied to be separated from the mother-child duo. But was still probably alive as hinted from the scene at the beginning of the game where the mother hesitantly left from feeding their child their b-day cake to answering a knock at their door. After a while, we hear quiet talking that quickly turns into an argument, the child's perspective shaking and distorting to show that the child was scared. The argument ended with the mother yelling what seems to be "GET OUT!", A harsh slam of the door following after. In a few moments, the mother came into view, carrying a present that was fondly wrapped with pastel colours. That was the father's first appearance. Which unfortunately, can be easily overlooked and forgotten because of its slight subtlety. But who else is there in the game that would know our protagonist's b-day other than their own mother? The other parent of course! (Unless we were procreated like a UVF) The other time, was with our little companion known as Teddy. His tone of voice was calm, slow and fond. And throughout our journey, was like a support pillar and a literal flashlight against the dark. In the ending scene, we saw the mother against the morning light, sobbing to herself and sitting on the floor with her back on the side of a counter. Surrounded with empty bottles of alcohol. When we interact with her, she lashes out. Only to recoil when she saw us apologizing and mumbling out incoherent words. When we go past her and towards the knocking of the door, it would open and a familiar voice would greet us. It was identical to Teddy's voice! And when the voice took notice of the damaged state of the teddy, (one of which was the father's b-day present for the toddler) he mentioned fixing the toy for him. Also implying that the voice in the door was familiar with both our protagonist and our toy companion and was most likely the other parent. After all, that was his b-day present for his child. Me: **Looks at my **-LONG-** rant** **Realizes that I have literally said too much** _fUcK_ Sooooo..... Uh...... Major Spoiler Warning.. I guess.....? lol

Dark Souls was my savior game. I had never truly socialized well, i grew up in a small country town where my odd love of insects and an intellectual attitude as a kid netted me one of the worst kinds of isolated childhoods. I shared nothing in common, not even favorite drinks, with the kids at school and these were the only young adults I'd ever truly interact with on a daily basis. On top of that, I never meshed well with the church and the youth leader there was an absolute psychopath that would use me as a 'black sheep' example. He'd dub certain kids as "very Christlike" when they would target me. When my mother finally confronted him, he acted as if he was doing me a favor. The teachers at school, mostly being parents and friends of the parents of most of the children basically turned a blind eye until my father fought for a position at the schoolboard. We couldn't move. I was stuck. Outweighed, outvoted, absolutely isolated, destitute, I still have the scars they inflicted on me both physically and mentally. Physically in actual scars I can point to on my hands and long-lasting paranoid schizophrenia for the mind. Dark Souls resonates with me. I am by myself against a world that hates me for existing and tries to kill me in cheap, unexpected ways. Yet, as such in the game, I carry on even if it is simply to say "because I can". I carry on and spite the world for it's attempts to smite me. I feel myself as I drudge through the crap and gore of that desolate world, seeing nothing but a parallel to the real world around me. Nothing but waste, filth, garbage, and worthless dregs that try to drag me down to the rotted, stinking earth and bury me there. But instead, I grab serpents by the throat and make them my pets. Playing that game made me realize it was *always* this way, and *always* would be this way. It is but me, my will, and my drive to succeed and finish. This world will have to wait until I'm a decrepit, dying man in a sunken, rotted bed before it can take me. Do your best, Humanity. You won't get me.

Ram Kitten It's a difficult subject, and is highly didturbing and has s high shock value. Any time a game uses these ideas it is going to be on lists like this, there are plenty of dark and mature stories around in games. I could conjecture that deep down some of these games were created by people trying to deal with trauma in their own lives, in a way that is, ultimately, harmless. But considering it provoked you to think about it, I would say it has done its job.
@OneReallyGrumpyJill5 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicMonk I mean, I talk about it because it annoys me because it is a cheap writing technique. Also, no, I doubt that people with trauma will write about their character reliving what happened to them and then not getting a happy ending. That sounds like ticket straight to suicide.
@dazai-san475 жыл бұрын
@@OneReallyGrumpyJill A lot of survivors write dark and fucked up stories, and they don't always have a happy ending. Speaking as someone with a lot of friends who've suffered trauma they don't deserve, many of them write twisted stories to help them cope with what happened to them. You can't speak for all trauma survivors, and claiming that none of them (when in fact a LOT of them do, and are even encouraged by therapists to do because fiction is a safe medium and writing is an excellent catharsis) would write their own trauma is both extremely generalizing and just straight up incorrect. It's also a really pointless argument to say it was only done for shock value or that it's a cheap writing technique because you can say that about any other kind of abuse or writing because you can make that argument about EVERYTHING. In fact, most of the time people will say that it's done badly or just for shock in pretty much any work depicting sexual abuse, no matter if it was actually done pretty well. At the end of the day it's all fiction and it doesn't matter. It's not real, and no matter who wrote it or why it was written, no real person was hurt in the creation of it.

I feel like many people don't realize that kids don't realize what's wrong with having relationships with adults. they feel in love, they feel correct and that everyone else is just trying to ruin things. Sexual or relationshiptrauma is not always obvious. Sometimes, it's silent. Sometimes, it's even a child enjoying a relationship they see as forbidden for no reason other than to be controlling over the child, and adults use this to take advantage of the children. What's strange I tried to check a more concrete info on OFF not too much spoilers just to get a better idea of this peculiar Scout looking grown up Ness and the perplexing world he lives in... Not much just a few Videos of it including a pubescent Markiplier going by far to play it... is it that obscure? Again despite this I didn't watch it all nor a bit I am that interested now, not wanting spoilers due to people keep mentioning that it's something needing to truly experience yourself, a hidden gem and it will "leave you without words." Someone already gave me a link except the problem being the device that I am using probably isn't compatible I used to have a laptop but that was soon dispatched... I'll jump on board though I won't lose interest.
@MsNightmaregirl15 жыл бұрын
@@yourcordialvermillionchapw2398 unfortunately yes it is really that obscure, mostly because it originally was in french I think. @brandon roberts I'd say that's subjective. Misao does have dark themes such as sexual assault, bullying, etc. Perhaps it was rather obvious for you but for others it may not be. I had never heard of most of these and found the video really interesting. I don’t think I’d play any of them because I’m the biggest baby when it comes to horror but I really love games with great story. I’d love to write for video games just because I love how the medium lets the players explore so many themes and topics and is able to give them choice and real connection to the story. Instead of just watching a movie like everyone else and having no bearing on what happens (which can also be good, not saying it ain’t, but I’m just particularly inspired by video games). So yeah, great video and I hope your situation is working out for you and I wish you all the best.

@SatyrToon Animation *SPOILERS* I think you have a good point for the first three chapters. I have to say, I’ve absolutely fell in love with your channel lately, I started watching your videos earlier this year and I’ve admired the dedication and hard work you’ve put in them. I also admire your courage to talk about your problems with anxiety and depression, especially in your Night in the Woods video (I hope that’s the name of the game lmao I can’t exactly search it up rn because I’m writing this comment) but anyways I realized how touched I was about that video and how you fought your desire to commit suicide and I’m HONESTLY SO GLAD YOU DIDNT, and I loved your heart to heart discussion at the end of that Depressing TV Episodes video and how you connected with your viewers (not many KZbinrs do that nowadays), and I’ve even went back and watched some creepy pasta readings of yours and I have to say I love your video on the Ronald McDonald Hospital video it actually had me hooked because of your emotions put into it, but anyways I’m pretty much rambling at this point and dude tbh I don’t really do this sort of comment about how much I love a channel thing unless I REALLY feel emotionally connected to a channel or video but all I have to say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE continue to do what you love, we your fans enjoy your content and will be here through all your struggles! It saddens me to hear about your job but I guarantee you you’ll pull through with a solution, I believe in you! Oh and btw, I made it to the end of the video lmao XD.
