I remodeled our house and used Pergo Outlast+. Very expensive but best investment! It is waterproof, scratch resistant, stain resistant and a very important feature is it has built-in padding that absorbs shock and sound or noise which is good for people walking with heels or heavy shoes/sandals as well as dogs running or playing. Easy to clean and very pet-friendly.

we had floor headaches when we fixed the living room. Flooring is not easy. we were so into wood and changed our mind radically and chose a plastic carpet with a dark wood look. Superb! Nice to walk on, easy to clean and the room became quieter. So from someone who likes wood, I don't regret plastic carpet. The most expensive thing we looked at came from Finland 1500 skr/m2

I have small house. I use vinyl tile planks (yung parang makapal at textured na linoleum) kasi nag-iiba ang trends every 5 to 10 yrs. 10 yrs ago it was reddish brown wood color pero dahil nauso ang whites and natural wood color, I changed the planks. Madali tanggalin, madali mag-install ulit lalo sa gaya kong babae. I love redecorating my little paradise. I never had issues sa mga umaangat or scratches. My neighbors on the other hand have ceramic tiles installed in their house for over 2 yrs, pag lumalamig na panahon, may umaangat until recently lahat ng tiles umangat at nagcrack nalang - maybe due to thermal expansion. So I'm still happy I opted to vinyl planks.

Wood laminates or more known as snaplock laminates can really be problematic when exposed to water, I work for property insurance claims management in the US and that’s like the usual problem they encounter with the floor. If it’s cupping, it’s usually no more salvageable and needs to be replaced instead. Engineered hardwood can be resanded, though, as long as the veneer is atleast 30mm thick. Anyway, great content, I took courses about these and I mostly agree with what you said there.

30mm (1") is the overall thickness. i think you meant a top layer of 2.5-6mm to enable resanding.

Years back I installed Pergo flooring in one of our houses in the US, was rather easy and fun project. Not to mention saving a few thousand dollars since over half of the typical cost would be attributed to labor.

Yikes! We had a similar issue. Culprit: a cracked plastic pipe fitting inside a multipoint heater. I hope manufacturers change their pipe fittings to brass or copper to avoid costly floodings in houses. If you find a better brand of heater, please update us. It will save a lot of houses.

I am here in the U.S and here most contractors are recommending SPC with 100% waterproof! Also, make sure you get good brands because you will only spend one time on your home and don't think cheap because like what happened to you.... you need to start over and pay again for another flooring. SPC is for high traffic meaning really good. (it's also luxury) The wear and tear are high! wear and tear layer is important also, So make sure you get at least 20mm wear and tear. I bought my 2nd house here in California so I am always researching for good materials. No wood if you know your area will get flooded lol. Some brands are designed even soaking for water in a day... Just do your research just don't listen to people, especially bloogers=) If they know and they did their research they will not have problems....

I put cheap laminate in my bedrooms and living area and it only cost me about $1000. I did understand that this was a temporary solution because it was cheap and easy to install and I had neither time nor money before needing to move in. I just finished tiling the Kitchen dining area, that was only done enough to get the kitchen working before moving in. I'm thinking about doing a Wood look tile for the rest of the house once I recover from tiling the kitchen area. Being able to pay someone else to do it would be even better, because I hate tiling.

I chose LVP for my living room flooring, for me it's still the most durable. At least kahit bumaha ok lang. Hindi naman sobrang mainit sa living room and bedroom kaya ok na at least namop ko pa with water. Pagdating sa scratches ng furniture ok din naman di madali magasgas. And hindi sya masyado mahal.

i put wood laminate in my living room here in belgium, 20 years ago and untill now maganda pa rin ang pag kakalapat,, malalaki ang dining set ko tapos malaki ang sofa and i moved them when im cleaning the flour , i clean it with water once a week, maganda talaga,, kaya nga im looking same matirials para ilagag ko dyan sa bahay namin sa pinas,, thank po it help a lot mayrona pala dyan sa pinas

ever thought of looking into ULTRA floors? (havwood/valinge brand) it's a hybrid crossover of MDF laminates and engineered wood flooring. It's durable, scratch-proof, waterproof, inexpensive, without having the ugly repeats of a vinyl that still gives you that realistic luxury look. Also, i suggest applying a DPM primer first on the concrete slab before floating the floors. This will serve as a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from sipping out from the ground to your floors OR utilize an underlayment that comes with a vapor barrier. Moisture can cause buckling, cupping or cracks.

HDF or compositek is a lot more stable and is ideal for humid areas such as the philippines since the material does not react to the humidity as much as solid wood does. This is also due to the synthetic construction of the flooring. Valinge Woodura -- super cool stuff!

Even if the Laminate Wood/Eng Wood is waterproof, if your room gets flooded, the laminate may get some protection but the issue is water retention under the laminate which will result in bacterial growth and "kulob" smell of the room. So the best bet is still the regular tile.

You forgot to get a sample of WPC and SPC. The SPC is the new generation Vinyl (upgraded LVT) that matches the performance of the Engineered Wood with a much more cheaper cost. And it's also TNG, and has it's own backing pad layer so there is no need to put some extra layer of insulation. It's durable, scratch resistant at some point and water resistant at some capacity so it's a perfect compromise between performance, comfort, beauty and of course price as it's cheap and I've been using it in my low cost renovation projects. It makes the room premium on the flooring side. I've seen hotels adopting it and you can see the performance of the SPC's. I use the cheap Chinese made though, not the branded ones but it is still a competitive option.

Aside from being expensive, wood needed maintenance, color tends to fade dun sa area na expose sa lights. Pag may carpet ka it show o dun sa area may sun light, near windows at tapat ng pinto mostly sa sala nay may big glass doors.

I wish I had used solid wood on all my floor coverings . It certainly feel better on my feet. I hesitated using it in the kitchen and bathroom because of my fear of warping when it gets wet. I have 3/4 thick red Brazilian cherry . It’s 15 years since install and maintenance free. Soaked leftover wood to test if it will warp but didn’t even after a week..

Here are the considerations, first is cost, second is ease of installation, third is durability, Fourth is resistance to water, 5th is ability to repair if it's damaged, And of course 6th is appearance. Though not necessarily in this order it depends on your priorities If you've got deep pockets and don't care about the cost that maybe last issue If you're going to do it yourself then ease of use maybe second and so forth

I think you also forgot to mention 2 cons of wood planks. 1. Prone on getting air pockets 2. Prone to temperature changes, it shrinks during summer and it swells during rainy/cold temperature..

All our water-heating units that are not in basements have pans and drains and sensors. Did you install these when you repaired your unit? And we too took the wood flooring journey 3 years ago when we gut-rehabbed two adjacent buildings. We went with engineered wood, Teckton White Oak. 5/8" x 5" with a 4.5mm wear layer. So far so good.

Here is America, more people including me are choosing Luxury vinyl plank. It’s durable, waterproof, very practical cause it’s scratch proof and most importantly is affordable. I guess it really depends on brand, our luxury vinyl plank here is scratch free and we even put it on our bathroom,talagang ngstand sya sa moist and water.

Vinyl when exposed consistenly to heat eventually cracks. Yan ang gamit namin sa room. Natanggal na yung dikit sa floor and parang crumbly na sya dahil exposed din sa init lalo na yung near sa glass door going to terrace.

I wouldn't use glue for vinyl. Use the one that floats and clicks together such as LVP

Even if the flooring is waterproof, it still has to all be removed to dry out subfloor or concrete floor throughly or else mould will start growing under flooring.

Also, among all these flooring tile is one the one that does get burn easily, correct? And probably if your house gets burned, tiles along with those made in cement and metal are the only one that stays and can still be utilized?

Naku ganyan din nangyari sa water heater (same ng unit mo) ko. The type of water heater na ganyan yata ay hindi kaya ang merun constant pressure (when not being used) na medyo mataas. Dapat installed siya before the water valve.

Popular sa US ang luxury vinyl. Walang wood ang luxury vinyl. Anything na may wood pag nabasa mag sweswell at di na yan maayos. Ang laminate may wood yan. Tile is ok for bathrooms and kitchen.
