Action Man was originally just the localised version of G.I. Joe over here in the UK but then it got turned into its own thing separate from G.I. Joe
@jeffreycoogan093 жыл бұрын
@Jake K That is kind of what happened to (G.I. Joe) in Japan. When Japanese toy company Takara first obtained their International ''G.I. Joe'' licensees in the early 1970's the line was dubbed "Combat Joe". Takara discontinued the Combat Joe line after only a few years do to poor sales. But Takara decided to utilize the Combat Joe molds to create an offshoot of the line. This offshoot line would became (Henshin Cyborg), which means Transforming Cyborg in English. The ''Henshin Cyborg'' line was a huge success and helped to put the Takara toy company on the map.

Haven’t finished watching yet? Did they have one for the show “Emergency”? Loved the intro to that when I was a kid. The fire house alarm tones, and the air horn when the fire trucks rolled out. Then Randolph Mantooth calling into Rampart hospital, being told to inject patient with 50 cc’s of something or other. Good stuff

My grade-school years were in the 1970's. Seeing some of these brought back a lot of nice memories. A couple of mine were Superman and The Six Million Dollar Man. The Bionic Woman would have been risky to be seen with, lol.

During the years of 1978 to 1983, I remember seeing these lunchboxes in my school: Six Million Dollar Man, Dukes of Hazzard, Planet of the Apes, KISS, Bee Gees, Marvel Superheroes, Universal Movie Monsters, Star Wars New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Pac Man, G.I. Joe, Welcome Back Kotter, Pele (soccer player). Sometime after that, whenever I visited my younger cousin, he would have Fall Guy, then Street Hawk.

My mother picked out me and my brother's lunch boxes. Did she pick Star Wars, The Hulk, Superman, or Battle Star Galactica? I wish! She bought A Walton's and Happy Days lunch box because she liked those shows. Happy Days was cool, Fonzi was cool so my brother got that one which left me with the Walton's. I scratched off faces, covered faces with stickers. Then finally one day I "lost" the lunch box. My mother wasn't too happy but we went to the store and replaced the lame Walton's lunchbox with a Pac-man lunchbox that I picked out, as it should have been in the first place.

Speaking of beat-downs: My wife had that Mickie Mouse/ Disney school bus lunchbox as a kid. One day on the bus, on the way to school her younger brother was getting bullied and punched by an older boy. She told him to climb under the bus seats to get away, while she proceeded to beat the shit out of the older boy with her Disney lunchbox. This kid was twice her size, but she beat him so hard that the he cried - and didn't stop. When the bus driver tried to have some of the high school kids break it up, she beat them with the lunchbox, too. lmao. I recently found one of these online and bought it for her for "for old times sake."

@Bill Gritz When you look at it. Almost all of the McDonaldland characters were ripped off from the H.R. Pufnstuf/ living Island characters. Mayor McCheese (H.R. Pufnstuf). Officer Big Mac (Cling and Clang Rescue Racer Crew). The Professor (Dr. Blinky). ''Hamburglar'', a male version of (Wilhelmina W. Witchiepoo). Grimace (Seymour Spider.) ''Grimace'' originally had four arms and was called (The Evil Grimace). Birdie the Early Bird (Stupid Bat). The Gobblins (The Mushrooms). The only two McDonaldland characters that were a not rip off any of the H.R. Pufnstuf characters were ''Ronald McDonald'' and ''Captain Crook''. Although facially ''Captain Crook'' does bear a slight resemblance to the character (Orson Vulture).

@That Junkman 'Julia'' is an American sitcom. that ran on NBC from 1968-1971. The series stared Diahann Carroll. It was very groundbreaking, being that it was the first weekly series to star an African-American woman in a non-stereotypical role. The Hardy Boys were created by American writer Edward Stratemeyer. And first debut in 1927. And have appeared in several mystery series for children and teens. From the 1950's tell just last year, there have actually been six separate Hardy Boys television adaptations.

I had The Waltons when I was younger. I loved that show, but that was when my parents controlled the TV, too. Maybe I was young enough that the bullies didn’t want to hurt a little kid. When ‘76 rolled around, you better believe I begged for a King Kong lunchbox when I saw it at the drugstore. My wife loves Annie, so we’ve got her lunchbox on a shelf in our living room. A week ago, I found a big box of lunchboxes in my hoarder parents’ garage. There were the Hardy Boys… and one you missed for your list… The Osmonds! They had the Six Million Dollar Man in there, and Superman with Christopher Reeve, and THREE Adam-12s! That was a favorite show of mine. Way before CHiPs. Always liked the dispatcher lady who said something on the cop’s radio like “Please see the man at 124 Sycamore about a burglary.” The folks had an Evel Knievel box, too. Did Evel eject from his rocket over Snake River Canyon because he was scared? Who knows. Love the show, Junkman.

When I was a kid Adam-12 was cool. I didn't have that box, but a school mate did. We didn't give him crap, but I think we did laugh at the kid with his head stuck. But Adam-12 was way cool to us kids, we used to play cops and robbers and back then it was cool to be the cops! The next lunchbox though... man... LHOP was not cool back then. (as a grown up, my wife and I got into it a year or so ago. Pretty great show! but not lunchbox worthy, and definite beat down material back then!)

I was so dirt F'n poor I would have been happy as long as it had a thermos. I recall having a plaid red metal lunch box. I do remember one of my siblings having the Waltons. Most of my schoolmates didn't have much money so it was not uncommon to have your lunch in a plain paper sack. In elementary school I was bullied by an older kid for awhile until I had enough and decked him, he got up and kicked the SH**t out of me but he did leave me alone after that. Later on in life I ran into him and we had a good laugh about it. He said he remember me hitting him right on the jaw and knocking him down. He told me he was embarrassed that that little kid knocked him on his ass. Good times.

Some of these lunchboxes you showed certainly didn't seem to appeal to kids, like Adam-12 and The Waltons. Most of these lunchboxes were out before I was born. I was in grade school from 1984-90. I really don't recall seeing anybody at my school beat up over their lunchbox, lol. I never took my lunch to school. I always wanted a cool lunchbox like the kids at school had. Some kids had Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Smurfs, Dukes of Hazzard, Gremlins, Rambo, WWF wrestling, Super Powers, Transformers, and Peanuts, and He-Man. Every time I see them online, or at a flea market or yard sale , it takes me back to old lunchroom memories. By the way, the bird on the McDonald's lunchbox is called Birdie.
