I have been teaching SPED with a self-contained class in the Philippines for over a decade and I think that his video is extremely helpful for its comprehensiveness. I am also preparing myself to teaching in US. You don't know how much this means to me. Thank you!

Thanks so much I'm a retired home health aide. I say this all the time a IEP is the samething as care plan. Aphasia is expressive and receptive. Strokes, Parkinson's disease, Multiple, head injuries and dementia. And you have to know about growth and development I got no help for my son so thank you so much.

Thank you so much. I just started my first year as an ED teacher during covid and I already have four IEPs due. All the time away from school made me feel so ill-prepared and shakey with everything I learned before graduation. This is such a great refresher. So grateful to you.

I am just about to start teaching in a Special Education class for the 2020-2021school year and IEP writing scares me terribly. I am binge watching all your videos during this pandemic lock down. Thank you for making these videos.

Nathaniel Hall why would you be pissed, most kids in special ed have shown a need or lack in one or more areas or have a diagnosis from birth. You would be pissed that people were helping access education in a way that is specific to you? Special education isn’t a punishment, I’m having a hard time understanding your question.

Awesome comment! I will also start teaching in a Special Education Class for the 2020-2021 school year in California. I am also scared of IEP’s. How is it going for yourself? Any tips? Good luck

@@christophermarquez3966 I am still pretty nervous especially with everything going on. I have found some pretty good resources such as txr20.escworks.net/catalog/session.aspx?session_id=59186 really quick as easy modules for guidance this is a Texas course so maybe the regional support in your area has one. Then I joined Special Education Teachers Group on Facebook and there is always resources being shared in there. Hope these help you! Good luck also. If you need any help, please remember to reach out to others with a background in special education or who have been in a SPED position. The paperwork is so intense and can be difficult to understand, so never be afraid to ask for help! You are not alone. Even after 10 years, I still have to ask other people for ideas or suggestions. I loved this video and it was very informational. I am graduating in December and I have had some practice in writing an IEP, but it was hard to understand. Seeing you walk through and explain each portion helped me understand the process of writing an IEP and prepared me more. I also like how you gave a real example IEP because I have always worked off of case studies and they were hard to pull information from since they were not directed towards writing an IEP. Thank you for the video!

As a college student and future SpEd teacher, in your first year as a teacher how do you first assess students and write their IEP's if you do not know them yet? Also, what do you do by the time of the next IEP meeting if said student has not met their projected goals? Thanks.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH3NqpttrdOckLs This video talks about writing goals and touches on the assessment part. You will have to assess based on what you think is best, and write the iep with what you have or what you can gather. When they haven't met their goals you are honest with the team, then write similar goals again without copying anything word for word.
