I'll admit, when Pettersson took the stage, I saw a skinny kid who looked like he was going to hurt himself if the wind blew too hard. Man, was I ever wrong. 2017 has emerged as one of the best draft classes in a while...it's going to be a great ride watching these guys dominate the league and win their share of awards over the next decade.

Which only solidifies the fact that literally no one can predict 100% what an 18yr old highschooler is going to do in the NHL. Aside from the extremely rare generational talent. I still think there should be a rule that you have to be at least 20 to be draft eligible.

I’m a Canes fan, and I must admit, this goal by Nico is unreal. He isn’t undressing an AHL D-Man, hes is undressing Jaccob Slavin, who is considered one of the best if not the best Defensive Defenseman in the world. Don’t count him out either. He just has a really bad supporting cast. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4ucYWp8aNWcfZY

Top 5: Pettersson, Makar/Heiskanen (so close between the 2 idk who to put at 2 and who at 3), Hischier, Suzuki. Pettersson is no question the best, Makar has more offensive potential but Heiskanen has a more rounded game, both will be top 5 dmen and consistent Norris finalists, Hischier will win a selke or 2 and put up 65-75 points a season in his prime, and suzuki will be a good no. 1 centre putting up 70-80 points in his prime. Plus there’s Nolan Patrick who still has 60 point potential

To me its impossible to say who is better between Miro and Makar. They are both great. 1A and 1B to me. Makar is more offensive but Miro is offensive too. Miro is more defensive but Makar holds his own. Cant go wrong with either pick. For right now it has to go to Miro because he has been so instrumental to the Stars being where they are right now.

First thing , great channel and content! Old school perspective here, I grew up with an awesome homer channel covering Vancouver sports. Its segment had some of the greatest local greats doing a half hour show, it was called Sports Page. Cast that I can remember, Barry MacDonald, Dave Randorf, Paul Carson, Craig MacEwen, Blake Price, Dan Murphy, John Shorthouse, and of course the huge favourite Don Taylor. Sorry if I forgot anyone , been so long. Sportsnet and TSN robbed sports page of all it's talent and Vancouver television never really replaced the great sports page cast. I think channels like yours kind of helps fill the void of Vancouver's loss of Sports Page! Maybe see for yourself some old Sports Page segments , Vancouver was lucky to have these local legends covering Vancouver sports. It is missed. You do an awesome job, keep up the good work!

There were some gems that went overlooked, like Pettersson, Makar, and Heiskanen. Chytil, Suzuki, and Necas have been good. But some duds too like Andersson and Patrick imo, and some less-than-stellar picks in Mittelstadt. It was definitely a weird draft looking back.

@talesofsymphonia2953 жыл бұрын
As a Canucks fan, I was devastated that they got shafted from getting the 1st overall pick again in 2017. But in hindsight, that draft worked out for them quite well. I think since Hischier's gone through some injury patches over the past few seasons, his development hasn't been on the same trajectory as maybe the 3rd to 5th picks; he still has been showing really positive signs in his development. He's an All-Star, for sure, but we will see in the next few years if he's able to get to superstar status alongside Heiskanen, Makar and Pettersson.

But Gabe had to get over Spondylitis which took him damn near 3 years to heal from, but now that he's in the NHL and with the Kings he looks amazing. Dude had 7 points in his first 10 games, all the scouts had him going from 3-7ish and they all said he wasn't going to be good bc he can't skate... Dude please do a video on crazy low draft picks that turned into awesome players. Such as Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Mark Stone, I’m sure there are plenty of players like this to make a good video. I think those are some big steals. Datsyuk, like really a HOF player drafted so late is insane!
@justinlast2lastharder7492 жыл бұрын
Datsyuk was only drafted so low because the Red Wings were the only ones that got to scout him. A freak storm prevented other scouts from getting to the game they were supposed to watch.

Every time you talk about the 2017 draft you barley mention Nico Hischier and dismiss him as an ok player, but not that good. You are mistaken, Nico is a future Selke trophy winner and 2-way SUPERSTAR. Imo he won’t be as good as Bergeron, but close. Maybe on the level of a Ryan O’Rielly or Sean Couturier.
@mikeyyyy78963 жыл бұрын
I personally think nico is a better skater and is more skilled than Bergeron so he can bring a better offensive production

I definitely could talk about him more! Now with that being said, I talk about Makar, Miro and Pettersson more because they are objectively on a completely different level than Hischier

This is why fans need to just shut up and cool it sometimes. So many people were frothing at the mouth when Pettersson was draft 5th overall and now he is emerging as the best out of that 2017 draft. I can't wait to see him playing again next year and dominating the league.
@TheNewHope313 жыл бұрын
I'm a devs fan and was pretty disappointed with the Nico pick at the time. I'm so glad now. Not just because he's proven to be a way better pick than Patrick, but I also I think he is an extremely underrated player. Most people don't watch dev games (for good reason), but he has been developing into a premier two-way player. Also, off topic but, having watched a lot of games, I can I don't believe Hughes is a bust. He just looked under-sized and he lacked snipers to finish a lot of the chances he was dishing. His eye for the game and his skating skills are going to help him grow into a phenomenal player.

@rebecca46803 жыл бұрын
@@tomp6879 . Keep in mind we're saying these things with hindsight. As explained in the video, there was no consensus for draft positions in 2017, no one knew where anyone would be drafted. Plus, drafting is always a bit of a gamble because you don't know exactly how these players will adapt and develop. Now we can see that Pettersson should've gone 1st followed by Heiskanen or Makar, then Hischier, but at the time no one really knew. Hischier was considered good enough at the time, and he is doing well now, so him going 1st overall back then is not undeserved.
@jackb98303 жыл бұрын
So far, Elias Pettersson, Miro Heiskanen, and Cale Makar are 3 great players that could maybe be Hall of Famers at some point. Nico Hishier and Robert Thomas are decent players with Hishier maybe catching these other 3. However, guys like Casey Mittelstadt, Cody Glass, and Lias Andersson have been very underwhelming so far and could turn into busts. Worst of all, Nolan Patrick could potentially be one of the biggest busts of all time. Now it's STILL EARLY so I'm not writing any of these guys off. But so far as of now...
