Bought one in January, as my Focus RS just became to uncomfortable for daily driving over the last year. Hyundai has underrated much on this car. As stated gas mileage around city is not that great, but I can pull 32-34mpg on highway/interstate driving. The DCT is surprisingly very, very good. It is as fast as my RS, rides much smoother and more comfortable, and feels lower and more planted on the road. Again, very surprising for a front wheel drive car. Hyundai also underrated the torque output. Stock dynos have shown 258-265 lbs/ft to the wheels. The DCT also has shown slightly more hp and tq over the manual. Again, the car is surprisingly good. There is a lot of small things Hyundai did in the car, from the driving feel, layout of the cockpit, ride quality, etc. that come together to make an amazingly good sport compact car that never fails to put a smile on your face. And if you are a little older like me and have driven manuals all your life and want something a little more relaxing to drive but still fun, this N DCT is the best value on the market.

Traded my GLI 35 manual for this yesterday. I test drove the N DCT a few days prior and then went to the VW dealer and tested the GTI DSG. The manual is a must imo for the GTI or GLI. The N DCT is just on another level, the GTI felt sluggish soft and unrefined by comparison. The engine struggles with the DSG when you stomp it and that does not equate to "refinement" in my book. When an engine makes a lot of noise and vibration but the car does not accelerate very fast, it's less appealing. I also owned two 7th gen GTI's, both manual. The N DCT may be as good as a Golf R, it simply blows the GTI away, in every way. I had to drive them back to back to truly understand what I was missing.
@rwolfcastle3 жыл бұрын
I own a 2021 N /w DCT. AMA I'm a life long manual owner, but I suffer with a chronic pain disorder so the DCT was a compromise. TBH, I don't regret it. The programing is on point, less drama than a DSG at low speeds and bang on at WOT. Pros: - Great engine/trans combo (MT/DCT) - Custom drive modes (A++++ Ralphie!) - The exhaust is amazing even with the DCT (if you enjoy DCT farts and decel pops and bangs) - UI/UX of infotainment - Handling - Room for the wife and kiddos (I'm 5'11") - Immensely fun Subjective: - Interior; I like the interior. All black, black headliner and no sunroof. The interior is well put together no creaks or rattles.Yes, it's plastic but I bought this car for a fun daily. Hyundai should really consider an interior package for those who are really concerned but it could possibly bump a DCT to $36,000 which is to high in my opinion. To be fair a lot of engineering went into the go fast bits. The suspension, engine, trans and performance controls all feel well sorted, all that cost money to put into a production car let alone a Hyundai. This isn't a hopped up base Veloster, it's a purpose built car that Hyundai didn't need to build, and to be honest I wish more manufacturers took this approach to blending fun with performance. - Body design; I honestly felt the 3 door design was a gimmick but it bothers me less now as an owner than I thought it would. People that approach me tend to like it, which I fully expected the opposite. Cons: - Resale; Historically Hyundai doesn't have the best resell value and I don't have a crystal ball. However, the demand for the N is high and demand has a big part to play in value. If I had to bet it will hold value much better than traditional Hyundai's.

Kinda late, but any problems with the car? Still skeptical on hyundai reliability from their engines…. Read the door handle sticks in freezing temps, 6th gear is hard to shift in, rough cold starts, etc. Looking to purchase one soon but the reliability is the deal breaker for me despite their warranty that some dealerships might try to scam you on not repairing shit. Took the DCT on a test drive yesterday and man it’s a beast.

@@JohnDoe-uk7jy the power train seems stout and Ive had zero issues. Just oil changes at this point. I drive her hard and do the maintenance. The Theta II-i (engine) has not been impacted by the recent recalls. The only thing shared between Theta II and the Theta II-i (Engine in all N's) is the block (open deck) and the bore and stroke. Everything else was built for the platform (heads, electronic valve timing, pistons crank etc.) They put a lot of research and testing into this car and my opinion is it really shows.The DCT and MT we're built in house and the DCT is a very well sorted unit. I'd argue best DCT short of a Porsche PPK. With a little over a year of ownership I have zero regrets. So much fun to wring the power outta that little engine and hear it "fart" changing gear and crackling and backfiring like popcorn when downshifting. There is one big thing I've noticed about the new DCT, and that it's ridiculously smooth. It's a little jerky in first when roaming around at low speeds, but from a dead stop, starting out, there was absolutely zero shuddering or any unrefinement. On one hand, we are likely never to see another RS badged Ford in the US again. More recently I thought I'd try to part with the CIvic, only to determine once again, that it's too pefect a car to sell for it's meager worth. The comfort, sensational engine, chassis, driving feel, and capability on snow tires, are a unity of man and machine..But the VN is a very dynamically replete, cheap daily Grin machine with an engine that still sounds like one. While there are still plastics in i30 as well, it has things like wireless charging and heated seats. Also i30 is more mature and practical compared to Veloster N - but this is ofc subjective which one you prefer. This car has really gone up in price in just a couple years. Now, when I consider the "competitors", I think this car is just overpriced. Even if Hyundai underrated its 275hp and its 0-60 time, it's a small, cheapy car. Of course it will be as fast as something like an STI, as it's lighter and smaller, but why is it $35,000? It has a cheap interior, it doesn't have 4 doors, and, as far as I'm concerned, it's a class below the cars people compare it to. This shouldn't even be priced more than a WRX, at $28,000, but it knocks on STI territory.
@Whomecouldntb33 жыл бұрын
They are trying this price point because they think they not have the prestige of the Japanese competition after just a few years.

I sat in the back of a Veloster and it felt pretty chlaustrophobic with NO DOOR behind the driver. If you ever got into an accident, you might be stuck in the car.

You get used to the 3 doors very quickly. As the driver, it feels like a 2 door but as a passenger, you really appreciate the 3rd door.

Sofyan, what's the better powertrain, Hyundai's 2.0T in the Veloster N or the new 2.5T in the Sonata N-Line/K5 GT iyo? Is the 8spd DCT tuned differently on the N-Line cars? Outstanding review. Can't wait for the Elantra N.
@theredline3 жыл бұрын
You can’t really compare the Veloster N to the Sonata N-line. It’s so much louder and more visceral in the Veloster and has a MUCH louder exhaust note. The Sonata N-Line is way more refined but still quick, a smidge slower than this car due to the weight. We did notice the shifts feels slightly quicker in the Veloster but it also could feel that way from the louder exhaust. The Sonata will make a much better daily driver, but it also will feel a lot more isolated and much heavier on the road.
@wbwayne88873 жыл бұрын
@@theredline I definitely understand that, but was asking more in terms of powerplant smoothness, flexibility, and acceleration range throughout the powerband. I didn't mean in terms of handling or comparing the totality of both vehicles.

Well done...I can see why this car has such a cult following. In my twenties...it might have been Civic Type R...but the understated styling (relatively speaking vs Civic TR), better sounds, warranty, make this more suitable for me now. Big fan of the Performance Blue (powder blue) color...hot hatch for sure

I would love a DCT to daily drive but the price point is a little high considering the interior quality you get with the Veloster. I am hoping the Elantra N and Kona N have a nicer interior with more features for the same price. I think this would be a winning formula in my eyes.
